262 Who's Afraid of the Multiverse? [Part 2] with Dr. Jeff Zweerinkapologetics, apologetics profile, Jeff Zweerink, Daniel Ray, Watchman Fellowship, multiverse, Reasons to Believe, fine-tuning, big bangOur guest again this week, astrophysicist and author at Reasons to Believe (www.reasons.org) Dr. Jeff Zweerink, tells us that we have nothing to fear, not even the multiverse! Many atheists and skeptics have tried to employ the multiverse as a means of explaining away God as the cause of the existence of our universe. Come and hear what Jeff has to say this week about how creation not only is not threatened by modern science, but how it ultimately can encourage and strengthen our faith when we learn more about it. By faith we know that the physical universe and everything it contains, both seen and unseen, are all ultimately declaring the glory of God. This week we conclude our discussion about Jeff's 2008 book, Who's Afraid of the Multiverse?Jeff Zweerink is an astrophysicist and a senior research scholar for Reasons to Believe (www.reasons.org), an organization dedicated to demonstrating the compatibility of science and the Christian faith. Jeff's work focuses on helping people of all backgrounds bridge the perceived gap between science and the Christian faith. Jeff has also made many media appearances, on television, radio, and in print. He earned a BS in physics and a PhD in astrophysics with a focus on gamma rays from Iowa State University. He taught and ran the planetarium at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, until postdoctoral research in gamma rays led him to the University of California, Riverside. The universe is a fantastically wondrous place. There are more things in heaven and earth than are often dreamt of in our philosophies, to paraphrase Hamlet a little bit. And for the many things we can observe in the physical universe, science sometimes struggles to come up with an explanation as to what is really going on. How much more mysterious are those things which we cannot see? How should Christians think about things that the science of the heavens tells us cannot be seen, such as the idea of the existence of many different universes? That's the question we tackle this week and next on the broadcast with astrophysicist from Reasons to Believe, Dr. Jeff Zweerink. We talk about his 2008 book, Who's Afraid of the Multiverse? So, who is afraid of the multiverse? Come and see! Jeff Zweerink is an astrophysicist and a senior research scholar for Reasons to Believe (www.reasons.org), an organization dedicated to demonstrating the compatibility of science and the Christian faith. What is the cosmic microwave background (CMB), and why is it essential in cosmology? What role do instruments like BICEP and the Simons Observatory play in studying the early universe? And is the multiverse real?  I had the absolute pleasure of discussing these questions with Dr. Hugh Ross, astrophysicist and founder of Reasons to Believe.  In our conversation, Hugh and I discuss my research on polarization signals in the cosmic microwave background (CMB), focusing on my work with the BICEP, POLARBEAR2, and Simons Array telescopes. These signals are key to understanding the inflationary event that shaped the early universe. We explore how ongoing data collection helps us learn more about the universe's origins. Six Reasons to Believe in Biblical Inerrancy, and what Christianity becomes when we Deny the Bible's Authority

“What is truth?” This is the question Pontius Pilate famously asked Jesus in the gospel of John. In our day and age, truth is defined as relative and open to subjective opinions, perspectives, and interpretations that vary based on someone's experiences, contexts, or social class.   It's no wonder that in a context like ours, many Christians have begun to question if the Bible is trustworthy. After all, it was written by human authors. How can we be certain that it's actually been inspired by God? Surely it must be imperfect, full of error, and open to interpretation.   But what happens to the Christian faith when we begin to undermine and question the Bible's authority? How does it affect our faith, our churches, and our witness? Today on the podcast, we'll talk about just what's at stake when we let go of the foundation of God's Word, and how that changes everything about we define the Christian faith.

There is no quick or easy answers to the questions and doubts people have about Christianity. If you have experienced a season of doubt or if you know someone who has or is passing through such a time, we often wonder what say or what to do. We wonder if we've been deceived or if we haven't thought through everything we should have. We are tempted to envy others who seem to have it all together and become fearful of expressing our doubts. Maybe we are intimidated by objections for which we have no answer. This week on the Profile we continue our conversation with author, apologist, and pastor Bobby Conway as he continues to share his experiences and wisdom from his own struggles with doubt and how we might respond to our own doubts or the doubts of our friends, loved ones, or ardent skeptics.Bobby Conway is a Christian apologist, author, and pastor. Jesus tells us that in this world, we will have trouble. We also know from experience that part of that trouble includes times of intense and difficult doubts. Jesus, however, reminds us not to fear, that He has overcome this world and all its troubles and sorrows. He has even defeated death itself. The Apostle Paul encourages us likewise that the troubles through which we pass can be and often do serve as a means of encouraging others who are experiencing the same doubts and difficulties. This week and next on the Profile, we encourage you to hear our encouraging conversation with pastor, author, and apologist Bobby Conway, about how Jesus graciously restored and strengthened his faith.Bobby Conway is a Christian apologist, author, and pastor. Are you growing older and beginning to wonder about the meaning of life? Are you someone whose enjoyment of life is being severely restricted due to a persistent, intrusive fear of death? Or are you just naturally curious about anything and everything related to the life beyond? If any of those descriptions fit you, then this conversation is for you! Join me as in Interview the legendary Dr. Raymond Moody and Paul Perry—as they share their personal and professional experience and advice based on sixty years of experience studying this mystery. After decades of persistent, rigorous skeptical inquiry, they are confident of a life after death. Raymond Moody, MD, PhD, is the leading authority on the “near-death experience”—a phrase he coined and an experience he defined in the late seventies. His seminal work, Life After Life, completely changed the way we view death and dying and has sold more than thirteen mil- lion copies worldwide. The New York Times calls Dr. Moody the “father of the near-death experience.” For more than five decades, Dr. Moody has regularly enlightened audiences with his lectures and public speaking events. His Life After Life Institute provides a place for leading-edge researchers and thinkers to share their investigations into near-death phenomena and offers online courses and personal consultations. Dr. Moody is also in the private practice of philosophical counseling and consulting on dying, training hospice workers, clergy, psychologists, nurses, doctors, and other medical professionals on matters of grief recovery and dying. Paul Perry is the coauthor of five New York Times bestsellers, including The Light Beyond with Raymond Moody, Saved by the Light with Dannion Brinkley, and Evidence of the Afterlife with Jeffrey Long, MD. Perry has cowritten a dozen books on near-death experiences, four of them with Dr. Moody. His books have been published in more than thirty languages around the world. Science and religion are often pitted against each other with many people believing faith is incompatible with science. But is it? Astrophysicist Jeff Zweerink PhD, Senior Research Scholar at Reasons To Believe believes the opposite. Jeff — whose publications include Who is Afraid of The Multiverse? —argues that scientific discoveries as well as theoretical notions like a meta verse actually offer evidence to back up his Christian faith. In this episode, we discuss the interface of God and Science. Guest: Jeff Zweerink Music and Sound Effects: Pixabay Resources: Reasons.org
