On Monday's Memorial Day edition of Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, military wife Megan B. Brown admits she honestly did not know what she signed up for when she fell in love with a military man and had visions of adventure. In much the same way, when we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, most of us have no idea what we are “signing up for.” We were probably so overwhelmed by His love; we weren’t necessarily focused on the sacrifices that would follow. Megan helps us see that we’re right where we’re supposed to be—chosen for this specific time and place. Together, we’ll see what it means to follow Jesus, love people, and live on mission. There are a lot of people who only know enough about God to be mad at Him. “What would it look like to be made with God?” That’s the question Megan B. Brown asked as she shared Psalm 23 for the very first time with another military spouse. She went on to share Psalm 22. You’ll have to listen to this episode to hear what happened but I’ve just got to say, people are hungry for truth and love! Megan Brown, is a seasoned military spouse, mother, Bible teacher, and military missionary. She’s also the author of Know What You Signed Up For. You’re gonna love her! Also in today’s episode Shawna says, “The Holy Spirit isn’t weird, people are weird” as she shares about the normal activity of the Holy Spirit in our every day lives. Perry breaks down the Ben Affleck and Matt Damon film Air and what it says about American culture. And they have a conversation about Jesus being the light when all other lights go out. Enjoy! A pot of coffee, a Facebook post, and a bulky Bible--how a movement started with military spouses. Megan B. Brown, a seasoned military spouse, bible teacher, and military missionary explains living out the Great Commission. As an atheist married to a military man, God gently led Brown to Himself, but growing in Christ was challenging. She found it hard to “fit in” at church, and not knowing how to pray or understand scripture made for a very lonely time. Yet through her isolation, she found a Jesus who was there when no one else was. Brown discovered a distinct calling on military spouses; a group perfectly suited to live out the Great Commission as their families already “go into all the world”. God desires that we trust Him and join His fierce pursuit for the hearts of men. Are you ready to put on the coffee and see where He takes you? Stephanie welcomes Megan B. Brown, founder and executive director of MilSpo Co (Military Spouse Coalition), a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing Christ with the military communities worldwide. Megan shares her own story, her heart, and passion for building the Kingdom of God in original, powerful ways. This conversation will stretch, inspire, and challenge you! Megan says, "MilSpo Co. is a place where people can meet Jesus,  engage in life-giving community, and everyone is welcome. We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts and use them for God's glory." MilSpo Co. began with a commitment to see military spouses gain  access points to the gospel through getting connected, building a faith community, and to develop the skill of walking out their faith as they moved from place to place. Nearly a decade ago, a handful of military spouses began gathering around the Word of God in a military housing neighborhood. Their goal was simple: to know God and learn how to make Him known. The result was immense. These women were learning how to create friendships, building relationships inside of their local church, and starting to see how God would use their lifestyles to serve Him as missionaries. MilSpo Co.'s Founder, Megan Brown, began leading small and intimate Bible studies from her living room. What began with six women at Keesler AFB on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi has now become a ground movement. Women all over the globe are now meeting in homes, serving inside of the church, and using their gifts for the glory of God.  The next step in mission for MilSpo Co. is to continue to raise up leaders in the military spouse space. By raising up indigenous leaders in the military spouse community who are directly connected to the local church, women in this space can lead others into meaningful connections, biblical community in the family of God, and facilitate their discipleship toward the task of fulfilling the Great Commission.  ABOUT MILSPOCO Megan is a seasoned military spouse, mother of four, and military missionary. Graduating from Moody Bible Institute with a Bachelor's of Science in Ministry Leadership with a focus in Ministry to Women, she is passionate about leading women to pursue fulfilling The Great Commission.  MilSpo Co. exists to intentionally disciple the U.S. Armed Forces through recruiting, raising up, and releasing an army of military spouses as paid and prepared vocational missionaries. These women are sent in partnership with the local church, collaborate with civilian communities for evangelism, and are ready to serve God at operational military installations worldwide.   Find Megan at http://milspoco.com/ DISCOVER THE GOSPEL SPICE MINISTRIES The Gospel Spice Podcast is part of a larger range of tools given to you by Gospel Spice Ministries. What to consider if you want to be an author Welcome to Episode 2 of Season 3! This week, AMSE founders Flossie Hall and Moni Jefferson talk to seasoned military spouse and author Megan B. Brown as she shares her knowledge and experience about the process of content creation, publishing, and concept development to becoming an author.  Here are some other things you'll hear about on the podcast:  The difference between a writer and someone who wants to be a writer is 6 hours and 6,000 words.  Know what you're going to write about and why: The places that have caused you the most pain The areas that just peeve you off Remember, writing is a lifetime of cross-country running. It's a marathon.   Anything you want to write about deserves the time, effort, and nurturing - a very straightforward concept.  Anything you want to write about should be a lesson twice learned: it's a lesson you have sat with and learned from, and a lesson that you can teach it to others.  Megan says if you don't have an AMSE membership, get one now! The things I'm telling you to do are in the Membership Toolkit. We don't write for ourselves; we write as a gift of love to the reader.  The most important thing - understand what your reader needs, not what you want.  Try to attend writer's conferences for your own education and exposure. Four things to have on hand at a conference: A well-produced one-sheet A developed concept A polished 30-second elevator pitch A flawless proposal Stay away from absolute truths and blanket statements. Don't write about what's popular; write about what you have authority in.  Mentoring is one of the greatest gifts you can give in the military spouse community. Unfortunately, our stories are not in the books, and we need to change the narrative.  Megan's new book/bible study is Summoned: Answering a Call to the Impossible. I remember having a conversation with a pastor from my home church a few years ago. We were discussing the idea of living with purpose. The phrase “living with purpose,” or “walking out your purpose,” is one that I hear often in women's ministry. I was frustrated because church people, particularly women, were obsessed with “finding their purpose.” Women would constantly struggle with what God was calling them to do or be. They would spend hours scouring self-help books or listening to podcasts by women who apparently had figured it out. He said something that helped me clarify how to respond to these women who were steeped in concepts like destiny. He said, “God rarely reveals His unknown will to those who are not already walking in His known will.” _ Adapted from Summoned: Answering a Call to the Impossible: An 8 Week Study of Esther by Megan B.
