Send us Fan MailWhy do parents feel so relieved when their child gets a diagnosis? And when can that same label do more harm than good?In this episode of Your Child Is Normal, Dr. Jessica Hochman speaks with pediatrician Dr. William Wilkoff, who has spent decades caring for children in Maine and writing for both parents and physicians. Dr. Wilkoff introduces a powerful idea he calls the “Rumpelstiltskin effect”—the relief that comes from simply naming a condition. But as he explains, that relief can come with trade-offs.Together, they discuss: Why diagnoses can reduce anxiety for families The risks of overdiagnosis—and getting it wrong How labels can shape a child's identity The rise in ADHD and autism diagnoses Why modern parenting feels more anxious than ever And why something as simple as sleep may be one of the most powerful tools we have This is a thoughtful, nuanced conversation about how to support kids—without letting a diagnosis define them.Dr. William Wilkoff is a pediatrician who practiced for decades in Maine, caring for children in a rural and suburban community since the 1970s. Over the course of his career, Dr. Wilkoff is also the author of several parenting books, including How to Say No to Your Toddler, The Maternity Leave Breastfeeding Plan, and a guide on managing picky eating, all aimed at helping families navigate everyday challenges with more confidence. What happens when your paragliding wing folds in half 165 feet in the air, sending you on an 11-story plunge directly onto your ass? (Spoiler: You wake up and start a career in musical theater.) Most people's worst nightmare involves falling out of the sky. For CJ, that nightmare became a violent reality. On a "big air" day in Pemberton, BC, CJ's paragliding shute collapsed, and he fell 165 feet shattering nearly his entire lower spine, blowing out his sternum, and becoming a walking paraplegic. In this raw and hilarious conversation, CJ breaks down the "snowflake" of unique injuries that come with spinal cord damage. From the itchy feet you can't reach to the Costco-sized quantities of lube and the absolute horror of a Senna overdose. But CJ didn't grieve the "old CJ." Instead, he leaned into the discomfort, started saying "yes" to everything, and pivoted from managing risk to playing Rumpelstiltskin. In this episode of Rewind, we return to the enchanted, mysterious, and emotionally rich world of Once Upon a Time—the series that reimagined fairy tales for a modern audience while grounding them in the very human struggles of identity, destiny, and redemption. Set in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine, the show begins with a startling revelation: the residents are actually fairy‑tale characters ripped from their magical realms and cursed to live ordinary lives with no memory of who they once were. Through its signature dual‑timeline storytelling, the series explored the hidden pasts of beloved characters—from Snow White to Rumpelstiltskin—and the ways their fairy‑tale histories shaped their present‑day lives. This episode features conversations with Jennifer Morrison, who brought emotional depth and grit to Emma Swan, and showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the creative minds who fused Disney's iconic storybook legacy with bold, serialized fantasy drama. Welcome to The Rizzuto Show — the funny podcast that proves trivia is less about knowing answers and more about how loudly you can defend the wrong ones.On this episode, the crew dives headfirst into another round of trivia Matchup, a game designed to test knowledge, memory, logic, and emotional stability… and somehow only one of those things shows up. Moon, Learn, Rafe, and King Scott take turns absolutely torching their own credibility while attempting to answer questions that sound easy until your brain fully abandons you under pressure. We kick things off with Moon vs. Learn, a showdown that immediately spirals thanks to Barbie lore, calories, immortal honey, and the eternal question: what actually is a group of flamingos called? (Spoiler: nobody feels confident, but Moon feels confident anyway.) Marco Polo's nationality becomes a full vibe-based argument, Friends episode counts get wildly inflated, and logic is applied in ways science has specifically asked us not to.Then it's Rafe vs. King Scott, and this is where things truly get unhinged. Zodiac signs become public enemies, water signs are debated like conspiracy theories, and Rumpelstiltskin's straw-to-gold origin story is somehow made harder than it's been for centuries. Insulin, Yellowstone Lake, Johnny Carson, and the circumference of the Earth all take collateral damage as the crew confidently locks in answers that history itself disagrees with. What makes this episode special isn't who wins — it's how everyone loses just a little bit. The trash talk is elite, the confidence is unearned, and the logic is aggressively creative. This is The Rizzuto Show in peak form: loud, sarcastic, self-aware, and completely unbothered by being wrong as long as it's entertaining. If you love daily chaos, dumb confidence, and the sound of your own brain yelling “HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THIS?” at your speakers, this funny podcast is exactly what you signed up forFollow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshowConnect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MOSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
I had interviewed Mark Jones on June 15, 2020. During the pandemic, nearly every filmmaker I reached out to was eager to talk and loved the idea of the podcast. Mark Jones was one of my first interviews and after sending him an e-mail, he agreed to come on the pod. Although he was well known in the cult world, few really knew how much of a genius he was or know of his cultural impact. At the time of the interview, there was no talk of a “Leprechaun” 4K release, or a blu-ray stacked with special features and Jones explained to me that he had piles of unreleased footage, bloopers screen tests and more! All that was needed was demand from the fans and encouragement from podcasters. Jones was one of my favorite interviews and I re-released the episode every year around St. Patrick's Day for everyone to pair with “Leprechaun.” Unlike previous releases, this one will be unedited so everyone can enjoy it in its entirety. After the episode aired, he wrote to me saying he loved it and encouraged me to keep interviewing and follow my passion. Rest In Peace , Mark. Your work was loved by generations and influenced many horror movie fans. If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. This is a selection of the fairy tales (in English) written by Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm and Wilhelm Karl Grimm in the early 19th Century. These stories are fantastical and although aimed squarely at the flexible mind of a child which can assimilate much stranger concepts than an adult they are quite dark and occasionally brutal. The stakes can be quite high as in Rumpelstiltskin where a terrible bargain is made without due regard to possible future consequences and Tom Thumb who seems forever about to be imprisoned or sliced in two. These are moral tales and this selection features some of the less 'grim' of those tales but they are still a 1000 times more exciting and vivid than many more modern fairy tales. The Gutenberg edition from which most of these stories were read contains some delightful pictures to accompany the stories. The pictures can be viewed here. The exception to this is the story, Puss in Boots which is from an Andrew Lang collection which can be found here. Our eighth episode of Lang Fairy Tale tellings is a two-for-one, including both Little Red Riding Hood (which is so short) and Rumpelstiltskin - both tales about freaky masculinity and the dangers of being a lone female. If you are unfamiliar with the Lang Fairy Tales, these seminal collections were assembled between 1889 and 1913 by a married couple, folklorists and translators Nora and Andrew Lang, with most of the work done to compile them completed by Nora, also known as Leonora Blanche Alleyne.Assembled and published in 12 colour-coded "Fairy Books," the corpus the Langs put together included 798 fairy tales from across cultures, many of which had never before been translated into English. They were amongst the most influential books of their time, changing the course of children's literature - although they're hardly just for children, and often deal with quite challenging concepts.Today, purchasing a complete set of the Lang Fairy Books in good condition costs over £4,000 ($5,000+).Thankfully, the collections are all out of copyright, meaning that we can now tell these stories, in podcast form, many for the first time, and share them with a global audience, for free. Our plan is to release the stories between main series of Three Ravens, performing them straight (though with plenty of silly voices) letting the tales speak for themselves in all their madcap, sharp-edged, often quite bizarre glory. The only edits we have made are to amend some culturally-insensitive epithets, which typically pertain to ethnicity, with any such edits made by Eleanor Conlon.Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Many years ago, on this very podcast, a harrowing wager was made. A dangerous gamble, a roll of the dice. Would a certain character live to see the credits of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning? Or would they, like so many before them, lose their life in the service of the greater good? The consequences for losing this bet were nebulous, an inky as-yet-to-be-defined possibility. As the final Final Reckoning reckoning drew ever closer the role of defining them fell to Carter. And he threw everything he had at this. Including the kitchen sink. Recorded for release W/C 12th May 2025 This week Suzi Quatro chats about her latest Novel 'Grave Undertakings', we find out about a Thriller Double Bill at the Blue Orange Theatre, Director Andy Edwards lets us know about the release of Rumpelstiltskin and we have music from Malissa Whitehouse and Benham/McNerney.
In the latest episode of the podcast that wields films like deadly weapons, Mike drags Jay kicking and screaming into the twisted world of Rumpelstiltskin (1995)—a movie that asks the bold question, “What if a goblin got loose in 1990s Los Angeles and immediately learned to drive stick shift?” Between the boundlessly illogical plotting, endless baby screaming, and an ancient curse powered by hammy one-liners, the guys do their best to articulate a cinematic experience that feels less like a fairy tale and more like a cousin to Tommy Wiseau's The Room. After that, Jay and Mike count down their Bottom Five Names—a celebration of the worst, weirdest, and most aggressively stupid character names ever committed to film. Finally, in a heartfelt tribute, they honor the late, great Val Kilmer by playing a special round of Kick Two, Pick Two—pitting four of Kilmer's movies against each other, with only two allowed to survive. So grab your favorite screaming infant, fire up your motorcycle, and join the fairy tale that somehow no one wanted—but everyone deserves to hear about!
Well, Rotters... the time has come. For the FINAL episode of Brain Rot, I'm joined by the one and only Mates of Hell (Alex Ayling and Brad Hanson) to discuss 1995's RUMPELSTILTSKIN Toodles xx ————

It's coming up on the end of Season 6, and that means we're talking about one of Sarah's books! We're finishing up (or beginning?) the Bareknuckle Bastards series today with a deep dive of Sarah's Wicked and the Wallflower, the first in her Bareknuckle Bastards series--part Rumplestiltskin retelling, part Peaky Blinders fic, all justifiable face punching and ode to the darkness. This is the series she loves the best, and Jen just might agree. You can get Wicked and the Wallflower in print, ebook and audiobook at: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Kobo, or wherever you get your books. It's also currently free with your monthly subscription to Kindle Unlimited. The BooksWicked and the Wallflower by Sarah MacLeanBrazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLeanDaring and the Duke by Sarah MacLeanThe Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLeanThe NotesWicked and the Wallflower was so early in the life of the podcast that we didn't do a deep dive, so here you go! You can follow up by listening to deep dives of Brazen and the Beast and Daring and the Duke, both available wherever you get your books, and free with your monthly subscription to Kindle Unlimited.Last week, Sarah and Jen were at Steamy Lit Con in Anaheim. There was a terrific panel on the 30th anniversary of the publication of Beverly Jenkins's Night Song. Artist Shannon Donahue made a very cool sketch of the panel, which along with Beverly Jenkins included Jeanne Lin, Adriana Herrera, Diana Quincy, and Alyssa Cole. Some of the influences on Wicked and the Wallflower include the fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin, Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders, the 99% Invisible podcast about Perfect Security, the Disney movie Frozen, and Gavin Weightman's The Frozen Water Trade. Jeremy Pryor is joined by his children Jackson, Sydney, and Elisa to talk about debt, and how young people today are getting so easily sucked into making horrible financial decisions that often lead to LITERALLY giving up their first born child as payment. They do all this by dissecting the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin, which is absolutely packed with symbolism that we can use to glean wisdom from for today. Learn the sad reality of why most young people get into debt, the various forces out there looking to "get" us (and our future earning years...and even our sense of meaning), and what we can do about it. On this episode, we talk about: 1:56 How to get the most out of fairy tales (and why they're not irrelevant today) 5:34 The story of Rumpelstiltskin 6:48 The point of the story...how and why debt starts 17:00 The vulnerability of young people entering into adulthood 20:06 The most brilliant symbol in the story...what happens when you run out of things to give? 33:31 The happy ending that requires you knowing the name 42:57 The gratitude your children will have if you train them and teach them about the traps of the world Follow Family Teams: Facebook: https://facebook.com/famteams Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/familyteams Website: https://www.familyteams.com Resources Mentioned: Family Revision by Jeremy Pryor --- Hi, welcome to the Family Teams podcast!
