Robert Winfree and Mark Radulich present their Mufasa The Lion King 2024 Movie Review!Mufasa: The Lion King is a 2024 American musical drama film directed by Barry Jenkins from a screenplay written by Jeff Nathanson. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, the film is photorealistically animated and serves as both a prequel and sequel to The Lion King (2019), the remake of the 1994 animated film of the same name. Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and John Kani reprise their roles from the remake; new cast members include Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, and Blue Ivy Carter in her feature film debut.Development on a prequel to The Lion King was confirmed in September 2020, with Jenkins attached to direct and Nathanson finishing a draft of the script. Pierre and Harrison were announced as the voice cast in August 2021, followed by further casting between September 2022 and April 2024. The film was officially announced when its official title was revealed in September 2022 at the 2022 D23 Expo announcement. Production on the film slowed down in July 2023 due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The film is dedicated to James Earl Jones, who voiced Mufasa in the 1994 film and the remake, died before the film's release, and whose voice is heard briefly during the opening titles.Mufasa: The Lion King premiered on December 9, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and was released in the United States by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on December 20, 2024. On this episode, Matt & Eric review Barry Jenkins' Mufasa: The Lion King starring Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Tiffany Boone, Donald Glover, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, Blue Ivy Carter, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.
For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Nadia Dalimonte, Josh Parham & Tom O'Brien to review and discuss the latest film from director Barry Jenkins, "Mufasa: The Lion King," starring Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Tiffany Boone, Donald Glover, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, Blue Ivy Carter & Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. We say it's the latest film from Barry Jenkins, but it doesn't look or feel like any of his previous works, as he decided to undertake the sequel to the poorly received but financially successful 2019 remake of "The Lion King." What did we think of Jenkins's direction? Was he able to elevate this material? How did we feel about the visuals, music, and voice performances? Tune in as we discuss these topics, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... The King has returned! Barry Jenkins' Lion King prequel - Mufasa: The Lion King - has released in theaters and I had the chance to check it out just recently. The Lion King is my favorite animated film of all-time but beyond further reflection and pondering, the remake was quite a big letdown that lacked much of the soul and creativity of that original animated film. That's why I was very skeptical about Barry Jenkins' prequel and I wanted nothing more than to be excited about more movies set in the continuity of The Lion King. Barry Jenkins' involvement certainly had my curiosity piqued though. Did the movie win me over, or is this yet another soulless live-action Disney film? Find out in this review! Mufasa: The Lion King: Directed by: Barry Jenkins Screenplay by: Jeff Nathanson Based off the characters created by: Linda Woolverton and Irene Mecchi and Jonathan Roberts Produced by: Mark Ceryak, Adele Romanski, Genevieve Hofmeyr Executive Producer: Peter Tobyansen Music by: Dave Metzger Cinematography by: James Laxton Editing by: Joi McMillon Casting by: Francine Maisler, Molly Rose Production Design by: Mark Friedberg Cast: Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé Synopsis: Told in flashbacks, Mufasa is an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. It Ends With Us is a solid movie. It has some absolutely wonderful line deliveries and performances along with pretty solid casting choices. You may have to sit through a bit of, what some would call, filler to get to the better stuff unfortunately. Welcome to your favorite movie podcast, Not a Bomb!! This is the podcast where we revisit some of the biggest box office failures in cinema history and explore whether they deserve a second chance. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we've received over the last 200 episodes and we look forward to many more. For this special occasion, we decided to discuss the seminal science fiction film, Blade Runner. Despite its status as a thought-provoking and visually stunning work of art, the initial release of the film was a commercial flop. We also talk about the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, which strikes a perfect balance between building on the legacy of the original and standing on its own as a great film. Unfortunately, the sequel also bombed and failed to make a profit for the studios. To delve into these two iconic science-fiction works, we welcomed a special guest, Cam, offering a Gen Z perspective. This episode wouldn't have been the same without Cam, and we're excited to have him share his insights on this captivating futuristic saga.Blade Runner is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh, Daryl Hannah, William Sanderson, Brion James and Joe Turkel.Blader Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Caral Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared LetoIf you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com or Contact Us - here.
