You're going to want to hear this. We're revealing all the secrets of Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day here on New Movie Monday! Griffey, Heath and Sam had a lot to say about this one and in full disclosure... it's not very good. What kept us from falling for this latest alien effort by the king of sci-fi himself? How about a significant lack of aliens for starters. Join the pile on as we point out all the plot holes, corny dialogue and plain bad storytelling in Disclosure Day. Logline: If you found out we weren't alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? Director: Steven Spielberg Starring: Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell
Steven Spielberg is officially back in the sci-fi sandbox with Disclosure Day, and you already know we had to break it all down. This week, we're diving deep into his 37th feature film to see if this original alien conspiracy thriller lives up to the massive legacy of Close Encounters and E.T.—or if it gets lost in its own sentimentality. We're talking about that stellar cast (Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth), the incredible car chases, that bizarre clicky alien language, and whether the movie's big message about humanity and empathy actually lands. Is this a certified summer blockbuster classic or is Spielberg just playing the hits? Tap in and find out!
Dave & Cody bring back Kiefer, a college debate coach and cinephile, to review Disclosure Day, the new original Spielberg alien movie. The vintage Spielberg machine is back together: John Williams on score, Janusz Kamiński shooting, David Koepp writing, Michael Kahn editing. Dave makes the case that the whole movie is tuned to a frequency Gen X kids hear and millennials might not. The table digs into Emily Blunt's career-best performance, a possibly divisive ending, the government-competence logic gaps, and whether two and a half hours earns a do-it-yourself conclusion. The Pastor's Corner lands on empathy as survival. Plus the Sandlot reunion series and a round of the Movie Game.SPOILER WARNING: Full spoilers for Disclosure Day after the news segment.Movie reviewed: Disclosure Day (2026) — Directed by Steven Spielberg, written by David Koepp. Starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, with a score by John Williams. In theaters now.

For this week's main podcast review, Cody Dericks, Nadia Dalimonte, Dan Bayer, Giovanni Lago, and Brendan Hodges join me to review and discuss the latest film from the legendary Stephen Spielberg, "Disclosure Day," starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo & Wyatt Russell. Returning to live-action science fiction for the first time in over twenty years, Spielberg is no longer asking whether or not aliens exist, but rather how the world would react if they did. The result is a thrilling, emotional, and intellectually rich blockbuster, a rarity in today's cinematic landscape. Is it a reminder of what a great storyteller Spielberg is, or is it a well-intentioned misfire from a master filmmaker? Please tune in to find out as we discuss the screenplay, its themes, the performances, the craftsmanship, including John Williams's score, the visual effects and sound work, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. His camera work with always be unmatched. And when he has a clear cut, cohesive and coherent story to tell, he knocks it out of the park every time. Josh O'Conner and Emily Blunt are incredible. Colman Domingo and Colin Firth are really great too. I can't really even find anything wrong in the script. It doesn't drag, and sure there may be some points in the film where I asked myself where this was all going, but I got answer to that question literally every single time I asked. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐#JustJuicinAround #StevenSpielberg #DisclosureDay #SummerMovie

We can't wait to see the iconic director return to the genre he defined, and to hear Mark's verdict. Should we believe the hype that it's his best film in decades? As well as Mark's review, we'll hear Simon's interview with two of its stars, Emily Blunt and Colman Domingo. They talk Spielbergian on-set insights, space aliens, and, erm… Percy Pigs. Luke returns to join Matt and Dawn to review four new shows available on various platforms this week. Firstly, Russell T Davies is back with an original drama about modern society called Tip Toe. The series features career-best performances from Alan Cumming and David Morrissey as two men on a dangerous collision course. It's a show with a lot to say about the state of the world today and the dangers of living your life as someone viewed as 'other'. It's such a strong series and the sort of drama Channel 4 should be making, but it does some things that the team often dislikes. Next, a favourite from last year, The Four Seasons, returns for a second season on Netflix. The warm friendship comedy drama, starring Tina Fey, Will Forte and Colman Domingo, follows three sets of couples who holiday together four times a year. Everything we loved about the first season still works and it's just lovely to have a show like this which is warm, engaging, funny and low stakes as this in a television landscape which is still obsessed with thrillers. Next, Australian comic Sam Campbell, who rose to fame through panel show performances and an incredible appearence on Last One Laughing on Prime Video, now has his own comedy series, Make That Movie. The series, which follows Campbell's character, a respected film director and his team as they attempt to make the movie of regular people's ideas. If you are aware of Campbell's comedic style, the series is really surreal and silly, but funny and feels very different to the rest of Channel 4's comedy slate. Lastly, Hacks, a show we've loved since it began, comes to an end. We do a deep dive into the final episode and what made the show work so well. For our Quiz, Luke tests Matt and Dawn to name as many actors as they can from the Russell T Davies shows.

Netflix's charming comedy The Four Seasons follows a group of couples whose friendship dynamic is rocked by their mid-life crises. The impressive cast includes Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Colman Domingo, and Will Forte. And while the jokes may not fly quite as fast as they did on 30 Rock, Fey's comedic sensibilities are written all over it. The Four Seasons just returned for a second season, so we're revisiting our conversation about the series.Subscribe to Pop Culture Happy Hour Plus at plus.npr.org/happyhour See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy
Send us Fan MailOn this 118th episode of the Triple FFF we're going to ease on down the road into my least favorite genre, the musical biopic as we discuss Antoine Fuqua's 2006 tribute to the late great King of Pop, Michael Jackson, cleverly entitled Michael. The film stars Jaafar Jackson — Michael's nephew and the son of Jermaine Jackson — alongside Juliano Krue Valdi as the adult and child versions of Michael respectively, with Colman Domingo and Nia Long as Joe and Katherine Jackson, plus Laura Harrier, Larenz Tate, Miles Teller, and Mike Myers as the various lawyers, executives, and handlers orbiting the Jackson machine. While a host of no-names inhabit the roles of the Jackson 5 and other random family members who agreed to lend their names or participate in this film. Joining me this week, to strut his stuff and discuss the finer points of this box office sensation is my good friend, renowned hoofer and MJ mega fan, himself, Dr. David Johnson Before the lights, fancy footwork and hair sizzling pyrotechnics: the synopsis: Michael catalogs the King of Pop's humble beginnings in Gary, Indiana to success with his brothers in The Jackson 5 to his ultimate rise to global superstardom, ever so briefly highlighting the clashes with his domineering abusive father Joe and record company prejudices while also showcasing quiet moments watching old movies and eating ice cream with his mother or playing Twister with his pet monkey Bubbles. Does this film have what it takes to earn its sequined socks and glove? Find out! Watch the video podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/3559W7PH8bg
From giant pink bows to dramatic Valentino capes, the Cannes red carpet delivered plenty of standout style moments this year. Demi Moore dominated the Croisette with elegant jury looks, while Bella Hadid paid tribute to Jane Birkin in a vintage-inspired Schiaparelli gown. For the men, Colman Domingo stole the spotlight in a theatrical purple Valentino cape ensemble.
If you weren't alive to know, or old enough to comprehend, how massively popular Michael Jackson was in the 80s, just picture the biggest music star today and times it by five, at least. This week's movie, “Michael”, tries to give you an idea about how big he was, but you really had to be there to know. This movie shines a bright light on the turbulent childhood the Jackson boys, particularly Michael, went through at the hands of their self-absorbed, tyrannical father, Joe Jackson. Joe created the Jackson 5, with Michael as the lead singer, and got them into the sights of Motown. That primarily got Michael made as the next megastar by Berry Gordy at Motown and Quincy Jones. Still in the background was Michael's familial struggle with his father trying to rule his life with an iron fist and knowing his grip is slipping. Michael fights to be his own man and achieve his own dreams all while being the biggest music star of all time. Is it worth going to see this biopic at the theater? Check out Movies Merica to find out! “Michael” stars Jaafar Jackson, Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Juliano Valdi, Liv Symone, Laura Harrier, Larenz Tate, John Rabe, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Kendrick Sampson, Michael Andrew Baker and Zach Kenney. On this episode of Black and Snerdy, Ode (@thatsod.e / @thatsod_e) and Mo "Kid" Licorish (@licorishislegit) celebrate Mother's Day with an all-new segment called "This or That: Mother's Day Edition," ranking and debating the greatest Black mothers in pop culture history. They kick things off with a spirited Claire Huxtable vs. Aunt Viv showdown — weighing Phylicia Rashad's groundbreaking prototype against Janet Hubert's cultural backbone — then move to Florida Evans vs. Rochelle Rock, breaking down Esther Rolle's improvised "damn, damn, damn" moment and Tichina Arnold's no-nonsense energy on Everybody Hates Chris. The matchups keep coming as they pit Cookie Lyon against Tasha St. Patrick, with Taraji P. Henson's scenery-chewing Empire reign earning unanimous love, and then tackle a real-life triple threat of Tina Knowles, Donda West, and Afeni Shakur, debating whose motherhood legacy — living or lost — left the deepest imprint on Black culture. The bonus mom round brings Sheryl Lee Ralph's Dee Mitchell from Moesha against Kellita Smith's Wanda from The Bernie Mac Show, sparking a heartfelt conversation about stepparenting and chosen family. Rapid-fire picks fly as they crown favorites between Dr. Lucy Carmichael and Dr. Trudy Proud, Queen Ramonda and Queen Aoleon, Bo Johnson and Miranda Bailey, Lisa Landry and Jay Kyle, and Sugar Mama and Madea — with Angela Bassett Oscar snub discourse, Tracee Ellis Ross appreciation, and a passionate takedown of Tyler Perry's portrayal of Black women all packed in. Before and after the matchups, they also roast Wicked for Good's questionable sequel choices, Michelle Yeoh's singing debut, and Colman Domingo's blink-and-you-miss-it Cowardly Lion, then close out with their Big Mad and Big Happy segments rounding out a stacked Mother's Day celebration.

Colman Domingo's star has seen a meteoric rise the past decade. But the West Philadelphia native and Academy Award-nominated actor hasn't forgotten the importance of his formative years, including the time he spent at Temple University. Can you feel it? Summer movie season is rumbling down the tracks. And this week BFG Podcast host Neal Pollack puts his ear to the ground for the last major releases before the real blockbusters start.First up is Michael, the bizarrely popular Michael Jackson biopic that has the world forgetting how weird and sinister late-era Michael Jackson really was. This is a hero's origin story, from the beginnings of the Jackson 5 up until the near-tragedy of the "Victory" tour. Contributor Gillian Gaar joins Neal in breaking down why she thinks this movie is a flat highlight reel that doesn't really work, and compares it to other recent popular music biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Back in Black. Neal agrees with her mostly but really liked Colman Domingo as Michael's Machiavellian father, and has to admit the music scenes are pretty good.Stephen Garrett makes his regular stop to talk about The Devil Wears Prada 2, the sequel to a popular movie from the fashion industry from 20 years ago. Our critics agree that this sequel seems flat and unnecessary and they get very bitchy talking about music and fashion, which is appropriate. Neal did like Justin Theroux as a Jeff Bezos-style billionaire magnate weirdo, and Emily Blunt is also pretty funny in the sequel. But most of the goings-on are pretty annoying.Neal and Stephen clash on The Christophers, a Steven Soderbergh indie joint about the London art world. Soderbergh, who is 63, claimed to have retired 13 years ago, Ian McKellen is 87 at the end of this month and is not retiring any time soon. They agree that McKellen is wonderful as the lead, a dying 80-something former "Bad Boy" painter, and Neal tries unsuccessfully to persuade Stephen that Michaela Cole is NOT a film actress. They agree to disagree, as they always do.
In Part 2 of “Three Dads,” we go deep—and we mean emotional, raw, and wildly eye-opening with Moke Coffey, Mark Ebinger and Tom Friedman. We dive straight into the complexities of modern family dynamics, identity, and love, unpacking what it really means to co-parent in a nontraditional household. From therapy revelations to navigating boundaries with exes, we get brutally honest about the emotional weight behind wearing a wedding ring post-divorce—and whether it's about love, identity, or holding onto something deeper. We challenge everything—from relationship expectations to what it means to move forward—and yes, we don't hold back. Things get spicy when we question dating with a ring still on, and even spicier when we share our own jaw-dropping personal story involving an ex (yes… being run over. Then the conversation turns beautiful as we talk about expanding their family—with a new baby possibly on the way—and what it means to raise kids in a three-dad household filled with love, chaos, and evolution. We get emotional talking about legacy, parenting, and the power of choosing your family.

The crew provide a deep-dive review of the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. The team explores whether this big-budget production successfully captures the King of Pop's legacy or if it remains in the shadow of the 1992 miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream. The discussion covers everything from Jafar Jackson's uncanny performance to the casting choices for Joe Jackson, including a candid critique of the film's prosthetic work. Beyond the technicalities of the film, they analyze the historical accuracies of the timeline, the notable absence of siblings like Janet and Randy, and the missed opportunities to showcase the creative genius behind Off the Wall and Thriller. The conversation also touches on music history milestones, such as the true story of the first Black artist on MTV and the impact of the Pepsi commercial era. Finally, the episode addresses the heated debate surrounding the 90s R&B bracket as the hosts respond to listener voicemails questioning if New Edition really deserved to win over heavyweights like Jodeci and Boyz II Men. 0:00 – Weathering the Storm: A St. Louis Welcome 1:20 – Michael vs. The American Dream: Why the "Bible" Still Wins 4:01 – Missed Opportunities: The Making of Thriller and Off the Wall 7:28 – Casting Critique: Jafar Jackson vs. Colman Domingo's Nose 9:50 – Family Politics: The Missing Jacksons and Jermaine's Influence 15:25 – Motown Truths: Gladys Knight vs. Diana Ross 20:55 – MTV History: The First Black Artist Reveal 23:02 – The Pepsi Commercial and CGI Bubbles 32:16 – "Scraping the Bone": Have We Learned Everything About MJ? 49:09 – The Transformation: From Thriller to Bad 1:04:55 – Final Ratings: Was It Just a Love Letter for the 2000s Kids? 1:12:57 – Listener Voicemail: The Great 90s R&B Group Bracket Debate BRAND New Voicemail 314-649-3113 Join the I Only Listen to 90s Music Facebook Group http://bit.ly/3k0UEDe Follow I Only Listen to 90s Music on IG https://bit.ly/3sbCphv Follow SOLC Network online Instagram: https://bit.ly/39VL542 Twitter: https://bit.ly/39aL395 Facebook: https://bit.ly/3sQn7je To Listen to the podcast Podbean https://bit.ly/3t7SDJH YouTube http://bit.ly/3ouZqJU Spotify http://spoti.fi/3pwZZnJ Apple http://apple.co/39rwjD1 IHeartRadio http://ihr.fm/2L0A2y
The crew is back for episode 390-something, and the conversations are heavier than ever! We kick things off with some lighthearted banter about the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, giving massive props to Colman Domingo's portrayal of Joe Jackson, and debate which legendary musicians deserve the next big movie treatment (shoutout to Prince and Marvin Gaye). Things heat up when we dive into the rumor mill: Was the relationship between Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson real, or was it a perfectly timed PR stunt designed to shift the public narrative away from the Tory Lanez trial? We break down how industry contracts work and why public breakups are always messy. We also tackle a massive elephant in the room. The crew debates the intense backlash surrounding a recent sit-down interview with an alleged domestic abuser. It sparks a deeply serious and passionate conversation about media responsibility, the realities of domestic violence, cancel culture, and whether society should ever offer a platform for rehabilitation and redemption. Plus, we wrap up with some sports talk, celebrating LeBron and Bronny James sharing the NBA floor, while questioning Kevin Durant's ability to lead a franchise.
