Internationally renowned, Adelaide born vocalist/guitarist Orianthi has swept all before her in a brilliant career as both a touring musician and solo artist. She has played with and alongside some of the best in the business, including Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper and Dave Stewart honing her craft and mesmerizing audiences worldwide with her guitar playing prowess and stage presence, but she returns on October 14 with new solo album Rock Candy that promises to cement her musical reputation as her own entity.Described as a "hard rockin' blues tinged display of dazzling guitar and soulful vocals", Rock Candy displays Orianthi at her devestating best, combining all of her loves and influences into a collection of songs that engages on every level.HEAVY caught up with Orianthi to find out more."We made a record in 13, 14 days," she began, "with Jacob Bunton and we went for it. Rock Candy really represents what the record sounds like. It's rock and roll and it's tough, there's some good things there. That's why Light It Up is super heavy rock, and then you've got Fire Together which is more on the pop side with more of a rock chorus and that's what you're gonna get on the whole record. It's a good mix. I wanted to make something in present time. I didn't want to bring songs from the past in as much as writing a song a day and recording a song a day so the challenge was to get it all done within 13 or 14 days and write something every day and record it. I was going through a lot of things at the time, so I didn't have any creative blockages or anything like that. It felt like I was letting everything out, like a diary entry on record."In the full interview, Orianthi talks more about the writing and recording one song each day idea, the disparity of styles on the album, Light It Up and how it references the overall sound of Rock Candy, the bookend style of the opening and closing songs, Jacob Bunton's contribution on multiple instruments, what she gets out of performing solo that she might not in a band situation plans for an Australian tour and more.

Your heroes return to unravel Tom King's Rorschach! "It's been 35 years since Ozymandias dropped a giant interdimensional squid on New York City, killing thousands and destroying the public's trust in heroes once and for all. And since that time, one figure in a fedora, mask, and trench coat has become a divisive cultural icon. So what does it mean when Rorschach reappears as an assassin trying to kill a candidate running against President Robert Redford? Who is the man behind the mask, and why is he acting this way? It's up to one detective to uncover the true identity of this would-be killer--and it will take him into a web of conspiracies involving alien invasions, disgraced do-gooders, mystic visions, and yes, comic books."Rorschach is written by Tom King, art by Jorge Fornés, inked by Mark Morales, colored by Dave Stewart, lettered by Clayton Cowles, and published by DC Comics.Follow ComiClub on Instagram @ComiClubPodcastComiClub is hosted by Blaine McGaffigan and Adam Cook.

DETAIN THE NUCLEAR KLEPTOMANIAC A BLOCK (1:47) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump is a nuclear kleptomaniac. And per The Washington Post, the FBI recovered "a document describing a foreign government's...nuclear capabilities" he had taken to Mar-a-Lago. We do not have TIME for a Trump appointee's bought-and-paid-for delays. Judge Cannon must vacate her Special Master ruling, or the Department of Justice must ignore it, and if necessary arrest Judge Cannon as a risk to the national nuclear defense. (3:52) WHY is Trump not already in a naval brig or army stockage? WHY haven't Mar-a-Lago, Bedminster, and Trump Tower been sealed off indefinitely until we are sure he didn't stash MORE NUCLEAR DOCUMENTS THERE? (5:12) We spent the years after 9/11 listening to the Republicans warn of "loose nukes," dirty bombs, unimaginable risks - this document IS a loose nuke, it is the written equivalent of a dirty bomb, and TRUMP is the "unimaginable risk." 10:30 On August 26 Trump boasted "nothing mentioned on 'nuclear'" in the Mar-a-lago affidavit. Now 'nuclear' has been mentioned and Trump must be detained in a secure facility until we know we and our allies are safe, and then we can decide how many decades his sentence should be for. B BLOCK (15:28) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Cider, in Atlanta (17:05) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: The Insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment is finally used to remove an officeholder; the damning video showing Sidney Powell's henchmen going in to access a Georgia voting system; the would-be Trump Attorney General Jeff Clark fails to get the bar association's punishment against him sealed. (20:35) IN SPORTS: Minor League Baseball players seem set to join Big Leaguers' union, Chicago Bears announce a new stadium just as they've done continuously since 1989, and Oakland's Dave Stewart will be honored, but not for Lucille - and how Nancy Faust figures in! (26:23) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD (26:23) As the new British Prime Minister's twitter handle, the Ohio GOP skunked by Trump, and the Proud Boy who wasn't too proud to lie, vie for the honors. C BLOCK (31:58) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It took a year to finally get to the sports anchor desk at WCVB Channel 5 Boston, but only six months to get the hell out. Why would you hire me to do sports if you didn't want me to tell jokes?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kaya Stewart has been writing and recording songs since she was 13 years old. Sure Dave Stewart of Eurythmics is her Dad but that doesn't guarantee talent or success and she knows that. After a song she wrote and recorded blew up on Soundcloud, records labels started knocking on her door.  Soon she found herself on Warner Brothers Records and out on the Vans Warped Tour but it wasn't all dreamy. Kaya decided to start over and do things her way. During the Pandemic she was diagnosed with OCD which was the catalyst to write the collection of songs that make up her new album IF THINGS GO SOUTH which was co-written and co-produced by Dave Stewart. The record comes out Sept 30th and will be available on all streaming platforms. Kaya has an incredible voice and is a great songwriter and I really dig some of the songs on her new album. On this episode, J.H. Williams III (Sandman Overture, Promethea, Batwoman, Batman, Desolation Jones, Blondie, The Sword) returns to the show after the release of the first volume of his series Echolands from Image Comics. Our first conversation happened after Issue 1 which only gave us a brief glimpse into the world he co-created with W. Haden Blackman (Star Wars, Elektra). The team is once again joined by the legendary Dave Stewart on colors and the GOAT Todd Klein. In a bizarre future world that has forgotten its history, a reckless thief, Hope Redhood, holds the key to excavating its dark, strange past—if only she and her crew can escape a tyrannical wizard and his unstoppable daughter. But fate will send them all on a path leading to a war between worlds. Echolands is a landscape format, mythic-fiction epic where anything is possible—a fast-paced genre mashup adventure that combines everything from horror movie vampires to classic mobsters and cyborg elves, to Roman demigods and retro rocket ships. It's full of things you know spun in an entirely new way. With this interview Dan and J.H. were able to really dive deeper into the world and its inspirations. The discussed quotes as a form of inspiration to them as creators. Williams got a bit in depth on each of the different parts of the world of Echolands including Horror Hill which Dan was eager to learn much more about. Dan talks about their discussion of Cor in the first episode and why the character is important for him and others. Both of their minds spent some time in the gutters... no not those gutters weirdos... the gutters of the page itself to discuss how it can effect the art and story on page physically. They also once again talk about music and specifically Lizzo. Echolands Vol 1 is out now wherever comics are sold in a hardcover format. This is the series you want to read physically to truly absorb all of the feeling of holding the abnormal formatting. Read our review here!

This week we look to the stars for inspiration for our show theme. Oh yeah! We are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. A band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. We dive into some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members along with, Offshoots which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Screaming Lord Sutch - “Wailing Sounds” from Lord Sutch & Heavy Friends (1970)Living Loud - “Last Chance” from Living Loud (2004)SuperHeavy - “I Can't Take It No More” from SuperHeavy (2011)Contraband - “Loud Guitars, Fast Cars, & Wild, Wild Livin'” from Contraband (1991)Flint - “Better You Than Me” from Flint (1978)Gogmagog - “I Will Be There” from I Will Be There (1985)Spys4Darwin - “Dashboard Jesus” from microfish (2001)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

PART ONE:We pay tribute to Songcraft friend and legendary songwriter Lamont Dozier, who passed away recently at the age of 81. In happier news, we discuss Paul's recent nomination for a GMA Dove Award for Songwriter of the year before diving into the Ringo Starr Instagram foot controversy. PART TWO (14:39):We make an important announcement about the future of Songcraft, reveal the winner of our Dave Alvin book giveaway, and share all the details on the brand new Byrds coffee table book. PART THREE (22:13):Our in-depth interview with Roger McGuinnABOUT ROGER McGUINN:Our guest on this episode of Songcraft is Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Roger McGuinn. Best known for his work with The Byrds, Roger's distinctive 12-string electric guitar style helped propel the singles “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Turn! Turn! Turn!” to the top of the charts. As a songwriter, Roger wrote or co-wrote many of the band's classics, including “Eight Miles High,” “5D,” “Mr. Spaceman,” “So You Want to Be a Rock ‘n' Roll Star,” “Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man,” “Ballad of Easy Rider,” “Chestnut Mare,” and others. He launched a solo career in the 1970s, releasing albums that explored new musical territory, and touring as part of Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue. By the end of the decade, Roger had reunited with former Byrds bandmates Chris Hillman and Gene Clark as a trio known as McGuinn, Clark & Hillman, which yielded the McGuinn-penned Top 40 single “Don't You Write Her Off.” His 1991 comeback album, Back from Rio, included the Billboard Mainstream Rock hits “King of the Hill” and “Someone to Love,” and featured songs co-written with Tom Petty, Dave Stewart, Jeff Lynne, Mike Campbell, and McGuinn's wife Camilla, who has since become his primary songwriting partner. A lifelong folk music enthusiast, McGuinn has recorded hundreds of songs as part of his online Folk Den project. A compilation album, Treasures from the Folk Den, earned Roger his third Grammy nomination. Most recently, the three surviving founding members of The Byrds—McGuinn, Hillman, and David Crosby—have put together an oversized 400-page coffee table book of photographs and oral history called The Byrds: 1964-1967, which is available for order in both standard and limited-edition autographed versions at www.byrdsbook.com.

Dave Stewart never won a Cy Young award, but between 1987-1990, he was the best pitcher in baseball: four straight 20-plus win seasons; the ace of his hometown Oakland A's team that went to three straight World Series (and who started Game 1 of every series); the starter of the 1989 All-Star Game; a no-hitter in 1990; and the guy who always beat Roger Clemens. Stewart's rise to the top didn't come easy. We discussed how close he was to leaving baseball after the Phillies released him in 1986. "Smoke" shared why he pulled his cap so low when pitching, which teams didn't want him to throw the forkball that made him a star, what compelled him to visit the hardest hit areas of his hometown during the 1989 earthquake, and yes, the 9-0 record in nine starts vs Clemens. On the weekend Stewart was inducted into the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame, we reflected on his two years with the Albuquerque Dukes, how pitching in extreme altitude toughed him, how the PCL playoffs prepared him for the MLB playoffs, and what the Hall of Fame honor means to him.
