This week we are talking about making your table more accessible for players with disabilities. As a disclaimer, none of us are disabled, so we have no real knowledge of what it is like. What we do know is, D&D is a game for EVERYONE, and we as a community should see that EVERYONE is able to enjoy the game. This is the talking point for the episode. START WITH A SESSION 0 AND DISCUSS THE GAME, CHARACTER CONCEPTS, AND WHAT IS AND IS NOT COMFORTABLE FOR THE PLAYERS. IF VOICING SUCH THINGS IN FRONT OF OTHERS IS UNCOMFORTABLE FOR SOMEONE, HAVE A ONE-ON-ONE MEETING WITH THE PLAYER TO DISCUSS THEIR NEEDS. HOW DO YOU REPRESENT DISABILITY IN YOUR GAME, AND HOW DO YOU DO IT TASTEFULLY? HOW DO YOU MANAGE DISABLED CHARACTERS AT THE GAMING TABLE? HOW DO YOU MANAGE DISABLED PLAYERS AT THE GAMING TABLE? Based on a true story, The Exorcism of Emily Rose opens on a desolate landscape, a weathered farmhouse the only dwelling in sight. One thing we learn right away: Emily Rose, a girl of 19, is dead, and her condition shakes the medical examiner who comes to visit. Emily, we discover, has died as the result of demonic possession… or six demonic possessions… or maybe none. Erin Bruner, a top-notch defense attorney, is assigned to defend the priest who exorcised Emily, Father Richard Moore, who stands accused of having cut off the girl from medical treatments she was undergoing. Father Moore is offered a plea deal, but rejects it, as he feels Emily's story must be told. Hoping to make partner at her law firm, Erin is determined to follow her instincts, but between Father Moore's compelling testimony and some very strange happenings in her own life, Erin starts to wonder if perhaps, against all odds, possession is real, and can be proven in a court of law. Yesterday, Rach and I talked a bit about consent at the gaming table. The conversation that has popped up about that cast has been amazing, both on YouTube and on Facebook, and thanks to that ongoing conversation, I think I missed something yesterday. Communication at the gaming table has to occur before consent can even be an issue, and part of that communication is being honest with your GM before the session even starts. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tavernchat/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tavernchat/support

Another twofer ;) Paizo has launched their SECOND Pathfinder 2 Humble Bundle in the 21 months since Pathfinder 2 released in the summer of 2019. Two Humble Bundles of new material for a new RPG system are the signs of failure, not just of market share, but of management. Paizo had its birth by being formed to directly support the 3x edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Will its only way to save itself be to support D&D 5e? I never used to allow alcohol at the game table. Technology has greatly advanced since the introduction of RPGs in the mid 1970s. Saul and Jolene discuss the pros and cons of having today's tech at the gaming table. For the most part the discussion is positive about technology at the table. From laptops, cell phones, tablets and HD TVs technology at the game table can really help in running an RPG. Things such as PDFs of the rules, music and sound effects, pictures and movie clips can really spice up your experience at the RPG table. But of course technology can also be a problem. As always thank you all for listening and all we ask is that you share our podcast on your favorite social media. Music by Stock XL, song Technology Background Available at Tribeofnoise.com

Saul and Jolene discuss Women at the Gaming Table. Here Saul relates how growing up there were no girls or women at his gaming table. Even when Saul went to his first gaming convention women were very few. It was not until the 1995 that he was in a gaming group that had not one but two women. Jolene starting gaming because of her younger brother. But then they moved to a new town of Chico California and the guys that her brother started playing with were a bit "intimidated" by Jolene's presence. Still Jolene has been attending game conventions since 2000 and describes her experience going to local conventions. Even with more women at conventions and playing games, too many times we read and hear stories about women having bad experiences at gaming tables. Saul and Jolene talk about why this might happen and how they feel things will change for women and all people who start playing rpg games. Sorry no intro music in this episode.

Zach Lorton of Back Burner Games joins us this episode to talk about playing music at the gaming table! Zach's a DJ, game designer, and friend of the show, so he's basically the perfect person to talk to about playing music and sound effects as part of the tabletop gaming experience. He's also got a lot to say, as you'll hear in this episode! Before that, though, we let Zach talk about Back Burner Games (Patreon, Instagram, Facebook) and very briefly talk about what we're playing and what's going on behind the scenes at STG. After that, pastor and Patreon supporter Douglas Underhill gives us a somewhat controversial question to tackle, asking what our second choice of religion or life philosophy would be if somehow Christianity were off the table. Then we're into our Scripture readings for this episode and diving right into the main topic! We cover Jenny's musical talents and everyone else's lack thereof; background music; sound effects and ambient music; foreground music (including a story Grant's been wanting to tell for ages); how to use all of these at the table; and where to get music or sound effects. Mentioned in this episode: Ribbon Drive RPG; the Pieces board game café in St. Louis, MO; myNoise; Tabletop Audio; MeloDice; and OverClocked ReMix. Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:17-23. Psalm 96:1-2, Proverbs 25:20, 1 Corinthians 14:15-19

The Gaming Table Edition 4—Chip, Check and Token Collectors' guide for Worldwide Gaming Establishments is now available for immediate shipping, or ordering for collection at the Superbowl Chip Show in Las Vegas. The Gaming Table is the leading source of identification for all known gaming establishments worldwide, past & present, licensed and unlicensed. The publication comprises an alphabetized listing of establishments and identified chips (where the markings on those chips do not otherwise identify their origin). The availability of manufacturer's records not previously in our possession means there is much new information in the latest edition of this constant work in progress. The new edition has a whole new columnar format, similar to The Chip Rack, making it easier to read whilst continuing to provide all the additional data within the same single volume. Approx 800 existing listings have been consolidated, and a further 7,400 edits and new entries have been made so that this edition now contains some 31,400 records. The 4th edition of The Gaming Table was published in January 2012. The Chip Rack Edition 13—A Price Guide to the Casino Chips and Checks of Nevada is now available for immediate shipping. The Chip Rack is the leading source of information for collectors of Nevada casino chips. With its all new design, the 432 page book now has detailed descriptions of 32,000 chips; house, roulette, baccarat, poker, commemorative and limited edition, making it the most comprehensive guide book available. Over 900 Nevada casinos are listed. Only 500 copies of edition 13 have being produced. Since the publication of edition 12 in 2010, the editors have added approximately 2,000 new chip records to The Chip Rack, and have revised a further 2,000 existing entries in addition to price changes. We have once again maintained a single volume issue, with no change in price.
