Have you ever noticed how easily motherhood can slide into a rhythm powered by guilt instead of joy? Many moms spend their days giving endlessly, rarely pausing to ask for what they need. In this episode, Whitney sits down with Heather Chauvin, author of Dying to Be a Good Mother, for a conversation about rewriting the rules of what it means to be a good mom. Chauvin shares how a stage-four cancer diagnosis forced her to listen to her own inner voice, a decisive moment that shifted everything. She explains why honoring personal needs isn't selfish, it's connective, and how it can deepen relationships with our children, work, and ourselves.   Chauvin also introduces the way she structures her days through her Energetic Time Management method, a system that helps moms build their schedules around the feelings they want to cultivate, not the obligations they're trying to survive. She breaks down how energy, not hours, should lead the calendar, and walks through her signature tool: Energetic Time Management, a practical framework for planning life in alignment, reducing mental load, and reclaiming self-connection without sacrificing impact.   Tune in now to learn how to bring more joy into motherhood without apology. For many women, this approach marks the turning point between burnout and brightness, proving that a well-resourced woman contributes differently, loves differently, and leads differently.   Here's what you can look forward to in this episode: The pressure and unrealistic expectations of mothers to self-sacrifice Considering your needs as an act of rebellion Removing guilt and pressure and feeling more alive Energetic Time Management - Figure out how you want to feel and allocate that time to how you want to feel Seeing challenges in parenting as an opportunity for growth and a deeper connection Reflection question to ponder: How would you parent or live if you didn't care what other people thought?   Join Back to Bright, a 1:1 personalized, four-week coaching experience where I'll guide you in creating sustainable rhythms of rest, joy, and self-connection.   Learn more about 1:1 coaching with Whitney - book a 15-minute Spark Session   Connect with Whitney: Instagram l Website l 5 Days to Less Stress, More Satisfaction l Tend to Your Soul Toolkit l 10 Soulful Journaling Prompts | Electric Ideas Podcast   Connect with Heather: Instagram | Website | Book: Dying to Be a Good Mother | Podcast: Emotionally Uncomfortable

Be honest, how many times have you pushed through exhaustion and told yourself you'll "catch up on sleep later?" This is something that is all too common. In this episode, Whitney sits down with sleep expert Terry Cralle to talk about why so many of us have been taught to ignore our bodies and treat sleep like it's optional. Terry shares how this mindset not only leaves us drained but also chips away at our mood, focus, and overall well-being.   Terry explains why sleep isn't just "nice to have," but a biological necessity that supports your brain, mood, memory, and long-term well-being. She shares the real science behind how sleep works, why you can't "make up for it" on weekends, and the simple habits that can dramatically improve your nightly rest. You'll hear simple changes that make nighttime rest easier, plus tips for tackling sleep debt, setting boundaries with your family around rest, and creating routines that feel realistic for busy women and moms.   Tune in now to hear Terry's wisdom and take the first step toward treating your sleep like the priority it truly is.   Here's what you can look forward to in this episode: Debunking the myth that less sleep equals more productivity How sleep helps with memory consolidation What happens to our bodies when we press the snooze button The cognitive clean-up process that happens when we sleep The best course of action to take when we don't get enough sleep Ways to avoid sleep debt when we know we may have to get less sleep Simple sleep habits you should start adopting   Join Back to Bright, a 1:1 personalized, four-week coaching experience where I'll guide you in creating sustainable rhythms of rest, joy, and self-connection.   Learn more about 1:1 coaching with Whitney - book a 15-minute Spark Session   Connect with Whitney: Instagram l Website l 5 Days to Less Stress, More Satisfaction l Tend to Your Soul Toolkit l 10 Soulful Journaling Prompts | Electric Ideas Podcast   Connect with Terry: Website | LinkedIn | Instagram | X | Book: Sleeping Your Way to the Top

In this conversation, Clayton Haas reflects on the turning points that shaped his leadership journey, from early lessons that challenged his assumptions to the moments that pushed him to grow. He shares how his approach evolved over time and what ultimately helped him become a leader who builds people, not just processes. Clayton shares an inspiring story of growing as a leader by learning to handle the hard parts of the job as we progress from individual contributor to front-line supervisor to middle and executive management. Leaders mature through a typical arch. Often they start by just doing things themselves, so they can avoid the harder and less fun parts of leading a team. Then they muster the resolve to do the hard things, but often with a cumulation of toil on the body and the spirit. The promise is to do the hard things better and with less stress, and to do them in a way the reduces how often you need to do them in the first place. It's good to be a leader who will handle the hard things, but that can come at a price. It's even better to be a leader who attracts and builds more people to handle the hard things. Clayton offers practical tips for how he made that personal transformation and has added years of peace and fulfilment to his life from it. Through this conversation, you'll learn how to move from overdoing to intentional action, reconnect with your body's signals, and bring vitality and joy back to your days.   If you've been feeling overextended, uninspired, or out of alignment, this episode will help you reclaim your energy and live with more clarity, curiosity, and ease.   Here's what you can look forward to in this episode: Wise effort vs. unwise effort Understanding genius energy When your genius can become a problem The positives and negatives of being a planner What it looks like to treat ourselves with wise action The “Nightmare Review” practice How environment can impact wise effort “One Eye In, One Eye Out” practice Reflection question to ponder: If there's no problem to be solved, what's left?   Learn more about 1:1 coaching with Whitney - book a 15-minute Spark Session   Connect with Whitney: Instagram l Website l 5 Days to Less Stress, More Satisfaction l Tend to Your Soul Toolkit l 10 Soulful Journaling Prompts | Electric Ideas Podcast   Connect with Dr. Hill: Instagram | Website | Book: Wise Effort | Podcast: The Wise Effort Show

What if boredom is the birthplace of your teen's creativity—and your sanity? And what if your own playfulness is the most powerful “parenting tool” you're not using? In this episode, internationally recognized play designer and RISD professor Cass Holman (creator of the RIGAMAJIG and author of Playful) shows us why free play—play that's freely chosen, personally directed, and intrinsically motivated—is essential for teens and adults. We talk about releasing judgment, embracing possibility, and reframing success (hint: it's not the perfect selfie at the summit). Cass explains why boredom matters, how “consuming” play (scrolling) differs from “generative” play (making), and offers practical ways moms can invite more low-pressure play into everyday life—without becoming their teen's cruise director. Guest bio paragraph:Cass Holman is an internationally recognized designer, educator, and play advocate. A longtime professor at the Rhode Island School of Design, Cass created RIGAMAJIG, a large-scale building kit used in thousands of schools and museums, and is featured on Netflix's Abstract: The Art of Design. Their new book, Playful: How Play Shifts Our Thinking, Inspires Connection, and Sparks Creativity, distills two decades of designing for play, leading workshops at places like Google, Disney, and Nike, and collaborating with child-development experts to help all of us—kids, teens, and adults—reconnect with true play. Three takeaways: Boredom is productive. Letting teens linger in boredom helps them notice what they actually need and choose self-directed, creative action. Reframe success. Swap “Did we reach the top?” for “Did we connect?”—and watch stress melt while curiosity rises. Model, don't manufacture. You don't need to entertain your teen; be playful yourself. Release judgment, embrace possibility, and let “good enough” be great. Learn more at: https://casholman.com/ Follow at https://www.instagram.com/casholman/ Learn more about your ad choices. In an effort to ease the burden on elementary and middle school students, some Chinese schools are embracing more vacations and fewer study aid workbooks. This new approach is designed to give young minds time to rest, recharge, and explore beyond the classroom. The critical question is whether these measures will genuinely reduce stress and enhance learning, or if parents and educators will find new ways to fill that freed time with academic pressures. Want less stress in love and more connection? Start by knowing your attachment style! In this snippet from Episode 201, Kelly sits down with relationship expert and best-selling author, Thais Gibson, to unpack attachment theory and how understanding your own style and the style of the people you care about can make relationships calmer and closer.  Thais explains the four main attachment styles (secure, anxious, avoidant, dismissive avoidant and fearful avoidant) and shows how early formed patterns can linger as unconscious “relational clutter” that shapes how we ask for needs and respond to closeness. You will be encouraged to think about your own attachment style and you will learn how knowing your style can help you bring calm during moments of conflict.  Plus, Thais and Kelly discuss a real conflict situation between two opposing styles to show how, by recognizing each person's needs, the situation can be alleviated and turned into connection. Be inspired to understand your attachment style and strengthen your connections with the people who matter most. Listen to the full discussion from Episode 201 here! When we think about improving our health, we often think about changing our diet, increasing how much we move, improving the quality of our sleep and lowering stress, but how many of us think about ‘working' on our vision? Every day, many of us experience symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, headaches or poor concentration - and never realise that our eyes might be playing a central role . This week, I'm delighted to welcome Dr Bryce Appelbaum, a pioneering neuro-optometrist who believes that vision is our most overlooked and underutilised tool for improving how we feel, think and function. Bryce is a board-certified Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and founder of MyVisionFirst , where he and his team combine vision therapy with principles from occupational therapy, physical therapy and holistic wellness. Bryce's expertise includes reorganising the visual brain after concussion, correcting developmental visual delays that interfere with reading and learning and enhancing visual skills to elevate athletic performance. In this incredible conversation, we discuss: Why eyesight and vision are not the same, and why most eye tests are missing a vital part of the picture How visual processing affects everything from focus and mood to movement, memory and resilience The hidden visual problems that are often left undiagnosed in both children and adults, and how these can impact learning, behaviour and emotional regulation The neurological impact of concussion and trauma on the visual system, and how it can be rehabilitated Why our screen habits are damaging not just our eyes but our brains - and how to reverse the effects The power of “vision therapy” to rewire the brain and transform quality of life Practical strategies to reduce digital eye strain and support visual health, even if you only have a few minutes a day Many of us don't realise just how much our vision influences how we think, perform. In a screen-heavy world, Bryce's insights show that with the right tools, we can train our eyes and brain to support better health, learning and quality of life at any age. The Hidden Stress That's Sabotaging Your Body and Mind What if the real reason you're stuck, sick, or stressed isn't just your schedule—but the way your nervous system is wired to survive, not thrive? In this life-changing conversation with Dr. Sharon Bergquist—a leading internal medicine physician, researcher, and founder of the first integrative health center at Emory University—we go deep into the science of whole-person health. And I'm telling you: this will shift how you think about stress, healing, and what it really takes to feel well. Dr. Bergquist breaks down the truth about how chronic stress, trauma, and even low-grade inflammation are quietly wrecking your health behind the scenes—even when you're eating right and exercising. We're not talking about surface-level tips here. This is about the deep work that affects everything: your immune system, mental clarity, metabolism, energy, and even how fast you age. And the wild part? Most people don't even realize how much stress their body is carrying until it's already showing up as symptoms. We talk about how early childhood adversity changes your biology, why mindset alone isn't enough to heal, and how you can actually retrain your nervous system to shift out of fight-or-flight and into a state of calm, clarity, and repair. Dr. Bergquist shares practical steps you can start today—from breathwork and emotional regulation to purpose-driven habits—that work with your body, not against it. This isn't just a medical conversation—it's a blueprint for resilience. Because if you're chasing peak performance but ignoring your internal state, you're driving with the brakes on. Dr. Bergquist calls it “healthspan”—living longer and better. And that starts with how you manage your stress, how you process pain, and how you learn to feel safe in your own body again. Key Takeaways: Why chronic stress is one of the biggest threats to your long-term health How early life adversity can silently shape your health trajectory The link between emotional trauma, immune dysfunction, and aging How to activate your parasympathetic nervous system and promote healing Simple, science-backed strategies to improve your healthspan starting today The difference between treating symptoms and building true resilience If your body has been telling you something's off—or if you just know it's time to feel good again—this episode is your roadmap. — Max Out.
