In this episode of Flanigan's Eco-Logic, Ted interviews Stephan Crawford, the founder and executive producer of ClimateMusic. Stephan is a San Francisco-based fine artist who in 2014 developed ClimateMusic. Frustrated by the lack of action to combat the very real threat of the climate emergency, Stephan brought together musicians with science experts to develop musical messages to educate and inspire action. In addition, ClimateMusic brings together visual artists and videographers to enhance and spread its messaging far and wide.Stephan and his ~40 collaborators have found that music is a good entry point for those that might not go to a scientific lecture or read a report. Instead, ClimateMusic is tapping into the universal, and uniquely powerful language of music. To date, ClimatMusic has worked in 10 countries and has reached audiences in over 30 countries. One of ClimateMusic's campaigns that targets youth -- the Be Cool Campaign -- engaged 2,400 young singers on four continents. The musical composition is joyful. Stephan notes that the climate emergency is hard for young people. They find it scary. Like adults, they often do not have a sense of the urgency of the climate emergency, nor a sense of what they can do to combat climate change. ClimateMusic is strategic and deliberate with each concert covering three parts: the climate science, the musical performance, followed by conversations for engagement. The Be Cool Campaign, a collaboration with U.K.-based Musicians Declare Emergency, serves as a convenor that draws out emotions that in turn leads to action. Be Cool has connected kids in many countries. It has over 136,000 views. One of its exciting results was a GoFundMe campaign for a solar system that will provide light and cooling for a Nigerian school.

President Donald Trump's posts on Truth Social triggered market volatility and raised legal concerns hours before he announced a 90-day pause on tariffs. Trump wrote, "BE COOL! Everything is going to work out well," followed by, "This is a great time to buy!!!" prompting immediate market reactions. Following Trump's posts—but before the China tariff reversal became public—the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 8%, the S&P 500 increased 9%, and the Nasdaq Composite surged 12%. Democrats are now raising questions about who profited from these market fluctuations and the legality of Trump's actions. Before addressing reporters, Trump was overheard on a microphone discussing financial gains: "Charles Schwab, he made 2.5 billion today, and he made 900 million." Sen. Chris Murphy described the situation as a potential insider trading scandal. "I have questions about the tariff announcements, who benefited and who made money, because this could be an enormous scam," Murphy said. Learn more about your ad choices. Developer" Formed in the mid-80s in Missoula, Montana by high school pals Tim Midyett, Joel R. Phelps and Andy Cohen and rounded out by Seattle-born drummer Michael Dahlquist, Silkworm remain one of the most singular indie rock bands of all time. They relocated from Montana to Seattle in 1990 and then the real fun began. Their 1994 album In The West was produced by Steve Albini, who actually went to the same high school in Montana, and this is the album where Silkworm really hit their stride. From Garden City Blues to Raised By Tigers, In The West was filled with dark, churning rhythms, brooding percussion and inventive lyrics. Phelps left the band after In The West, but Silkworm kept moving from strength to strength, putting out classic albums like Developer, Italian Platinum and It'll Be Cool. Their close to 15 album discography is near-perfect and repeated listens always yield new sonic surprises. The band ended in 2005 after the death of Dahlquist in a car accident, which also claimed the lives of several of his friends. However, after the death of Albini back in 2024, the high school unit of Phelps, Midyett and Cohen along with drummer Jeff Panall played a tribute show in his honor. One thing led to another and now we have the first Silkworm live dates in over 20 years which will start in September. Look, Silkworm are a fascinating band--check out the documentary Couldn't You Wait? The Story Of Silkworm to get the holes filled in and pick up the re-mastered and expanded version of Developer that Comedy Minus One just put out, but let me just say this: it's hard to think of a more idiosyncratic, and downright appealing band than Silkworm. The innovative word-play, the guitars that rise and fall in big crunchy bursts, the prowling bass-lines and the bursts of stirring percussion make them one of the most enigmatic, unique and altogether appealing bands in recent memory. www.skwm.bandcamp.com www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) IG & BLUESKY: @emberspodcast

Now that I have so many streaming services, I watch a ton of movies. Many were never released in theaters. Some went straight to DVD, and the more recent movies were made just for the streaming services. I don't even mind waiting for films to finish their run at the theater. Occasionally, I find a movie on cable or one of the streamers that was popular in the theater, but I wasn't familiar with it. I stumbled upon one of those a few days ago. It was Be Cool, starring John Travolta and Uma Thurman. I vaguely remember when it was released nearly 20 years ago, and wonder how I missed it... Checking in from her Berkshires home, Heather is here to tell it all. Let us start at the beginning, Season Five of The Real Housewives of New York City.  Heather discusses what it was like back in the day in the groundbreaking season when the first ever major cast shake up took place seeing several OG's be replaced by a new crop (along with Aviva Drescher and Carole Radziwill). Heather chats about what it was like to film having never really watched the show and what it was like to be “inducted” by The Singer Stinger. Heather discusses just how far The Housewives Franchise has come from and how social media now plays a huge role, for better or worse, in the show and the drama that goes along with being a Real Housewife. Heather discusses some of the most iconic moments that took place during her tenure on RHONY such as “Take a Xanax”, “Be Cool, Don't Be All Uncool”, and that infamous Le Cirque Leg Toss. We touch upon Heather's final season as a full time cast member, the introduction of one Dorinda Medley and the return of one Bethenny Frankel. Heather opens up about how the presence of Bethenny Frankel on set changed the mood and vibe and how the women really reacted behind the scenes to her return and the advice she has for Bethenny who, maybe, does “know it all”.  Holla, this Mama is Behind The Rope and ready to spill it all. @iamheathert @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope  BROUGHT TO YOU BY: ONESKIN - oneskin.co (Get 15% Off With the Code VELVET This Skincare Which Targets The Root Causes of Aging) NOOM - noom.com (Sign Up For Your Trial Today So You Can Manage Your Weight For The Long Term) LIFEMD - lifemd.com/VELVET (Visit lifemd.com/VELVET To Start Your Weight Loss Journey Today) WONDERY: EVEN THE ROYALS  (You Can Binge Even the Royals Ad-Free Right Now on Wondery Plus) ADVERTISING INQUIRIES - Please contact David@advertising-execs.com MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices.
