This week's episode of The Driven Podcast takes you far from the warm confines of a studio and puts you… in a warm desert to hear the sounds of the Dakar Rally. You've likely heard of the Dakar, but you actually heard it? As well as being there to hear the cars thunder by, we get inside the Ford team to learn about the top tier T1 Raptor.Alex Goy ventured out into the sands to see what's what in all things Dakar. From discovering the perfect way to tackle the rally (it's a bit gross but WOULD work), hearing what a T1 truck sounds like at full pelt, to sitting down with the Ford M-Sport team to learn how to peel a Rally Raid truck apart, and what it's like to drive, it's quite the adventure. Guests this week include Driver Mitch Guthrie Jnr, off-road programme manager - Mike Norton, Chief Engineer Jon Sprackling and team principle Mathew Wilson. You'll hear tales of derring do, some rather fine motor vehicle noises, and learn first hand what it's like to tackle the toughest race on earth. Think you know Dakar? You will after this…_______________________________________________The Driven Podcast brings you motoring-focused discussions, observations from the automotive world, and interviews in which we explore our guests' careers, exploits, and anything else worth discussing. We will also keep you up to speed with the latest automotive news stories and insights into the cars and motorcycles we're reviewing at Driven. Trudno w to uwierzyć, ale spędziliśmy wspólnie z Potężną Thor ponad trzy lata. Dziś MistyPop i Jerry kończą tę podróż, trzymając w rękach tom o wymownym tytule „Śmierć Potężnej Thor”. If you enjoyed Part 1 of David Epstein's BJSM podcast listen to this one to hear about the genetic contribution to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the reason it is so hard to detect in all cases, and real life choices that some players made when offered genetic screening opportunities. We finish by discussing whether an Olympic cross-country ski champion with a hematocrit of 65 is a blood-doper or the carrier of an unusual single-gene mutation. I learned a great deal from David Epstein in both podcasts; David has put the bar very high for future podcast guests. Recorded at the Summit – Leaders in Performance – New York (June 17/18 2014); with permission from Leaders (James Worrall). David Epstein's session at Leaders was sponsored by Aspetar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, Doha, Qatar. A conversation between Patricia Chevez-Barrios, MD, and Mathew Wilson, MD, FACS. Since intra-arterial chemotherapy for retinoblastoma reemerged five years ago, the procedure has been performed successfully in more than 25 countries, with high rates of globe salvage. But as the procedure has gained traction, significant complications and unanswered questions have also surfaced. Drs. Matt Wilson and Patricia Chevez-Barrios discuss those questions and the potential risks of treating the eye first rather than the patient. (June 2011)
