This is a very special conversation with a dear friend and brother of mine, Joshua Payne. Josh and I have done so much together in the last 6 years since meeting in his job interview for The Man Cave, and today we sat down to talk about his Bucks Party, or as he renamed it, his Bucks Portal. Bucks parties are realistically designed to celebrate a man stepping into becoming a Husband, but unfortunately we have lost the meaning and significance behind this event. And, Joshua wanted to do something about that and make it a truly memorable weekend that prepared him for his wedding. He recruited his nearest and dearest, including myself, to create a weekend for him that would do this. This is a juicy conversation about: Rites of Passage and why they should be intentionally re-integrated back into society What it means to Josh to become a Husband and choose to get married Why he wanted his Bucks Party to instead be a 3-day, intentional Rite of Passage How we designed the weekend, including sharing a few key moments! __________ Bio As a seasoned professional with over 6 years of experience in the coaching and mentorship domain, Joshua has worked with thousands of individuals nationwide. Serving as a senior facilitator at The Man Cave, a renowned preventive mental health and emotional intelligence charity, Joshua has personally guided over 5000 young men towards embodying healthy masculinity, while also providing world-class facilitation training and emotional support to fellow facilitators/role models within the organisation. Beyond his extensive role at The Man Cave, Joshua has continued to expand his impact by designing and delivering leadership and character development programs for organisations such as Movember, Monash University, The Olympic Committee, and The Rites of Passage Institute, spanning various age groups. Now Joshua is stepping forward and birthing an offering of his own. “Your Window” is a brand new coaching and mentorship program that is the cultivation of all the tools and resources Joshua has been deeply initiated into across 6 years of facilitating and participating in various trainings worldwide. The concept behind 'Your Window', which offers group and 1:1 support to both men and women, revolves around the idea that individuals experience life through their unique lens shaped by their emotions, their belief systems, their wounding, and their core memories. These core memories we have experienced and the pain we have endured across the timeline of our lives often fogs up our window, leading us to see the world, ourselves, and others through a distorted lens. Through compassionate witnessing and gentle guidance, Joshua will support and empower you in cleaning your window, creating a far clearer connection to your fullest expression, deepest desires, and your own sovereign power. ____ Joshua Payne IG - https://www.instagram.com/joshen.around/ Matt Defina IG - https://www.instagram.com/mattdefina_/ LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthewdefina/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/matt.defina/ Another Way IG - https://www.instagram.com/anotherway.au/ Website - www.anotherway.au Join Book Club https://www.anotherway.au/book-club Come to Basecamp A new, monthly community gathering for the holistic health community of Melbourne https://www.anotherway.au/basecamp The Kilimanjaro Experience - 2024 https://mountainsandmarathons.world/thekilimanjaroexperience-matt/
As we wrap up 2023, have you taken a moment to reflect on what kind of year it has been? For many of us, the year has been filled not with numbers but with moments and decisions that created these moments. Out of all the decisions you made this year, what was the most significant? Can I put it to you today that the most important decision that you have had to make is - will I follow God today? Join us today as we make that decision once again - to follow God. God bless. Have you ever noticed how we tend to ask our kids a lot of questions? Why do we do this. We tend to ask our kids (and others) a lot of questions not just because of curiosity, but because we want them to have the freed to respond. The reality is, as much as well-behaved children or controlled, predictable behaviors are desirable—independent, free-spirited children (and people) who make their own thoughtful choices are a greater desire. That why God in the Old Testament and Jesus in the New Testament also ask us so many questions. God wants us to be free to choose, God desires our engagement, more specifically God wants us to feel free to choose Him. This is the point of our series: "Questions God Asks". There are times in our lives when “playing the victim” is not helpful for movement. God invites us to stand upright and face ourselves. In episode 36, Jake talks with his Cousin Derek Mack about courage and how it matters for living for the day! Passage: Joshua 1:8-9 Main Point: Courage means we take action despite being afraid. Theme: Courage Call to Action: Schedule in time to be courageous. Take the next step. Nugget: One of the things we will be most proud of in Heaven is the way we courageously, sacrificially loved others. ________________________________________________________ Spirit and Truth: Words and Music by Tommy Walker. Transitions are a part of life. For good or bad. Some changes we promote - some come unexpectedly. They are not always easy. Embracing change can be difficult. We might not be able to chose how changes come, but we can decide how we react with the change. How we navigate the changes has a lot to do with the success in our life. Calvary is facing the change of lead pastor as it looks for the man God has already chosen for the church. The Bible shows some transitions - between leadership as well - in the Old and New Testament. Pr. Gary Preston looks at principles in the Bible to help us implement as we face changes.
