Send us a textThis week on Love on the Pod, Sherri and Jessica are rolling solo (well, duo!) while Dani is off snuggling her sweet new baby on maternity leave. And what better way to celebrate a little mystery and mayhem than diving into Reality Bites: A Hannah Swensen Mystery?Grab your cookies and settle in as we talk suspicious cupcakes, community gossip, and that very dramatic pie scene. Sherri's got thoughts on Mike's mysterious motives, Jessica's making a case for more Norman screen time (as always), and both are wondering why Hannah keeps finding dead bodies but never locks her door.
It's seconds to midnight for submarine volcano Axial Seamount as it prepares to erupt 300 miles off the Oregan Coast in the Pacific Ocean. Scientist have stated that a possible 10,000 earthquakes could follow its eruption. It just happens to be one of the most prolific areas for UFO/UAP sightings of late. Then there is the work of Dr. Beatriz Villarroel who has been studying original photographic plates from the 1950's at Mount Palomar and found many anomalous objects in Earth orbit. The Angry Astronaut Linkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlOE0hrcpVc&t=1109s&ab_channel=TheAngryAstronaut
Hello, you've reached the winter of our discontent. Andrea and Jodie watched Reality Bites. Written by Helen Childress and directed by Ben Stiller, it's the 1994 Gen X anthem that follows a group of post-college friends trying to figure out life, love, and how to afford rent in Houston. We dig into Gen X authenticity, that killer soundtrack, and the irony (we know it when we see it) of a movie about not selling out being released by a major studio, jam-packed with product placement. We talk about the tension between Childress' original screenplay and the version that ended up on screen. We're pretty hard on Stiller. He deserves it.Next week, we're watching Dazed and Confused, written and directed by Richard Linklater. It's the last day of school in 1976, and not much happens. It's a hangout classic about freedom, boredom, and figuring out what comes next.Recommended reading: “Welcome to the World of the Emotionally Mature: Reality Bites at 25+” - Elisabeth Geier“Revisiting Seminal Gen X Film 'Reality Bites' 30 Years Later” - Sean BurnsIf you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now. This week, Andrea and Jodie are watching Party Girl. It's got Parker Posey at her most iconic, inspirational '90s fashion, and a soundtrack that still holds up. We're talking about the New York City club kid scene, the film's matter-of-fact diversity, and why it feels so good to see libraries treated with the respect they deserve.Next week, we're watching Reality Bites. It's a little more straight and a lot more white, but as a blueprint for how mainstream media defined Gen X, it offers a perfectly messy portrait of the chain-smoking, disillusioned 90s early adulthood experience. If you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now. Blake Lively just made two of the most aggressive hires of her career—and they're not your typical Hollywood fixers. Within a week, she brought in Matt Bruno, a powerhouse corporate litigator who doesn't just defend lawsuits—he dismantles them—and Nick Shapiro, a former CIA deputy chief of staff turned elite crisis operative. This isn't just about PR spin. This is high-level damage control, legal warfare, and a battle for power in Hollywood. So what are Lively and Ryan Reynolds really bracing for? And why does this look less like a Hollywood dispute and more like a corporate war room strategy? We break it all down.Support the showSUBSCRIBE TO PREMIUM ON PATREON HERE OR APPLE PODCASTS HERE - FOR EXCLUSIVE RHOBH AND NEW SOUTHERN CHARM RECAPS AND MORE! Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHThe movie kicks off with a bad guy stealing some diamonds and then breaking a window. They steal some more jewelry and break another window. They find another box of goodies and break yet another window. Finally, they leave. While that's happening, we see that Hannah is baking a pie! She finds out that Connie Mack wants to come and film in her bakery! CONNIE MACK! She's a legend. And it gets better—they want Hannah to help! Obviously, Norman is around because he's in love with her, and he doesn't even know who Connie Mack is, but he's still impressed. Chad comes by to pick up some muffins for the crew and to see Hannah's face.Chad is a busy bee working on this burglary case. He's convinced he has the right guy but needs more evidence that the same person is involved in 13 break-ins.It's time for filming—Connie shows up and she's a bit of a diva. Hannah immediately catches on to the fact that Connie doesn't really know how to cook. Hannah tries to correct her at one point, which Connie doesn't appreciate, and pours a pie on her head. The producer apologizes to her afterward and confirms that Connie doesn't know how to cook. He asks her to go along with it for one more day. The next day, Hannah finds the producer, Hunt, dead. We see on his computer he was reading an article about the burglar—Chassley—that Chad was investigating.Obviously, Hannah begins to investigate herself. She catches Connie on the street, and it seems like she has a jaw problem she didn't have before. And no one can get in touch with Hunt's wife. Suspicious. She finds out that Hunt moved the booking to their town after finding out about the court case of Chassley, and that's what he was looking at on his computer. Sure is odd.As she's updating Chad on what she's found, a car comes speeding toward them and he has to pull her out of the way. What gives?!They decide they're going to set a trap by announcing very loudly that Hannah's mom is going out of town and is leaving all her expensive jewelry behind! It works. They catch the bad guy. Turns out it's Connie's assistant, who is Chassley's dad. She was going to stage a break-in that looked exactly like Chassley's to keep him from being convicted of all 13 break-ins. She killed Hunt because Hunt knew about what she was planning. Luckily, Chad calls her, figures out that she's in trouble, and comes to save the day.

In “Scott Luck Stories”, he ventures into the realm of comic short stories, showcasing his unique blend of wry humor and journalistic acumen. As the managing editor of “The Blue Rose Magazine” and co-founder of Fayetteville Mafia Press, Ryan has solidified his position as a raw and honest pop culture storyteller. He is the co-host of “Tiger Talk” on YouTube which follows the Massillon Tigers high school football team. He also co-wrote a book about the Tigers' state championship win in 2023 called “Massillon Against the World.” With all this, it still burns him that he never won Employee of the Month at Video Time where he learned to love film by stealing VHS tapes and movie posters. It's just me this week, delivering a dispatch that feels more like a voice note to a friend than a typical interview. I centered this around how the so-called "irony epidemic" has shaped the way I work, write, and share my projects in a culture that often resists earnestness. I reflect on the push/pull between sincerity and detachment, the ways we seek validation both online and offline, and how group chats, community, and connection factor into it all. Plus, why being “goo prone” might just be the most human thing of all.Show notes:- Find me on IG: @letitouttt + @katiedalebout | Substack- Magic Mind: get up to 48% off your first subscription or 20% off one-time purchases with code: LETITOUT- Submit a question for our q&a episode: write them here OR record here and we'll play it on the episode! Closing out the week on a theme...reality. There's what you're told Kamala Harris is and the state of this race is. Then there is empirical data to prove what is real. They don't match. From Harris' "surge" after a debate "victory" to young people flocking with excitement to her campaign to the Attorney General publicly proclaiming their commitment to blind, apolitical justice, and of course - the economic and physical security of the country. From Tim Pool's "Timcast" - co-host Hanna Claire Brimelow says "BRAT Summer" is officially over. Former acting Attorney General Matthew Whittaker says it's no accident yesterday Merrick Garland and former AG Alberto Gonzalez made big public speeches about "threats to democracy." And pro-athletes are navigating the waters of presidential politics. And more headlines you should hear but we're not going to list here because you likely don't read this far, do you? -For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
