Join Gary in this LIVE episode of HopTalk, recorded at the buzzing LA Beer Week kickoff festival, where he sits down with Tom Kelley of El Segundo Brewing. This isn't your typical beer chat; it's a deep dive into the LA beer scene's journey from a handful of breweries to over a hundred. Tom, who began his craft beer journey as a bartender at Library Alehouse and has helped grow El Segundo Brewing into one of LA's best breweries, shares his first-hand experience of the growth of LA's beer culture. We cover the rise of the craft beer market, the impact of social media, and the importance of community events like LA Beer Week. But it's more than a history lesson; it's about the bonds formed over a shared passion for beer. Tom highlights how the LA beer scene isn't just about the number of breweries, but the community that's formed around them. We also delve into their collaboration project with Smog City, 'Squirrel Tooth Tiger,' a distinctive brew that shows the creative spirit of LA's breweries. It's a brief chat, but one that encapsulates the innovation LA's beer scene is known for.

Cheers and new beers, tap heads! We're very excited to welcome Andrew Bell, Jonas Nemura, and Cambria Griffith to the show. They are the team behind the brand new brewery in Anaheim, CA, Radiant Beer Company. Andrew is the director of brewing and was the Innovation Manager at The Bruery. Jonas ran operations at The Bruery as well as Chapman Crafted. Cambria is the director of marketing and has worked with The Bruery, Offshoot, Golden Road, Figueroa Mountain, LA Beer Week, and more!We talk about everything from opening a brewery (especially during a pandemic) to their favorite terms for being drunk.Jonas talks about what it means to lead operations. In contrast, Andrew talks about the challenges of opening an already constructed brewery and the speed at which this project came together. We find out if they're crazy for opening during a pandemic. Cambria discusses the challenges of attracting people during difficult times. Andrew discloses (sort of) some of the collaborations he's working on, and they talk about how they'll stand out from other local breweries. After some discussion, we find out that the last project that everyone worked on together was Offshoot Beer Co. It also gets revealed that Cambria is a level two certified cicerone. We get down to the necessary details and find out what Andrew's focus will be when it comes to making beer. Finally, we wrap things up with a round of Rapid Fire questions and find out that Cambria loves cheap beer and tacos but can't come up with a good word for being drunk, while both Jonas and Andrew are not a fan of macro lagers...to say the least.A huge thank you to the whole Radiant Beer crew. We're so excited to try their beer in (hopefully) just a few weeks. Make sure you check them out at www.radiantbeer.com and @radiantbeer on the main socials. Find them at 1566 W. In honor of this year’s LA Beer Week, Suppertime in the LBC hit the road to talk about the city’s rapidly growing craft beer scene and why you should ditch the wine and fizzy yellow stuff for a locally-made brew. With Brian Addison on leave for the week, the Post’s resident beer guru Sarah Bennett sat down with Dennis Trilles of Craft Beer Long Beach and Hi-Lo editor (and craft beer neophyte) Steve Lowery to talk about the city’s world-class breweries, why tasting rooms are the new local pubs and how to find your gateway beer. Recorded live over sour ales and pilsners at Long Beach Beer Labs’ Wrigley tasting room.

Season 3, Episode 25 – It’s L.A. Beer Week! Let’s drink some beer from Los Angeles breweries. L.A. Beer Week is upon us! This yearly celebration of Los Angeles beer, bars, breweries, homebrewers, restaurants, eateries, food trucks, and beer drinkers has evolved into one of the best celebrations of beer culture in southern California. From Long Beach to Pomona to Gorman, the expansive and densely populated county of Los Angeles has become a destination for beer geeks far and wide. Today, we celebrate L.A. beer by drinking eight beers from L.A. breweries. The Crowd at the 2016 LA Beer Week Kickoff – #LABW8 The 2016 #LABW8 Kickoff Festival was Saturday, June 18, and it was pretty amazing. Not only were Los Angeles breweries pouring, but breweries from Orange County, the Inland Empire, San Diego County, and even the Bay area and beyond were participating in the action. There were so many awesome breweries, and they brought their A-game. Fundamental Observation from Bottle Logic Brewing was “secretly” being poured, Beachwood Blendery brought bottles from their Propagation series of wild and farmhouse inspired ales, while newer breweries like Mumford Brewing impressed folks with their hoppy and juicy IPA. The entertainment was spot on, the lines were short for the most part, and the event overall was very well organized. Props to the Los Angeles County Brewers Guild for organizing such an awesome event! Los Angeles Breweries L.A. Beer Week is this week! So many events are happening all over southern California that you’d be hard pressed to not find something that’s happening in your neck of the woods. A full listing of everything that’s going down this week can be found at the L.A. Beer Week website, or by downloading the DoStuff app [iOS | Android] and searching for “LA Beer Week”. We’ll see you around and cheers to Los Angeles beer! BREW THE SHIT OUT OF IT, LOS ANGELES. Season 2, Episode 31 – This week, we’re drinking a variety of Belgian-style ales because why the hell not. It truly is a great time in craft beer. The beers are this week’s show exemplify it. Crooked Stave, Jester King, Highland Park Brewery…damn. We kick off the show with two beers from one of Los Angeles’ newest breweries, Highland Park Brewery. Highland Park is a local favorite of ours, and rightly so. They’re located near Eagle Rock Brewing and Golden Road Brewing Company, so making a trip so the somewhat out of the way brewery and tasting room at HP is well worthwhile. Assorted Dope-Ass Brews Next up is the 2015 LA Beer Week collaboration beer, Unity. Unity was brewed at Smog City Brewing in Torrance, CA in collaboration with other local Los Angeles breweries. We also spend a bit of time talking about LA Beer Week’s Kickoff Celebration that Jason and Matt attended back in June. The final beer is a collaboration between Crooked Stave, Jester King, and Swiss brewery Brasserie Trois Dames. Matt randomly found this beer at a local shop near The Bruery, so of course, he bought it. I mean, you can’t go wrong, right? Until next week… BREW THE SHIT OUT OF IT. LA Beer Week is here, and we kicked it off in style recently at Deconstructed LA with Firestone Walker and the culinary genius of Sean Z. Paxton. It was a night of heavy hitting beers, and heavy hitting food. Join me as I share audio from the evening, and recap some of the magic Chef Paxton shared with us that night, followed by a sit down interview with the star of the show himself.
