We are jumping into a new series on Jonah. The book of Jonah isn't primarily about a fish--it's the story of a faithful God pursuing a wayward heart. Through Jonah, we will learn together about God's relentless mercy for everyone. Sometimes God sends storms not to punish us, but to rescue us. This morning, we find Jonah "vomited" onto the shore by the whale, and Jonah experiencing the consequences of him being swallowed by the whale. Even as Jonah feels the results of him being in the whale, on the shore he hears God's call on him - and it is the same call as before! Jonah was not disqualified from grace, and he was recommissioned to carry out the same mission God gave him earlier. This story demonstrates that God is the God of second chances. Not only are we forgiven, but we are also recommissioned. Sermon challenge: Where is God calling you to obey Him again? We are jumping into a new series on Jonah. The book of Jonah isn't primarily about a fish--it's the story of a faithful God pursuing a wayward heart. Through Jonah, we will learn together about God's relentless mercy for everyone. This morning, Pastor Karla opens this new series with the call of Jonah and his response to it. God's call often leads us out of our comfort zone and into His purpose. We all have a Nineveh we would rather not go to, but God's will is better than our way. Sermon challenge: Where are you resisting God's direction right now? Passage: Jonah 1:1-3 We have three worship opportunities for you to experience: 9:00 a.m. - Sanctuary Service 9:30 a.m. - Online Service 10:30 a.m. - Chapel Service Please consider joining us for one of these services. We live in a shallow world with quick answers, constant motion, and noise both inside and out. Lent calls us deeper--beneath distraction, beneath habit, beneath self. In the Old Testament, God often led His people into deep work confronting what was broken, healing what was hidden, and shaping His people for wholeness. This Lent, we enter that same journey and allow God to go beneath our surface to connect us more to our Divine Design. As we celebrate the joy of Easter, Pastor Karla encourages us in the deep work of God, and that it is never wasted. It is through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that we discover this truth most profoundly. Earthwise invites us to rediscover our Divine Design to care for God's creation. Through Scripture and honest reflection on the brokenness we see around us, this series explores how environmental stewardship is an act of justice, discipleship, and hope in Christ. Together we'll consider practical ways to live faithfully as we await God's promised renewal of all things. This week, we have a special guest speaker, Phiippe Lazaro. Philippe is the Communications Manager and Storyteller for Plant with Purpose. Philippe shares the stories of people living at the forefront of the climate crisis, who are working to transform their ecosystems and communities. He loves emphasizing the human experience, and keeping conversations about the environment centered on the communities most affected by it. Today, Philippe shares with us that God rebukes nations that pollute the land and oppress the poor. Environmental justice is a prophetic call—it confronts systems that exploit creation and people. Through Scripture and honest reflection on the brokenness we see around us, this series explores how environmental stewardship is an act of justice, discipleship, and hope in Christ. Together we'll consider practical ways to live faithfully as we await God's promised renewal of all things. Pastor Karla discusses how the fall brought suffering to both people and the planet. Environmental breakdown is part of the brokenness Christ came to redeem. Advent is a time of great anticipation as we await the Christ-child entering our world at Christmas. This year, through the imagination of C.S. Lewis and his book The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, join us on Sunday mornings as we uncover the story of the birth of Christ in a new way. A thaw has come to Narnia, and with it comes a forerunner of Aslan: Father Christmas bringing gifts to all the Narnian animals, the Sons of Adam, and the Daughters of Eve. The gifts he brings are meant to prepare the Pevensie children for the hard work of following Aslan, who is coming. Isaiah 35 tells the story of a spring thaw too. Meanwhile, we remember that Christ also had a forerunner in his cousin, John the Baptizer. And in baptism we receive the gifts we need to follow Christ, who is coming. Pastor Grant is in the chaplain residency program with the San Diego Veterans Medical Center in La Jolla, and was on weekend duty today during which he led and preached for the Protestant worship service that also is fed as live video to the TVs of patients. Drawing on the story of Daniel and the story of Jack LaLane with Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story," we learned that there is a way God has designed our bodies to best function when we best fuel them according to His design for the best witness and influence. Eat and Drink Healthy and Exercise.
