This week, the panel begins by entering the multiverse of Everything Everywhere All At Once. Then, the panel dives into Apple TV+'s newest spy drama Slow Horses (based on books that were reviewed by Slate's own Laura Miller). Finally, the panel talks about music's next big thing: British indie-rock duo Wet Leg's newest self-titled album.   In Slate Plus, the panel discusses a Gawker article from Rachel Connolly, titled “The ‘Pity Me!' Personal Essay.” Email us at culturefest@slate.com. Endorsements Dana: Dana reads Herman Melville's sonnet titled “Art” about…art! Also, this video of Dana's recent book event in Philadelphia! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyODZSE6w_o Julia: L.A. Times' Festival of Books—where both Julia and Dana are doing panels!—which takes place April 23–24th. In addition: L.A. This week life threw us a few spanners and we missed our Tuesday episode, but with this ep we are back better than ever! Laura finally jumped on the “Too Hot To Handle” bandwagon, she is born again and now Britt feels less alone in her recommendation for you all.Fun aside, we always jump into and issue that we feel is important and is in need of discussion... today that topic is gaslighting. It's a very serious manipulative, emotional behaviour, so we talk what it is, how to recognise it and what to do if you find yourself in that situation. We love all you hot tamales and can't thank you enough for your love and support, especially when life throws us off course a little. If you haven't already please leave a review, tell a friend and share the love, because, well, we love love. Thanks to our sponsor Marzena, sustainable at home wax strips.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Alexis De Veaux, Ph.D, is one of a stellar list of American writers highlighted by LIT CITY, a public art initiative of banners bearing their names and images in downtown Buffalo, New York, in recognition of the city’s renowned literary legacy. Co-Founder of The Center for Poetic Healing, a project of Lyrical Democracies (with Kathy Engel), and of the Flamboyant Ladies Theatre Company (with Gwendolen Hardwick), Alexis De Veaux is an activist and writer whose work in multiple genres is nationally and internationally known. In this interview Alexis talks about: reaching back to bring it forward; Black Diasporic ways of being; and growing up with elders deeply steeped in re-imagining while making due. Alexis talks about being from New York, and her recent return to a family home place - New Orleans. She says that she learned early on that if you are going to survive, you have to be creative... and that if you tap that source/you’ll be tapping back and you’ll be tapping forward. She names some of her mentors and speaks about her RedBone Press book Yabo and Warrior Poet, A Biography of Audre Lorde. http://www.alexisdeveaux.com http://whoyopeopleis.com
