We are extremely honored and excited to welcome today's guest, Lindsay Dahl, Beautycounter's SVP, Social Mission where she leads the safety, sustainability, advocacy and giving teams. A nationally recognized leader, Lindsay has been working for over 15 years to remove toxic chemicals from the products we use every day. Working at the intersection of activism, product safety, and sustainability, Lindsay takes a comprehensive approach to integrating social impact into everything at Beautycounter. Prior to joining the Beautycounter team, Lindsay spearheaded the passage of more than a dozen health protective laws at the state and federal levels, including the nation's first ban on the toxic chemical BPA from baby bottles and other landmark laws on chemicals like flame retardants, mercury, and phthalates. In addition, Lindsay created a nationally acclaimed program—Mind the Store—to encourage top retailers to remove toxic chemicals from products. This initiative led to comprehensive health protective policies from Fortune 500 companies such as Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, The Home Depot and Best Buy. In addition to working for Beautycounter, LIndsay is an activist and writer who isn't satisfied with the status quo. She enjoys spending time writing on topics that are near and dear to her heart including, environmental wins, science-based consumer safety guides, safer beauty products, hot yoga tips, how to find safer products for your home, clean living and stories about people being agents of change. This conversation is packed with so much insight around all things clean beauty and personal care products and Beautycounter's substantial role in the clean beauty movement. You'll learn about the evolution of the government's role with the ingredients that company's use in their products and the differences between regulation in the U.S. versus other countries and Beautycounter's very high level of standards in all of their products. Lindsay is extremely knowledgeable and shares the science backed research that may surprise you about certain ingredients that are in everyday products you put on your skin. Beautycounter's mission to educate the everyday consumer about how they can find safer products in addition to advocating for safer laws to protect everyone from the harmful chemicals. We know this topic can be overwhelming and today's conversation with Lindsay will really help you to break down the confusion that exists about the clean beauty movement and what sets Beautycounter apart from most other companies, including their activism role in Washington and their focus on sustainability. Lindsay also shares her top tips on how you can begin to make small changes to clean up the products that you and your family use everyday and some of the tools and resources that you can access to start making small changes today. We are super excited to introduce today's guest, Marley Comito. Marley graduated this past May from Hopkins High School in Minneapolis, MN and she will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall as a Journalism major. Marley is a writer, blogger, vlogger and a podcast host for a podcast called, Spill the Soup. We had a heartfelt and serious conversation with Marley tackling some of the issues that teens face today including: the college admissions process, struggles during the pandemic, social media usage, teenage pressures and how to stay healthy both mentally and physically. Marley is wise beyond her years and she is a breath of fresh air. We so enjoyed chatting with her, and as parents, we think this is a must listen episode for both parents and children to hear from the teenage perspective. We are super excited to introduce today's guest, MaryEllen Reider, who is the co-founder and director of Yarlap®, the wellness device to treat urinary incontinence and improve sexual performance and experience through muscle control. MaryEllen and her dad have emerged as a leading voice in the pelvic floor and sex tech wellness space. She strives to empower women through their pelvic floor muscles because incontinence significantly impacts quality of life. It is widespread among women of all ages but It is a condition many find too personal to disclose. MaryEllen shares how the physical discomfort and disruption may carry the additional emotional burden of shame and embarrassment that often occurs with leaks. That is where the Yarlap® come in to solve this common problem – it stops the cause of the leaks and is FDA Cleared to help you maintain urinal control! Plus, treating the cause is significantly cheaper than diapers and much more environmentally responsible. Hey ladies out there? Did you know that it's not normal to pee when you laugh? We know many people where this is unfortunately a common occurrence and one that most just chalk up to childbirth. We had so much fun learning about our very important pelvic floor muscles. In today's episode you'll learn about the amazing device that MaryEllen and her dad created, which does the exercises for you to tighten and control your pelvic floor muscles. We also discuss what the pelvic floor is, why it is so important for overall health, and that with the appropriate tools and techniques it is possible to achieve better orgasms, tone and control. What is often surprising to hear is that weakening starts in your 20's. By the time we are in our 30's, those muscles might be atrophied, causing self-taught pelvic floor exercises (like Kegels) to be impossible to do. Keeping those muscles toned and healthy are key to maintaining bladder control and intimacy wellness. This episode is a must listen to learn more about how you can prevent weakening in the pelvic floor and help regain the muscle strength you may have lost to live your best life. This is an unfiltered conversation so make sure that you don't have young children in the room, just pop in a pair of headphones :). MaryEllen has a special offer for our listeners. We are thrilled to welcome Christian Rasmussen, co-founder of MN Nice Botanicals. Born and raised in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities, Christian Rasmussen met his co-founder Tad in school. After completing a year of college for physics in 2010, Christian decided he wanted to pursue a different path, and dropped out to dive into the Real Estate Industry. By 2014 he had successfully completed his first three property flips and decided to expand into rental properties. By 2017 Christian had amassed five rental properties from the initial start-up capital he used to flip his first home, three of which were purchased with zero money down, using creative financing strategies and an intense focus and dedication (they don't call it ‘hard' money for no reason!). Christian got married in 2018 and spent the rest of the year travelling. In 2019, Tad and Christian began MN Nice Botanicals to provide affordable, high quality CBD products for all. Christian says, "We are just a couple of nice Minnesotans trying to show the world what MN Nice is all about. Simply put, we thought CBD was too expensive, so in 2019 we decided to do something about it. After a year of diligent research on CBD and its market, we discovered a large price difference between wholesale and retail prices. We felt that unreasonably high prices kept the consumer market from expanding and hindered many from being able to use CBD as a regular supplement. In an effort to make CBD products more affordable and available to more customers, we offer our products at the lowest prices we can afford." What makes MN Nice Botanicals stand out from their competition? All of their CBD is vetted from hemp grown in the USA, all of their products are handcrafted in small batches with high quality ingredients in MN and their CBD is tested for heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents and other impurities. Additionally, all their products are tested to ensure cannabinoid content as quality control is of the utmost priority to them. MN Nice Botanicals also donates 5% of their profits to MN based charities. We had so much fun talking with Christian and learning about CBD, what it is, how it works and why it gets a bad rap. He also shares a few stories on how CBD has helped people. MN Nice Botanicals has a special offer for our listeners. Use the code: theartoflivingwell at checkout for 10% off your order. We are thrilled to welcome Sara Whicher and Marcy Townsend the co-founders of Chisel Architecture. The team at Chisel provides architectural custom design and a custom process. In their award-winning work while with Midwest-based design firms, eight years together at two firms and seven years at four additional firms, they've acquired an incredible breadth of expertise. They have a track record of proven success as lead designers and project managers with honed technical skills in material specs, drafting, construction documentation; and intuitive personal skills in client and consultant management and communications. Marcy and Sara are dedicated client advocates from start to finish. This means that their problem-solving skill sets are always engaged and they shape conversations around the intimacy of design. It means they fully understand the symbiotic relationships between the homeowner who will live in and love their space, the talented craftspeople who contribute exquisite detail, agile builders who modify with flexibility, and lead architects and designers who orchestrate the entire project to make it sing. Chisel Architecture created a unique process they coined The Pattern of Life, which really sets their firm apart. This three step process brings out their clients preferences, routines and ways of being every day so that they can live well. We had so much fun talking with Sara and Marcy and learning about the very personalized process, called Pattern of Life, that they go through with all of their clients. We learned that what sets Chisel Architecture apart is how they really listen to their clients, they watch people's body language and ask questions so that their clients get the results they want to enjoy their life in the new space. We can't wait for you to experience how enjoyable, fun and fulfilling the architectural and design process can be for a homeowner, whether it's a new home or a smaller remodel. Even if you're not looking to embark on a project right now, you will learn so much from this conversation as Sara and Marcy share their tips for anyone who is thinking about making even the smallest change to their space. Chisel architecture has a special offer for our listeners. Simply email hello@chiselarch.com and mention this podcast to receive $50 off your two-hour consultation. Consultations must be booked by June 30th to take advantage of this offer. At the time we recorded this episode, Chisel Architecture was working toward having the home in mentioned in the podcast conversation on the Artisan Tour. The home is no longer on the Artisan Tour, however, the good news is that this same home will be on the 2021 Midwest Home Luxury Home Tour, which runs July 30- August 1, August 6-8 and August 13-15 (noon-6pm each day). The home is located at 5104 Thotland Road, Golden Valley, MN. Hydrocarbon-Bridged Complexes, XXX. - Nucleophilic Addition of Carbonylmetallates to Cationic Vinyl, Diene, Dienyl and Triene Complexes of Iron, Ruthenium and Cobalt: Di-, Tri-, Tetra- and Pentametallic Complexes with ,- and ,-Hydrocarbon Bridges[Note ][Herrn Professor Ekkehard Lindner zum 60. Geburtstag gewidmet.] The reactions of [Re(CO)5]-, [Ru(CO)2Cp]-, and [Os(CO)4]2- with [Cp2(OC)2Fe2(-CO)(-1:2-CH=CH2)]+, [Cp*Ru(2:4-1,3,7-octatriene)]+, [(OC)Fe(4-diene)(5-cycloheptadienyl)]+, and [CpCo(5-cyclodienyl)]+ give the nucleophilic adducts whereas with [Mn(CO)5]-, [W(CO)3Cp]-, and [Fe(CO)2Cp]- formation of the corresponding C-C coupling products and of the metal-metal-bonded dimers is observed. The structures of Cp*Ru(-1:2:3-1,5-octadienyl)Re(CO)5 (4), [Cp* Ru(-1:2:3-1,5-octadienyl)]2Os(CO)4 (6), and of (OC)-Fe(4-1,3-cyclohexadiene) (-1:4-1,3-cycloheptadiene)Re(CO)5 (9) have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
[C5Cl3(SR)2]Mn(CO)3 (R = Me, Ph) dargestellt. Auch Cymantrenyl-Selenoether [C5Cl5−n(SeR)n]Mn(CO)3 (7–10) (R = Me, n = 1, 2, 3; R = Ph, n = 2) konnten erhalten werden.
[C5Cl4Br]Mn(CO)3 reacts with butyllithium and Mn(CO)5Br or Au(PPh3)Cl to give the bimetallic cyclopentadienyl-bridged complexes [C5Cl4Mn(CO)5]Mn(CO)3 (1) and [C5Cl4Au(PPh3)]Mn(CO)3 (2), respectively. The molecular structures of 1 and 2 show no or very weak interactions between the metal centers. 1 reacts with BuLi and Au(PPh3)Cl in a formal substitution reaction to give 2. PPh3 replaces one CO ligand in 1 to yield [C5Cl4[Mn(CO)4(PPh3)]]Mn(CO)3 (3).
Coordination Chemistry of Perhalogenated Cyclopentadienes and Alkynes, XV[1]. - Systematic Generation of Fivefold Ring-Silylated Cyclopentadienyl Manganese Complexes from [C5Br5]Mn(CO)3. Molecular Structure of [C5Br3(SiMe3)2]Mn(CO)3 [C5Br5]Mn(CO)3 reacts in a sequence of alternate bromine-lithium exchange reactions and electrophilic silylations by SiMe3Cl or SiMe3OSO2CF3 to give [C5Br5-n(SiMe3)n]Mn(CO)3, where n = 1 (1), 2 (2), or 3 (3). A crystal structure determination of 2 shows the two silyl substituents in the relative 1,3-orientation. Addition of one or two equivalents of BuLi and SiMe2HCl to a solution of 3 yields [C5Br2-n(SiMe3)3-(SiMe2H)n]Mn(CO)3 with n = 1 (4) and 2 (5), respectively. If 1 is treated twice with 2 eq. of BuLi and then 2 eq. of SiMe2HCl, a further pentasilylated compound, [C5(SiMe3)(SiMe2H)4]-Mn(CO)3 (6), is obtained. In situ chlorination of [C5(SiMe2H)5]Mn(CO)3 or 6 with PdCl2, followed by addition of MeMgCl, yields after chromatography an inseparable mixture of [C5(SiMe3)4X]Mn(CO)3 compounds, where X = H (7a), SiMe2H (7b), and SiMe3 (7c).
Coordination Chemistry of Perhalogenated Cyclopentadienes and Alkynes, X[1]. - Synthesis and Molecular Structure of a Cyclopentadienyl-1,3-dithiol Complex, [C5Cl3(SH)2]Mn(CO)3 The reaction of [C5Cl4Li]Mn(CO)3 with elemental sulfur leads to [C5Cl4SLi]Mn(CO)3 (1), which is easily oxidized by air to the disulfide (OC)3Mn[C5Cl4S-SCl4C5]Mn(CO)3 (2). Addition of one equivalent of BuLi, followed by an excess of S8 produces the dithiolate [C5Cl3(SLi)2]Mn(CO)3 (3), which yields the dithiol [C5Cl3(SH)2]Mn(CO)3 (5) upon hydrolysis. The molecular structures of 2 and 5 have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
Coordination Chemistry of rr-Bonded Cyclopentadienyl Chalcogeno Ethers, I. - Chelate Complexes of Pentakis(methylthio)cymantrene with Metal Carbonyls [C5(SMe)5]Mn(CO)3 (1) reacts with W(CO)5(THF), Mo(CO)4(C7H8), Cr(CO)3(NCMe)3, and Re(CO)4(-C3H5)/HBF4 to yield the monochelate complexes [[C5(SMe)5]Mn(C0)3][M(CO)4] (M = W: 2; M = Mo: 3) and the dichelate complexes [[C5(SMe)5]Mn(CO)3][M(C0)4]2 (M = W: 4; M = Cr: 5; M = Re BFF4 : 6). The reaction with Mo(CO)3(p-xylene) in THF leads via unstable intermediates, which contain coordinated THF, to a mixture of 3 and [[C5(SMe)5]Mn(CO)3][Mo(CO)4]2 (7). The structures of 3 and 4 in the crystal have been determined by X-ray diffraction methods.
