Are you enjoying this? Are you not? Tell us what to do more of, and what you'd like to hear less of. The Reykjavík Grapevine's Iceland Roundup brings you the top news with a healthy dash of local views. In this episode, Grapevine publisher Jón Trausti Sigurðarson is joined by Heimildin editor Aðalsteinn Kjartansson, and Grapevine friend and contributor Sindri Eldon to roundup the stories making headlines in recent weeks. On the docket this week are: ✨We talk about a search for a lost person on Mt. Esja, a search which started on Monday, June 9th, and was still ongoing when this show aired.✨ We also discuss last weeks fatality at Brúará, a river mid way between the town of Laugarvatn and Geysir hot springs on the Gold Circle. ✨The city of Reykjavík has announced the return of the ferris wheel that sat on the city's harbour last summer to mixed reviews. We discuss those mixed reviews and debate the location of the wheel.. ✨ A law was passed last week forcing airlines flying to Iceland to hand their passenger lists over to the Icelandic authorities. Apparently this had an immediate effect as members of the well known crime syndicate (or biker gang) Banditos were turned away in Keflavík Airport over the weekend.✨The Grindavík SARS Þorbjörn announced they would be selling red caps with saying "Make Grindavík Great Again", then quickly thought better of it. We discuss the fact that at least Grindavík has built a wall, of sorts.✨Also, don't drink the water in the Blue LagoonAnd finally, here is a list to The Reykjavík Grapevine's summer playlist, as promised:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Z0aHSg3SmBYpNuCMCacdy?si=e198fc8ba73c427a------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SHOW SUPPORTSupport the Grapevine's reporting by becoming a member of our High Five Club: https://steadyhq.com/en/rvkgrapevine/You can also support the Grapevine by shopping in our online store: https://shop.grapevine.is------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is a Reykjavík Grapevine podcast. The Reykjavík Grapevine is a free alternative magazine in English published 18 times per year, biweekly during the spring and summer, and monthly during the autumn and winter. Interview with Rana Vig, Director & CEO of Blue Lagoon ResourcesOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/blue-lagoon-resources-bllg-gold-producer-focused-on-being-explorer-1079Recording date: 5 May 2025Blue Lagoon Resources (CSE: BLLG, OTCQB: BLAGF) is set to commence gold production on July 9, 2025, marking the culmination of a five-year permitting process that CEO Rana Vig initially expected to take just 18 months. The company's high-grade British Columbia property near Smithers represents a significant milestone in today's challenging regulatory environment, where typical mining permits can extend to 20 years. The 22,000-hectare property contains 15 known high-grade veins averaging 9 grams per ton, with current measured and indicated resources of 218,000 ounces concentrated on a single vein. Management projects a clear path to over one million ounces based on extensive drilling programs totaling more than 50,000 meters. Recent drilling 150 meters below known resources has yielded intercepts exceeding 18 grams per ton across multiple hits, with increasing copper grades suggesting proximity to the mineralization source.Blue Lagoon's strategic approach emphasizes cash flow generation over traditional equity financing. "I could have raised more money for this company a couple of years ago, but everybody was depressed," Vig explained. "Why dilute at that level? I'd be at 700-800 million-900 million shares." Instead, management plans to use production cash flow as an "ATM" to fund exploration and expansion activities. The company has invested approximately $40 million in infrastructure and assembled an experienced operational team, including Cobra Mining contractors familiar with the historical Noranda operations at the same site. A validated toll processing partnership with Nicola Mining confirmed 90-95% recovery rates through previous test shipments.Cash flow generation is projected for fall 2025, with free cash flow expected by year-end. The timing coincides favorably with gold prices exceeding $3,300, well above the company's $2,600 base case assumptions. This positions Blue Lagoon uniquely among junior miners as it transitions from exploration to immediate revenue generation in a sector dominated by speculative plays.Learn more: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/blue-lagoon-resourcesSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

In this KE Report company introduction, we speak with Rana Vig, President and CEO of Blue Lagoon Resources (CSE:BLLG - OTCQB:BLAGF), a company on the verge of near-term gold production in British Columbia. With production expected to begin as early as July, the company is focused on generating cash flow through a toll milling agreement with Nicola Mining and using those proceeds to fund exploration across its land package. Key topics covered: Roadmap to production and the significance of the recently granted permit - one of only seven hard rock mining permits issued in B.C. in the past decade. Toll milling strategy to avoid heavy CapEx and environmental liability. Initial production forecast of 15,000 oz gold in year one, ramping up to 20,000 oz annually. The company's 218,000 oz M&I gold resource and why a PEA has been deferred until production cash flow validates the asset. Exploration potential from over 50,000m of recent drilling, new high-grade hits below the current resource, and several untested veins across a 22,000-hectare property. A look at the insider ownership and key strategic shareholders, including Crescat Capital and Nicola Mining. Visit the company website: https://bluelagoonresources.com/ Have questions? Solo Travel Adventures: Safe Travel for Women, Preparing for a Trip, Overcoming Fear, Travel Tips
The endless horizon stretches between volcanic plains and glacier-topped mountains as we journey through Iceland, a land where fire and ice create one of earth's most breathtaking natural canvases. What makes this Nordic island nation so remarkable isn't just its visual drama but how its landscapes become a powerful catalyst for personal healing and renewal. My solo adventure through Iceland revealed a country of startling contrasts - snow-capped peaks beside dramatic coastlines, black sand beaches against emerald farmland, geothermal springs bubbling near ancient lava fields. This environmental diversity creates an almost otherworldly experience, like visiting multiple countries without ever crossing a border. Each vista offers a different perspective, making Iceland an ideal destination for those seeking nature's transformative power.Traveling in April provided remarkable solitude, with empty roads and tourist-free vistas creating space for deeper reflection. While summer offers milder temperatures and lush landscapes, there's something magical about experiencing Iceland's raw beauty in relative isolation. My most unexpected gift came at midnight when the Northern Lights appeared outside my farmhouse window - a phenomenon locals assured me was extraordinarily rare for April. These serendipitous moments exemplify how travel delivers its most precious gifts when least expected.Iceland presents practical advantages for solo travelers: it ranks among the world's safest countries, offers stunning natural attractions from the Blue Lagoon to countless waterfalls, and provides varied accommodation options from hotels to guesthouses. While expenses run high, the payoff in natural wonder and personal growth proves immeasurable. My journey reinforced how intentional travel becomes a powerful vehicle for transformation. By setting clear objectives before departure - seeking restoration, reconnection with nature, and digital detachment - I created space for meaningful insights about incorporating elements of this experience into daily life back home. This process forms the foundation of healing through travel, a practice I now help others discover through my coaching program launching May 27th.Have you considered how a thoughtfully planned journey might address your own needs for renewal? Whether you're recovering from burnout, seeking clarity following life changes, or simply craving deeper connection with yourself and the natural world, Iceland's diverse landscapes offer the perfect backdrop for transformation. Join me in discovering how intentional travel can become your most powerful tool for personal growth.BOOK A CALL: JOIN THE WAITLISThttps://calendly.com/solotraveladventures/book-a-callInstagram @solotraveladventures50Facebook community: Solo Travel for Women Over 50 https://www.facebook.com/groups/860865768609200Send me a message or share your solo travel story with me.https://www.speakpipe.com/SoloTravelAdventuresLeave a review:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/solo-travel-adventures-safe-travel-for-women-preparing-for-a-trip-overcoming-fear-travel-tips/id1650161410

Quigley (2003)Directed By: William Byron HillmanStarring: Gary Busey, Osgood Perkins, Curtis Armstrong, that guy from Blue Lagoon (and "The Pirate Movie")Our Gary Busey month rolls on, and we're really good at picking winners. This time around Busey plays Archie - a VR software developer guy who hates dogs and is mean... or something. He swerves to miss running over a dog (which if he hates dogs why would he care?) and in the process rolls his car over and goes to heaven where he proceeds to get in a fight win an angel and gets sent back to Earth as a dog. Seriously. IMDB describes this as "A despicable person is reincarnated as a dog in order to atone for his life's big mistakes." What do the Statue of Liberty, Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, and the Eiffel Tower have in common? They've all become part of the global tourist trap circuit—places that promise unforgettable experiences but often deliver crowds, inflated prices, and a distinctly inauthentic atmosphere.I've traveled to numerous destinations on those viral "must-see before you die" lists, and while these iconic landmarks certainly have their merits, the experience of visiting them doesn't always match our expectations. The good news? There are practical strategies to transform even the most clichéd tourist destinations into meaningful, authentic adventures.Timing makes all the difference. Visiting Italy in November rather than July means fewer crowds, lower prices, and more available accommodations. Yes, you'll need an extra layer or two, but you'll gain a more intimate experience with the destination. Similarly, seeking out alternative experiences—like Iceland's lesser-known Glacier Lagoon instead of the crowded Blue Lagoon—provides comparable beauty without the overwhelming tourist presence. For truly immersive experiences, consider staying with locals outside tourist districts. When visiting Machu Picchu, some travelers spend days living with families in rural areas outside Cusco, gaining invaluable cultural insights before seeing the famous ruins. Even in major cities like Paris, exploring lesser-known arrondissements beyond the central tourist areas reveals authentic slices of local life most visitors never experience. The value of travel isn't about checking items off standardized bucket lists but creating meaningful connections with the places we visit. Whether you're an introvert seeking quiet experiences or simply tired of fighting crowds for the perfect photo, these strategies will help you discover the authentic heart of your destination. What's on your travel list? And more importantly—how will you experience it differently?Join our Facebook community "Solo Travel for Women Over 50" to share your own strategies for authentic travel experiences and connect with fellow adventure seekers who understand the balance between seeing iconic landmarks and discovering hidden gems.Instagram @solotraveladventures50Facebook community: Solo Travel for Women Over 50 https://www.facebook.com/groups/860865768609200Send me a message or share your solo travel story with me.https://www.speakpipe.com/SoloTravelAdventuresLeave a review:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/solo-travel-adventures-safe-travel-for-women-preparing-for-a-trip-overcoming-fear-travel-tips/id1650161410

Discovering your travel personality might be the key to your most enjoyable adventures yet. Do you meticulously plan every detail with color-coded spreadsheets, or do you prefer throwing caution to the wind and seeing where the journey takes you? The truth is, neither approach is inherently better—they simply reflect different personality types and comfort levels.Planned travel offers undeniable advantages: guaranteed access to popular attractions (like my recently secured Blue Lagoon reservation in Iceland that was nearly sold out weeks in advance), better pricing on accommodations, and that comforting sense of security that comes from knowing exactly where you'll be each day. It's particularly valuable for those new to solo travel or visiting highly touristed destinations during peak season. Yet this approach can transform your vacation into a rushed checklist exercise, leaving little room for those magical unplanned moments that often become our most cherished travel memories.Spontaneous travelers enjoy the freedom to extend stays in places they love, change direction on a whim, and discover hidden gems not found in guidebooks. This approach creates space for authentic local experiences and serendipitous encounters. However, as I recently discovered when I missed out on a recommended guesthouse in Iceland, this freedom comes at a price—potentially missing must-see attractions that require advance booking or facing limited accommodation options at premium prices. The sweet spot for most experienced travelers lies somewhere in between—perhaps securing flights, accommodations, and must-see attractions while deliberately leaving space for wandering and discovery. Your ideal approach should match your personality while considering your destination, travel experience, and the time of year you're visiting. What's your travel planning style? Has it evolved as you've gained more travel experience? Share your thoughts and join our community of solo adventurers who are constantly learning and growing through their journeys around the world!Instagram @solotraveladventures50Facebook community: Solo Travel for Women Over 50 https://www.facebook.com/groups/860865768609200Send me a message or share your solo travel story with me.https://www.speakpipe.com/SoloTravelAdventuresLeave a review:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/solo-travel-adventures-safe-travel-for-women-preparing-for-a-trip-overcoming-fear-travel-tips/id1650161410

Greetings from Iceland We are doing a special series of daily episodes that will capture highlights from our trip each day. We hope you enjoy this format and be sure to follow along with us over the next few episodes. Some links are affiliate links. See our disclosure. Day 1 Itinerary: Picked up Rental Car from IceRental 4x4 1. Blue Lagoon - Book Tickets ahead of time - we booked the Premium Package that included a robe, 3 masks, and 2 drinks. We booked the 9 am time slot but arrived shortly before 10 and spent a couple of hours here but you can stay as long as you like. There is also food available. I had gotten an email about booking a transfer that the parking might be limited due but since we had the rental car this wasn't really a viable option for us. There was enough parking available when we arrived and also when we left due to people leaving but this may be more of an issue in the high season. Note: if you want to see the Blue Lagoon but not book a ticket you can go in to the cafe or shop and walk out to the viewing area to see the Lagoon. 2. Þingvellir National Park From Blue Lagoon we drove to Reykjavik and then on to Þingvellir National Park with a stop for lunch outside Reykjavik at Tommi's Burger Joint. Walk between the continental plates at Almannagjá Gorge. Visit Öxarárfoss Waterfall 3. Geysir Geothermal Area (50 min from Þingvellir) • Watch Strokkur Geyser erupt every 5-10 minutes. • See Blesi hot springs and mud pools. 4. Gullfoss Waterfall (10 min from Geysir) • View this massive waterfall from the lower and upper platforms. 5. We stopped in Fludir and had dinner at The HIll before driving to our hotel on the South Ring Road Where we stayed: Hotel Selja (near Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabui waterfalls on the South road). Whether you're planning your first trip to Iceland or you've visited before, knowing the do's and don'ts can make your experience smoother and more enjoyable. Iceland is a breathtaking country with unique cultural norms, unpredictable weather, and natural wonders that demand respect and preparation. I'll walk you through essential travel tips—things you should absolutely do to get the most out of your visit, as well as common mistakes to avoid. From driving safely on Iceland's rugged roads to experiencing the hot springs like a local, these insights will help you navigate your adventure like a pro. Let's dive into the essential do's and don'ts for traveling in Iceland! 5 Do's & Don'ts When Visiting Iceland 1. Do go to local pools, lagoons and upscale spas. Iceland's bathing culture is such a big part of life here and it's lovely to relax in a geothermally warmed hot tub. Most people think that when I say local pool that I mean some run of the mill uninteresting place but in Iceland, the local pools are lovely and budget friendly. For instance, the biggest one in Laugardalslaug has several hot tubs, including a saltwater one, an Olympic sized lap pool, a wading pool, a gigantic slide for kids of all ages (meaning adults too), a steam room, sauna, a cold dipping pool and lovely changing area. All of that is accessible at the cost of 1.389 ISK or $9.81 for adults, $1.41 for young adults aged 16-17 and free for children up to the age of 15. Every local pool has its own charm and there is almost 2 dozen just in the Reykjavík capital area and many around the whole country.Places like the Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon and other well known places to take a dip will cost a lot more. For instance, the Blue Lagoon is 9.900 ISK or about $70 for the lowest admission price for one adult. These places are extremely unique and I have enjoyed many visits to all of the lagoons and new baths around the country, so I don't discourage going, but just know that you have local options too that are great. Don't go into a pool, lagoon, or hot tub in Iceland without showering first One of the most important etiquette rules in Iceland is showering thoroughly, without a swimsuit, before entering a pool, lagoon, or hot tub. Iceland's geothermal pools and hot springs are an essential part of the culture, and maintaining their cleanliness is taken very seriously.Due to the country's limited use of chlorine in pools, washing with soap beforehand helps keep the water hygienic for everyone. Most public swimming areas have strict signage explaining the showering protocol, and some even have attendants ensuring compliance.Skipping this step is considered disrespectful to locals, and you might be asked to leave. Icelanders grow up with this rule, so while it might feel unfamiliar to visitors, it is essential for keeping the pools enjoyable for all. 2. Do Travel to different parts of the country when you visit Iceland is much more than Reykjavik and the Golden Circle. While the capital offers vibrant culture, history, and nightlife, venturing beyond reveals breathtaking landscapes, unique geological formations, and local experiences that make a trip unforgettable. The South Coast is home to stunning waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, black sand beaches, and the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. The Westfjords, a lesser-visited gem, offers dramatic fjords, bird cliffs, and remote hot springs. The North, particularly Akureyri and Mývatn, provides volcanic landscapes, geothermal baths, and excellent whale watching. The Eastfjords offer charming fishing villages and rugged mountains, while the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is often called "Iceland in Miniature" due to its diverse natural beauty. Expanding your itinerary ensures you experience the true essence of Iceland. Don't Only stay in Reykjavik While Reykjavik is a fantastic city with a lively atmos...

Brooke Shields started in Hollywood at just 11-years-old, starring in films like Pretty Baby and The Blue Lagoon. From that young age, the actress and model was sexualized on and off screen – and decades later, she's out with a memoir that reflects on that public scrutiny. In Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old, Shields – now 59 – writes about her experience with age-related bias in the industry. In today's episode, she speaks with NPR's Leila Fadel about her refusal to feel invisible as she ages, how sweetness can be a liability, and a medical procedure that was performed without her consent. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Iceland has a stunning landscape with glaciers galore … but is more properly fire island. Lava, earthquakes eruptions and volcanoes dominate life and world headlines. Before Christmas 2023, an eruption forced people from their homes in the fishing port of Grindavik. One year and six eruptions later – the townspeople are back. But another eruption nearby is spewing lava across the car park of the famous Blue Lagoon. By the time you hear this podcast, that eruption could be over… or much worse.Yet despite all the risk and uncertainty, many Icelanders say they live here because of their volcanoes not despite them. Why? That's what this podcast is all about. CreditsThanks to Easyjet for flights – direct to Reykjavik every weekday from Edinburgh. We're baaaaack! On this week's episode of The Rate Guy, we talk about why we can't take vacations! We step away for a moment, and everything goes haywire. An exasperated JP dives into the current market craziness, and reassures everyone that we're back for a while, and things will (hopefully) settle down. Tune in as we break down Core PCE, GDP forecasts, and what to expect from the next jobs report. Is inflation really making a comeback? Can strong GDP calm the markets? And what's the Fed's next move? Plus, highlights from our Iceland adventure—stunning waterfalls, elusive northern lights, and why the Blue Lagoon left us seriously underwhelmed. In today's podcast episode, we have an exciting guest, Ms. Smrutha Santhosh, who takes us on a whirlwind vacation adventure she had with her husband and son in Iceland. This family loves taking Christmas trips, but this one was special as they were chasing the Northern Lights for the first time. Their journey, however, got off to a rocky start—literally. They lost a bag in transit, and driving on icy roads soon became a test of nerves. One night, a snowstorm led to a major mishap when their car landed in a giant ice ditch, leaving them stranded in the freezing cold for over 2-3 hours, waiting for help. A true misadventure! But instead of letting it ruin the trip, they quickly devised a Plan B. They joined a tour group to explore the beautiful icy landscape of Iceland. From soaking in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon during fresh snowfall to marveling at glaciers, frozen waterfalls, giant geysers, and mega craters, they embraced Iceland's “Land of Fire and Ice” experience. And of course, the ultimate highlight was witnessing the breathtaking aurora borealis dance across the sky for the very first time. Despite the setbacks, this trip turned out to be one for the books. It reminded them that vacations are all about making memories, spending quality time with loved ones, and embracing the unexpected. My guest's lively storytelling made this conversation a joy to listen to. I am doing something a little bit different for this episode and am sharing all of the exciting details of my recent trip - two weeks exploring the stunning landscapes of Iceland! From the moment that we arrived, Iceland offered us both breathtaking beauty and unexpected challenges, and I am here to share it all with you: the highs, the lows, and everything in between, including the learning curve that we faced with the Icelandic climate! We kicked off our adventure during the Icelandic summer, a time marked by the fascinating phenomenon of the midnight sun. With nearly 24 hours of daylight, we journeyed along the famous Golden Circle, uncovering Iceland's natural wonders such as geysers and waterfalls. The weather was brutal at times, with relentless winds and rain, but I share some advice about what we learned, including but not limited to some packing tips that could help you in the long run. I also dive into answering the many questions that you have sent in. Why did we choose Iceland? How did we cope with the harsh weather? What activities should be on your must-do list? From hiking the dramatic landscapes to soaking in the soothing waters of the Blue Lagoon and venturing inside a dormant volcano, listen in for the inside scoop on what made this trip truly special!
