Writer, colorist, filmmaker... foodie?! Gregory Wright dabbles in a bit of everything, but his heart is always with comics. He got his start at Marvel, first in editorial, but then writing and/or coloring big books like Deathlok, Silver Sable and the Wild Pack, Morbius, and X-Men: The Hidden Years. Other coloring gigs included the first three issues of Savage Dragon, DC's Zero Hour crossover, and a handful of Richard Starkings' Elephantmen issues. All hail the King of Fonts! That's right, Richard Starkings is in the hot seat today, answering all of our questions about lettering, font design, Marvel UK, Comicraft, Doctor Who, and his Elephantmen universe. Richard got into comics in his native UK, where he started lettering for 2000 AD, Warrior, and various Marvel UK titles. After moving stateside, he founded Comicraft, a lettering and design company that works with all the major publishers. His original creation, Hip Flask, was born out of an advertisement for Comicraft and soon had its own series of one-shot specials. Then came the ongoing prequel series Elephantmen, which continues to this day.  You can find the writer, editor, and letterer on Twitter and Instagram @RichStarkings._____________________Dollar Bin Bandits is the official podcast of TwoMorrows Publishing. When onetime Acid Bath and Agents of Oblivion vocalist Dax Riggs took himself to the outermost reaches of his imagination with Deadboy & the Elephantmen, he reached the highest of creative and emotional heights. After the first Deadboy album (If This Is Hell Then I'm Lucky, self-released, 2002), Dax and band went through a number of changes before arriving at the more stripped down and, in our opinion, disappointing We Are Night Sky (Fat Possum, 2006). This episode focuses on the incredible material Dax/Deadboy were working on in their most transitional and obscure phase. The total godhead. We talk about the concept behind his new series “Ask for Mercy” –available exclusively on ComiXology Originals—a tale of Nazi demons and the group of supernatural warriors tasked with stopping them. We also talk the “graying” of the world of comics and how it's impacted the characters of this and other titles. We spend some time on our favorite characters, the notion of hope and it's reflected in certain titles. Matt Warren is up next, and with 40 years in the industry he has a lot to share. We talk about the advent of house music, how one made a career back in the era of vinyl and cassettes, and his upcoming tour for his debut album, “Music is My Life.” On this week's podcast, I feature the song “Star-Crossed,” by the band Excorde, made up of Jimena Arroyo, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Jonnie Cook, from Chicago. Be you man or animal-man, this week's podcast has something for everyone - Richard Starkings stops to talk about Elephantmen!  We take you on a comic book safari through the app to see the untamed Batman and Robin, the magestic Walking Dead grazing for brains, and Archie in his untouched habitat of Riverdale.  Then we bring it back around for some Wonder Woman, a bit of Avengers, and say our final goodbye to Jack of Fables.  Even John Merrick would be proud of this one.

[rating:4/5] MAJOR SPOILERS POLL OF THE WEEK Forget the fighting, forget the obscure references, this week we’re taking a look at the habits of the Major Spoilerite, and what you are reading beyond Marvel and DC. VOTE![poll id="173"] VOTE ELMER Jake Gallo is an angry young man, frustrated at his lack of employment and easily provoked by perceived slights. It is not until we are several pages into the book that we discover that he is also a talking, thinking chicken. He is no anomaly; decades earlier, all of chickenkind suddenly gained intelligence and speech; by the 2000s they are legally human. Jake’s father’s illness and subsequent death lead Jake to read his father’s account of the early days after the change; this in turn allows Alanguilan to show the reader the often horrific sequence of events that followed chickenkind’s sudden elevation to sapience. Used to seeing chickens as food or worse, humans are not shown at their best as they react, often violently, to this sudden alteration of the natural order.
