I am delighted to have my good friend, Kelli Weber, with us for the second part of a two-part series about Olive Tree People and their fantastic products. Kelli introduced me to Beautycounter about ten years ago, and last year, she brought Olive Tree People to my attention. Today, in Part 2, we dive into the details of certain Olive Tree products, and Kelli walks us through a great skincare routine using those products. Please listen to Part 1 first if you have not yet done so. Serum & Moisturizer Tips The hyaluronic acid in F86 works best on damp skin to lock in moisture Only layer the F63 oil-based serum after using a water-based serum to seal in hydration Use a lightweight moisturizer for oilier skin, and a richer moisturizer for dry or mature skin Kelli Weber's Bio: Kelli Weber is a wife, mother, and Child of God! A Jesus-loving free spirit with a heart to share knowledge she has learned (and unlearned) over the years.  Her wellness journey started with a simple swap of Mac & Cheese and J&J bath wash. Now, deep dive is her middle name, questioning everything in all facets of life, and helping others win in spaces that mean most to them is how she defines success.  Adding Olive Tree People to her resume last year was a decision that was a beautiful leap of faith. Kelli quickly went to the highest ranks within OTP, Black Olive Star, with hundreds sharing Bio Active Wellness.  Kelli wears many hats: mother, designer, mentor, friend, and advocate. She believes in creating layers of life. From wellness to designer, she has woven together all her favorite parts of life, from travel to art. She continues to peel back the layers of how God designed us to live & thrive while creating a foundation of freedom for her family. Her goal is building foundational, repeatable daily actions that compound in business, creativity & wellness, modeling the actions of creating a life outside of the box that society has designed.  In this episode: How oil and gel cleansers work together to remove makeup gently and deep clean the pores  Why skin prep, and layering serum before oil and oil before cream, is crucial for effective absorption  How to personalize your skincare routine by taking a quiz and consulting with a mentor for personalized product recommendations The benefits of using F86 hyaluronic acid to address dull or crepey skin. How pairing the F86 serum with the F63 cell-active oil serum targets hyperpigmentation and signs of aging   Why eye care must be layered  Use the La Dope and Oliveda product lines for seasonal and sensitive-skin options  How F59 can naturally relax facial muscles, soften lines, and extend Botox results The long-term value of cycling with F59 and F82  Relative Links for This Show: Use code COQ10 to get 10% off COQ10 Use CODE BERGAMOT to get 10% off Citrus Bergamot Try Halo (Salt) Therapy for respiratory and skin health. Join me for my next live video in the appLet's get into it. I've never done a live on Substack before, but I thought it would be fun and I've been wanting to do them more.So I'm going to just tell you about a few things that I got today.I went to Surdyks and it had been a while since I'd been there and I was glad to revisit them - on their 90th Anniversary! They are a local store in Minneapolis and I am a big fan and I bought some thingsthat I wanted to tell you about. The first one is a product that is made in Minnesota. It's called Pommeau and it is from Milk and Honey. And it is the most delicious like honey apple Brandy liqueur. And what I do with it is I will pair it with whiskey or with rum.So I might have like an ounce and a half of whiskey or an ounce and a half of rumand then an ounce of this and I have it on the rocks andAnd it's just a delightful after-dinnery type drink. So milk and honey, I was out of it.I was happy to see it was back on the stores. Here is a new product that I'm excited about.I got it because it's from Vietnam and I was just there, fun!Song Cai the name of the gin. They had three different kinds of these Vietnamese gins at SurdyksAnd I happened to chat with one of the folks there and they said this one was their favorite. So I have not tried it yet, but can you see how pretty the bottle is inside it?It just looks amazing. So I'm going to go ahead and give this a try.I think I'll, it's floral gins are kind of good with tonic or with club soda.So I'm excited about trying that.I will report back.Something that is not alcohol, but I do have two of those left too.It is Ryze Mushroom CoffeeThis is something that I'm nervous about. Now they say that mushrooms are super good for you.And I absolutely believe that, but Could this product replace like my love of coffee or is it just like another thingto give you more of a wellness supplement? There's 2000 milligrams of mushrooms in here, which is a lot.So what you do with it,and I haven't done it yet,is you apparently take a tablespoon of this and then eight to 10 ounces of hot orcold water and you can ice it if you want to or hot.from 9-11 on MyTalk 107.1 and Ill chat about it with Stephanie March So I'm going to do this in the morning tomorrow before my radio show. It's called Ryse and there's 30 servings in here. It's from Massachusetts and there's 15 calories in a tablespoon. So it's low cal, which is fine, but we'll have to see how I feel about the mushroom coffee.Okay.Also,I got this at Christmas time and Beauty Counter was, all the rageand I don't know all the things that happened, but it was like a woman started the company and then she enlisted all these peopleto sell it and it was a great product. Then someone bought it like an investment company and apparently trashed the company,This product in particular is a Beauty Counter Hydrating Body lotion and it'sbut somehow it's back. This product in particular is a hydrating lotion.Okay, at Surdyks today, they had a wine that is from Croatia. It is called Plavac Bura.It is made with Plavac Mali grapes. It is called Plavac Bura. And it is a very delicious red table wine. And I also noticed it at my friend Leslie's place, Sip Better WinesI got this at Surdyks - I have noticed this at Total Wine too. This is like a $19 bottle of wine and it is fantastic for the value. It is Croatian. You'll find it kind of in the weird section where sometimes the best wines are.But I would like you guys to try this.I just love this wine.Another wine and  I have only found this at Surdyks before.I'm going to be bringing it to a party tomorrow.a,drier fruitier kind of bubbly effervescent type of white, that's not like full on champagne. It's not probably like that, but just has a tiny bubble.A Gruner Vertliner is a good wine for you to try.And this is from Austria, Weingut BrundlmayerI really like the wines that they have from Austria at SurdyksBut when I hear about organics, it makes me happy. So this is something that you would have with like a fish,Or if you're someone that likes a Sauvignon Blanc, but you just want to try something a little bit different,I'd highly recommend this. And then last but not least, La Croix.Okay, right.Everybody loves a good La Croix.I don't really love like the weird little flavors of some of these soda things, but I do like this Limoncello La Croix. It has like a vanilla taste almost to it and a little hint of lemon. It is still no calorie, so it's nothing, but it has some weird sweetener stuff in it.Let's face facts. They put chemicals in these things.I don't know why, but it tastes good.So this is the LaCroix. What I like to do actually, and that's here,is I take one of these cans and a plain can so that it tempers down the flavoring alittle bit, but it still tastes good. And then last but not least, I was on Jason's show today and this darling couple.I ran out of there because I had a meeting. And when I came back, they had left this on my bag of my Jason show things. And it is says taste buds on there. It is adorable, a little embroidered tea towel. As you know, I did a textile, a class at textile center and it was super fun. They have really great classes there. If you are a Minnesota person and you want toget your needling skills going. So you guys, that's it.My first live on Substack.I would like to do more.I'm also considering like maybe another format where I talk with someone else. But if this is something that you liked or you would like to see more of,I could even do like cooking things that are live.I just decided I would try it today since I had the good hair and I was alone withjust little Stanley here tonight. For dinner,we're going to be having the spring roll in a bowl that I made on Jason's showtoday that I marinated some carrots in a fish sauce that I put on my spring roll ina bowl, and it made the entire Fox Studio smell like stinky fish. But it's delicious, and that's what I'm going to be having for dinner tonight with a glass of this white...that I'll be having. And then in the morning, I'm going to try the mushroom coffee so you can tune in.We'll probably talk about it during the top two an hour or two, which is at 10.05 exactly. And if you want to hear what I thought about the mushroom coffee, feel free to tune in tomorrow.Otherwise, have a great weekend. It's supposed to be super nice.I'm very excited about that.I am going to be sitting with my seed catalogs.Planning for some of my seeds because I've got to get things planted. And if you follow along, you know that I garden in a very cold northern place that I only have about 50 to60 days with the seeds to get them to do anything. So I'm going to be getting my seeds going in the next couple of weeks. If you have any early plants like early tomatoes that you recommend or anythingthat you've tried and you want to pass that along,I'm always open to new gardening ideas.Thank you for being here.Thank you for following along on Substack.I started my Substack about a year and a half ago.It is just a joy.I love it.I love spending Sunday mornings writing it.I think about all of your faces and like what recipes I want to share. And it really just gives me joy.So thanks for following along.I hope that you guys have a great night and we'll try and do Substacks again if you like it.Thanks.Bye.Stephanie's Dish Newsletter is a reader-supported publication. Today on Integrative Cancer Solutions Dr. Karlfeldt's guest is Eliza Caplan. Eliza, growing up in a nature-loving, outdoorsy family with "hippy values," her words, she developed a deep connection to animals and the environment from an early age. This passion led her to become a vegetarian and later a vegan, driven by discomfort with factory farming and a desire to live as cleanly and kindly as possible. She raised her family with similar values, keeping chickens in the backyard for eggs when she introduced them back into her diet. Her journey toward health-conscious living expanded into other areas, like researching personal care products, which led to work with BeautyCounter, where she educated others on choosing safe and environmentally friendly products for nearly eight years. However, a few years ago, she started experiencing unusual physical symptoms while exercising, which she initially dismissed as dehydration or overexertion. But as these tingling sensations in her limbs persisted, she decided to seek medical advice, given her family history with neurological conditions like ALS, which her mother had suffered from. After consulting with a neurologist and undergoing an MRI, Eliza was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma brain tumor. Although this type of tumor is the slowest-growing among gliomas, she was still confronted with the reality of having brain cancer, a term that initially took her breath away as Eliza tried to balance protecting her kids from the weight of the diagnosis while coming to terms with it herself.Faced with this life-altering diagnosis, Eliza dove deep into research on both conventional and integrative cancer treatments, determined to fight it with a holistic approach. Surgery was the first step, during which doctors performed a craniotomy to remove as much of the tumor as possible. While the surgery was physically taxing, her recovery included walking, physical therapy, and even swimming to regain strength. Following surgery, she underwent 30 days of radiation and 10 months of chemotherapy. Despite the emotional and physical challenges, she integrated healthy practices into her routine—walking, a clean diet, intermittent fasting, and supplements from her integrative oncologist—determined to manage the cancer while maintaining a balanced, toxin-free lifestyle. In 2015, Eliza began her career as a wellness advocate, dedicated to helping people improve their health and lead balanced lives. Her work was driven by a passion for nutrition and a belief in the power of healthy living.Eliza's personal journey took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2017, prompting her to shift her focus to navigating her own health challenges.Despite these challenges, Eliza remained committed to her mission, using her experiences to inspire and educate others about resilience and wellness.----Connect with Eliza https://www.instagram.com/imperfectly_passionate/?hl=en----Grab my book A Better Way to Treat Cancer: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Preventing and Most Effectively Treating Our Biggest Health Threat - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CM1KKD9X?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860 ----Integrative Cancer Solutions was created to instill hope and empowerment. Other people have been where you are right now and have already done the research for you. Listen to their stories and journeys and apply what they learned to achieve similar outcomes as they have, cancer remission and an even more fullness of life than before the diagnosis. Guests will discuss what therapies, supplements, and practitioners they relied on to beat cancer. Once diagnosed, time is of the essence. Back in 2014, Lindsay Dahl's career trajectory took an unexpected turn. She'd spent a decade working at chemical safety- and environmental-focused nonprofits in Washington D.C. before she got an offer she couldn't refuse.  “I never thought I would go to the corporate side,” Dahl told Glossy. “If I'm being honest, I really liked being a part of the nonprofit community where I felt like I could be both challenging companies and also challenging those in power in government.” But then she got a call from Beautycounter. “I sat down and talked to Gregg [Renfrew], the founder and CEO, and she said, ‘Look, I know how to start companies. But I don't know how to do what you know how to do, which is … to use this business model to essentially see if you can do advocacy at the company level.' And this was before corporate activism was cool.” Dahl moved to the West Coast and served as Beautycounter's head of mission for seven years. In this new type of executive role, she created a blueprint for a company to have safe, ethically sourced and sustainable products, while also educating consumers about industry-wide issues and lobbying for better regulation and a more transparent industry.  Today, Dahl is bringing those learnings to another trailblazing company: Ritual, an 8-year-old brand of supplements founded on a mission of transparent sourcing, efficacy and purity. For the past two and a half years, she's served as chief impact officer where she oversees much of the mission-driven side of the business, including traceability and sustainability — which Ritual is known for — as well as advocacy, certifications, PR and community. Dahl joined the Glossy Beauty Podcast to discuss her career trajectory, the ins and outs of running a mission-driven company, and her hopes for the future at Beautycounter. She also speaks about the biggest issues plaguing the supplement space today, such as contamination, purity and unsubstantiated claims. And she shares the changes taking place at Ritual, including a recent shift from its DTC subscription model to an omnichannel strategy that includes retailers like Target and Whole Foods.

DC attorney Katlin McKelvie on forming MOCRA in the Senate and the 'black box' deadline coming next from FDA

In December, America's first big move to regulate the beauty industry in more than 80 years went into effect with the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulatory Act of 2022, best known as MoCRA. But it isn't until the end of this month that the industry will meet its first big deadline from the Food & Drug Administration.  By July 1, brands and manufacturers must provide a list of their products and where they were made to the FDA through its online portal called Cosmetics Direct. It's the first of many deadlines and requirements, some of which are still in flux, that will slowly reshape how the industry is regulated over the next few years.  For example, MoCRA will give the FDA new visibility into what's in beauty products and where they are manufactured. It also provides new authority to the FDA to issue mandatory product recalls and alert consumers to common allergens through mandatory warning labels. That's thanks, in part, to new visibility into fragrance ingredient lists, which had long been classified as intellectual property but must now be shared with the FDA. Previously, America's regulation was made up of small federal and state laws, which created a growing movement for better regulation. For example, brands like BeautyCounter spent years lobbying for better regulation on social media and on the hill in Washington, while brands like Henry Rose by Michelle Pfeiffer was created to offer an alternative to the under-regulated fragrance industry.   So how did this piece of legislation finally get passed? While you may not know attorney Katlin McKelvie by name, she is a Washington D.C.-based lawyer who was integral in the creation of MoCRA.  McKelvie has more than two decades of experience working in food and drug law, including 11 years at the FDA. She also served as the Deputy General Counsel of the United States' Department of Health and Human Services and as the Deputy Health Policy Director and Senior FDA Counsel to the Senate Committee on health, education, labor and pensions for chair Patty Murray. While working with Congress, she helped shape many pieces of legislation that have impacted us all, including MoCRA, before becoming a partner of a private D.C. firm called Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher. On today's episode of The Glossy Beauty Podcast, McKelvie shares the origin story for MoCRA, including the challenges and compromises made during its early days in the Senate. She also shares the challenges she suspects brands may face while navigating compliance, the requirements the FDA will release next and the changes consumers can expect in the coming years.

How often do we make a post on social media, showing off some cherished family photos or bragging on a child's accomplishments, only to revisit the post a handful of times or more to see how many likes or comments it received? Social media has conditioned us to be a "gold star" society and now we're addicted to sharing details of our lives that others will clap for...almost as validation that "hey, you're a great mom!"But on the flip side, we are constantly scrolling past the accomplishments of our friends (acquaintances) and their children. And sometimes this leaves us feeling like..."what am I doing wrong?"We have to bring ourselves back to reality. As moms, we want to highlight the good. We want to brag on our kids. And genuinely, we want to celebrate the accomplishments of our friends' children! But it doesn't tell the whole story and can leave us feeling less than. Sometimes we need a pep talk to remind us to do a reality check with ourselves. We are never alone on this journey and every mom has her share of struggles. Every child has their share of obstacles that their mama fights alongside them. Every family has growing pains and conflict every once in a while. Just because everyone is smiling and looks well put together in the family photo on your social media feed does NOT mean things are perfect and is not the standard you should judge yourself against. I hope you love today's pep talk, mama!Support the Show.Let's connect on social media! This week Jes is circling back to Part 2 of our Names of God series as we dig deeper into JEHOVAH SHAMMAH, The Lord is There. The first time we see this name in the Bible is in the book of Ezekiel, when the prophet receives a vision of God– Jehovah Shammah– in the New Jerusalem. At this point, the Isrealites have been in captivity in Babylon for 25 years. The temple and city was in ruins, and yet this vision from God was a reminder that God is still there in the city and with His people– even when they are in captivity because of their sin. This name is a powerful reminder to the ancient Israelites that God has NOT forsaken them, He was there with them, and He will be faithful to fulfill His promises. This name is also a powerful reminder to us that wherever we are, whatever our circumstance, God is there. First was about long term Imodium use. I am one of the six who truly appreciate what you do and listen all the time. I'm also an LMNT believer. This one is for my mother in law. She has controlled diabetes with diet and exercise for years. I would say they are Paleo on the lower end of protein. Now her A1C and fasting glucose are going up. Lots of walking and biking (weather permitting on the biking). Walking upwards of 7-10 miles a day. Could this be causing her body to produce more glucose for energy if protein is low or is her time up and leading towards insulin after all these years. Would weights be a benefit? Failed to mention she is in her low 70's and pretty small framed.   Junk food calories - can the junk be burned?  Caleb writes: Howdy Robére and Nikki, I'm an OG supporter that came across you all while I was working for one of the first Whole30 approved products, Tessemae's All Natural. I've been to a handful of PaleoFX events and my last one was a few years back where we connected at the LMNT booth and I just want to extend my appreciation for you two staying true to real food and nuanced information without turning into sh*thead snake oil salesman selling Beauty Counter or other garbage products like the majority of the old "real food influencers". I recently started ultra training and found that if I use whole foods for all my fuel I end up with a giant rock in my stomach and occasionally have to sprint off trail to test my below 90 degree wall sits on a tree to relieve myself. I've since gone towards gu's and swedish fish for my training and race fuel and the rest of my calories come from lean red meat, fruits, japanese sweet potatoes, avo oil, ghee, and trace amount of calories from a little slice of heaven called LMNT (plug). My digestion is great, my stool is strong, my skin is clear(ish. I always have trouble with acne), and my energy is solid. I just want to make sure I'm not causing any long term issues by crushing swedish fish, gu's, and chilled peanut m&ms during training and wondering if the fact that I'm currently a furnace for calories, if that furnace burns the "bad" stuff in processed foods along with the calories themselves. Stay salty, C   Weight Loss and Maintenance Jenn writes:  Hi Robb & Nikki, I want to start by first saying thank you for the entertaining and informative podcast as well as the delicious electrolytes! My question today is related to weight loss and how to potentially move that needle. Sorry for the long winded story and question! I'm a 34 year old female 5'7" and 175 pounds. I have a desk job, but I am active every day. I box/kickbox twice a week, crossfit once a week, swim laps once a week, practice yoga/mobilty several times a week, strength train at least once a week (aim for 2-3x) and I walk between 7 & 10,000 steps every day. I have in the past lost weight doing chronic cardio and extreme calorie restriction, and I have reached 155 pounds, which is where I feel the best (confidence and energy wise), but of course, once I stop the extreme dieting and exercise, the weight comes back on. At my heaviest I was 215 pounds but I am able to maintain 175 very easily now, but getting that last 15-20 pounds off and keeping them off is a major struggle. Peter Attia has said that your waist should be half of your height or less, so at 5'7", my waist should 33.5" and I'm at 37" and it will not budge. I eat a very clean diet, following Paul Saladino' animal based framework - beef, eggs, chicken, apples, blueberries, hard cheeses (parmesan and old cheddar), potato, carrots, squash, sauerkraut, mangos, bananas etc. and I follow Dr. Mindy Pelz's intermittent fasting framework. Chronometer shows that I'm eating between 140-160g of protein, 50-150g of carbs and the remaining calories are fat, and on average I'm eating between 1800-2000 calories a day and feel satiated. Taking my activities into account, I have between a 250 and 500 daily calorie deficit which means that I should be losing weight at a slow, steady pace, but I'm not. I'm wondering if my hormones are possibly causing a problem? I have regular bloodwork done and my thyroid levels are in normal range and my fasting glucose is 4.6 mmol/L and all other markers are normal. A problem is that I live in the socialist country of Canada and my doctor won't test my hormones because of my age and the fact that I don't have any health issues and I'm not obese (preventative healthcare does not exist). I've tried to look at CGM's and private hormone testing, and each of those will put be out of pocket between $500 and $1000, which is more than I can afford at the moment. I try not to overdo the fasting and exercise so as not to increase cortisol levels too much, I do have a stressful job and I purposefully take a break in the middle of the day to go for a walk or exercise to help keep those stress levels under control. I try to get outside for at least 30 minutes a day (not always possible due to the weather) and I get between 7.5 and 8 hours of sleep a night - usually good quality sleep but I do have the occasional restless night. The supplements I take besides LMNT are magnesium, Vitamin D and CBD. My only vices are coffee and tea, which I drink black or with a small amount of honey or coconut milk. I feel like I'm doing everything right, I feel healthy and have a great partner and life but I just can't seem to get the weight under control. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions that may help me to move the needle and keep the weight off for good? Or am I worrying over something that is not a big deal? I want to be as healthy and strong as I can be going into my mid-life years. Appreciate any thoughts you may have.
