Today's Message: Our Mess, His MessageJohn 21:15-19
Seeing God at Work in Our Mess
Proverbs 27:19 As water reflects the face, so one's life reflects the heart. Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength. John 11:17 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. John 11:20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. 1. You can SIT in your brokenness, or you can SURRENDER your brokenness to Jesus. ¼ tank EMPTY Meme Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. John 11:21-26 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” 2. You can let your frustrations get PENT up or you can VENT them to Jesus. Jesus is ATTRACTED to your AUTHENTICITY. Mark 9:22-24 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘If you can'?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” When you are broken, don't try to IMPRESS God, PRESS INTO God. John 11:33-36 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” John 11:38-39 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” John 11:43-44 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” 3. Only Jesus can transform something BROKEN into something BEAUTIFUL. The world specializes is BREAKING, God specializes in REBUILDING. Isaiah 61:2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, Isaiah 61:3 and to provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. KINTSUGI—Japanese art of putting BROKEN pottery pieces back together with GOLD. Our MESS in the hands of God becomes a MASTERPIECE. John 11:21-22 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/coastalchurch/message

Part 2 of the Easter series, "Suffering and Resurrection." When guests enter our home, we love to clean house. But the home they see isn't often reflective of how we normally live. More often, our homes can me messy, but that's not the picture we typically wish to show others. In the same way, even as Christians, our lives can be a mess and we don't want anyone to see. But as Jesus demonstrated so many times as he ministered to others on his way to the cross, God wants to enter the home of our hearts with a sign out front that says, "Welcome to Our Mess!" It is only Jesus who can clean the impurity of our hearts. But we must first recognize our need to be cleansed before inviting him to enter.
Season 2 Episode 30:Do you pay attention to your friends as much as your foes? Today’s Food for Thought comes from Edna St. Vincent Millay. Then we continue the conversation about protecting yourself from disease and what to do while you are quarantined. Our Mess into a Message is about a fear of speaking in front of crowds.
