In this episode of the Immigration Conversation, Fragomen professionals Kenneth Lau, Adrian Goh, Jonathan Ying and Jeremy Chua discuss the challenges faced by Japan in relation to COVID-19 related restrictions that have exponentially increased while Japan has been in the international spotlight as the host of this year's Olympic games. As this year's Olympic games approach, we discuss how Japan has had to adapt during the pandemic in terms of the government's current immigration policies.
Today we discuss Bargain Quest designed by Jonathan Ying and published by Renegade Games with Jeremy Howard from Man Vs. Meeple. In the game players will take the role of shopkeepers in an adventuring town plagued by monsters. Players must draft items and then secretly choose which items to place in their windows to attract wealthy heroes to their shops. Once all heroes have been equipped, they venture out to battle against monstrous threats, earning money and prestige for the shop they represent. Throughout the game players will encounter new heroes and monsters while upgrading their shops and hiring employees. Once the third monster is defeated the player who has earned the most gold and prestige is the winner. (Description provided by the publisher.)Learn more about Man Vs. It’s a Ranger Danger Power Morphicon special! Live from the show floor, Michael interviews Jonathan Ying, the designer of ‘Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid’, the fantastic new board game currently being funded on Kickstarter! We played the game and absolutely loved it, so Michael asked Jonathan about the game, how they chose characters, and what’s in store for the future! Get hyped for the game (and then go back the Kickstarter!) after listening to this Ranger Danger PMC special!
You can have too much of a good thing, which is why Mark always tries to interrupt Walker before he can finish a single sentence. Of course, "too much" is a highly subjective idea, whether applied to game length or pie. This week Keyflower is discussed, which is not too long but can feel too short--except if it were not too short it would be too long. Clear enough. Famed game designer Jonathan Ying is known for turning big media properties into table top sensations. Star Wars, Doom, and Game of Thrones are just a few of the titles he helped adapt while at Fantasy Flight Games. Jon recently went freelance and his first game, Bargain Quest, is already a hit. He's joined us this week to talk design, adaptation, and rain dispersal systems. Pickup a copy of Jon's newest game, Bargain Quest! http://www.bargainquestgame.com/
Mark and Walker engage the ALL CAPS in a very HARDCORE WAY. Or something. All in all, they're very civil, even while disagreeing about Sidereal Confluence and being mystified by people's strong reactions to HATE. Rage gets all the love, but HATE gets all the confusion. Games Played Last Week:-Sakura Arms (BakaFire, AEG, 2017)-Assault on Doomrock (Tom Stasiak, Beautiful Disaster Games, 2014)-Charterstone (Jamey Stegmaier, Stonemaier Games, 2017)-Blood Rage (Eric Lang, CMON Games, 2015)-Star Wars: Imperial Assault (Justin Kemppainen, Corey Konieczka, & Jonathan Ying, FFG, 2014)

We're doing something a little different this month! Instead of tackling a topic ourselves, we've invited ten of our favorite designers onto the podcast to share their personal game design processes and philosophies. Whether you're interested in mobile games, VR, tabletop games, narrative design, escape rooms, or just listening to talented people share their secrets, you're not going to want to miss this one! Special thanks to Alexei Othenin-Girard, Jacob Burgess, Jonathan Ying, Kyle Pulver, Laura E Hall, Llaura Ash McGee, Owen Harris, Pat Kemp, Sig Gunnarson, and Teale Fristoe for taking the time to share their processes, and to John Smith, Ryan Ike, and Joshua Du Chene for providing the music on this episode.
Why risk your neck going on adventures when you can make a fortune from the safety of your own home, selling adventuring equipment to the foolish heroes that visit your shop? In the bicentennial episode 50, we chat with Jonathan Ying, famed co-designer of Star Wars: Imperial Assault and DOOM The Board Game (among others),Read more →
Paul, Matt and guest star Jonathan Ying discuss the hottest new board games! And by "hottest" we mean "weirdest" (and by "new" we mean "old"). But trust us. It's a good time. Dancing Eggs has to be seen to be believed.
