We generally hear the word “apocalypse” used in histrionic or fundamentalist ways, but Dr Catherine Keller joins the podcast to affirm the hope of a theology that calls us to action. Reading the book of Revelation not as prophecy of disaster but as an “unveiling” can recall us to a sense of our responsibility in our current global crisis. In this conversation, Catherine reclaims the role of the prophet as someone who sees clearly to tell us that we can do something to change our path, affirming our role as co-creators with God and agents of hopeful possibility. Catherine Keller is a professor in Constructive Theology at the Theological School of Drew University and author of many books. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As we finish out this series, Joshua walks us through an overview timeline that covers what happens from the moment Jesus returns and explore what lay beyond it. Through it, we see the end of the story really is not the End of the World but rather the beginning of its greatest chapter yet.

Episode 45: The "mark of the beast", the "antichrist", the "rapture"; these are terms associated with a relatively recent, and unfortunately influential way of reading ancient scriptural texts. So where do these ideas come from, what is the problem with them, and what are some alternative interpretations that might be more helpful to us? This episode pulls apart some of the assumptions that sit behind "end-times" thinking, including the impact on geopolitical politics and conflict (especially in the Middle East). Rather than predicting events thousands of years into the future, we find that the authors of Daniel & Revelation were speaking in subversive ways about how to live under oppressive empires. The way of Jesus was seen to be a non-violent alternative to the temptation to participate in the dominating, colonising and violent actions of those with power.
Matt is finishing our series on the book of revelation, looking at Revelation 21-22.

Anyone who has been around for an extended amount of time knows that there are some things that will make us feel like it's the end of the world. It may be the conclusion of a relationship, the death of a loved one, or a tragedy in the work place. This Keep it Simple series episode encourages you to be thankful for the things that are going right, that way you don't focus on what's wrong that will make you feel like it is the end of your world. We hope this tip helps!

In the year 2020, there has been a lot of uncertainty, frustration, and fear which has led a lot of people to conclude that the end must be near. This episode talks about how this trend has been going on for quite some time and how it might not be helpful to cling to a doomsday scenario if we actually want to help in the process of positive change.

It’s the premiere of season 9, and the world probably isn’t ending, even if it feels like it is. We dive into six trivia questions about failed apocalyptic predictions, because we could all use a reminder that the world has kept spinning so far, and it probably will this time, too. We also chat early American history, psychology, and one of the nuttiest people on TV right now.

Adam Gemili is a professional British sprinter. Adam is and has been the fastest Team GB sprinter over the last 8 years. He won gold at the junior athletic championships in Barcelona in 2012 in the 100m - before competiting at his first Olympics at London 2012 after training as a sprinter for only 4 months! It’s an incredible achievement where he did himself proud, finishing third in the semi final narrowly missing out in a place in the final with a time of 10.06s. He continued to develop his speed and style and also raced in 200m - he quickly found success winning the silver medal at the 2014 commonwealth games beaten just by Kemar bailey- Cole of Jamaica - and in 2015 back to the 100m Adam became the 100th man ever in history to break the 10 second barrier - clocking a time of 9.97s. He then reached the 200m final at Rio 2016 and had heartbreak when three sprinters crossed the line together and the photo finish showed Adam Missed out for the Olympic bronze medal by 6thousanths of a second! But He then went on to win gold in the 4 x 100m relay in the 2017 world championships and silver in the 2019 world championships when the guys set a European record of 37.36 s. In this episode We talk all about what’s it’s been like to go on this journey as a sprinter and fly the flag for British sprinting - 100m and 200m events in what is certainly the most romantic event in athletics. We also talk about why he started working with prof Steven peters, Author of the book the chimp pradox, and how he helped he to build a stronger mindset. We discuss how he’s coping given the Olympics are cancelled this year due to covid - And of course, we talk about what it’s like to race and compete against usain bolt! Enjoy! It's not the end of the world. Negative prices on WTI on Monday (April 20) were a result of diminishing storage in the US, not a market meltdown. Besides, only one particular contract saw negative prices. Negative prices might come round again until we have a pickup in demand, or the US cuts its oil output. Also, it is unlikely petrol pumps will pay consumers money to fill their cars. (Recorded April 21)

The world is a chaotic mess and the Corona Virus Outbreak has increased the level of chaos and fear. However, peace and tranquility can be found in the midst of the storm. Perhaps the prophets of doom are not exactly right and the shutting down of churches for a while is not such a bad thing. Listen to consider the positives of all the chaos in the world. There will be an end to our epoch but we might not be at that exact end point quite yet. ------- Music provided by Machinimasound. Today, there's one takeaway from the episode I want you to have HOWEVER you react to the Coronavirus threat is LEGITIMATE. Your reaction to what's going on in the world is your own. Make no apology for it. In today's episode, I share my fears and discombobulation over the storm that we are weathering right now. I also explain how we might be able to better address panic buying. Because telling someone to just stop is NEVER. Going. To. Work. This isn't a happy-clappy kinda episode, but I want you to know that if you are in fear right now, that's perfectly okay. My anxiety is spiking BIG time: something I thought I'd got under control, but these are very different times. I've got your back. I am here for you. Letters to my kids: A suicide survivor's lessons and advice for life
Failures, failures and more failures; it's not the end of the world Music: “Just A Blip” by Andy G. CohenFrom the Free Music ArchiveReleased under a Creative Commons Attribution International License "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." -Winston Churchill-- When we do things; it either works or it doesn't. Similar to turning on-off the lights, it should be regarded as one of 2 possibilities. In that sense; failure gets a bad reputation as a one-time-shot and done, but really; it's part of everyday challenges. - In fact, failure is life’s great teacher; it’s nature’s chisel that chips away at all the excess, stripping down egos as it molds and shapes us through divine intentions.- All of us started off wanting to change the world. As young adults, we were all confident and a fair 'bit naive at the thought of doing what other people couldn't or can't. Like we were somehow special or better than our predecessors and the people who came before us. - Now some of us would be able to weather the challenges. These would be the tests to the conviction of our beliefs. Others would stumble. Most of us would compromise; and adjust our expectations and ourselves accordingly. Just as those whom came before us did. - When a baby is first learning to walk, she’s going to fall down many times. This, in fact, is failure. - Talk about some failures in life. Now some of these turned into failures, but what was learnt? At the end of the day, after all the money has been spent, every challenge has an outcome; it will be yourself whom would be the recipient of all the lessons. But what good are lessons if it is not heeded/learnt from? - Failures help us see the relevance of our decisions. And to see things from a different perspective. A failure simply means that the approach used wasn't good enough; or the chosen outcome is not what is perceived. - To that end, if we apply it correctly; a failure is simply part of a process of eliminating outcomes. If there is an endpoint; and the endpoint is worth it, then in theory, eliminating the other projected outcomes would eventually yield success. - More so from the failures though; is that we understand and accept that it's OK to fail in life. That none of us truly know the path that we have chosen to undertake, despite our best intentions. - So what can we learn from failures? That as soon as we accept that for all our confidence, we are not unique; nor are we special, we learn that it is far easier to succeed when you apply a collective knowledge based on the lessons learnt from others, and we would be able to grow much faster than on our reliance on ourselves alone.

In our Nature Walk this week, we feature round 4 of Who's that Bird, A-Frickin' Edition. When I write "round 4", I mean of course the 4th time we've done this segment, as opposed to a comment on the shape of the segment, which may or may not be cigar-shaped. It's not clear how many heads the segment has, but perhaps judging by the quality of our bird identity guesses, there are probably fewer than you might think. Anyway, play along! If you do, you might be surprised at how much is going on during a small stretch of bird song, especially in contrast with how little is going on during a small section of our podcast. If you want to start an argument about the shape of a goose's bill, email us (maskedman@limitedappeal.net). Theme music courtesy of Mugison and Ipecac Recordings.
This might be the final episode of the DC show as you know it, but the new, national "Swish Edition" talk show begins in just two weeks, so no fear. In this episode, Dale, Scott & Jason welcome a whole crew to the studio to gush over how great the past year has been. Join Ana, Karen, Destiny, Rudy and Phil for a conversation you'll never forget. Oh, and you'll never eat Strawberry Shortcake again.
