Stand-Alone Sermon from September 15, 2024 | The First Two Questions God Asks | When it comes to being human, our natural instinct is to hide, namely out of fear and self-preservation. And that isn't wrong; we just end up hiding in the wrong place. So, where can we hide where we experience the safety and the healing we long for? Life generates a lot of questions. Mystery and complications abound. But, it is not as if we weren't a part of all of that. We too, were complicated and even mysterious. And every once in a while, it was a good idea for us to allow God to ask us some questions.Last Sunday at Storyline's Gathering, we continued our series on the questions God asked us.The band performed songs by Tom Petty, Maggie Rogers, Nikka Costa, and Will Reagan.
It is not unusual for each of us to have questions about God and even questions for God. But did you know that God has questions for us?This past Sunday morning at Storyline's Gathering, we began a new series about the questions God asks us.The band performed songs by Post Malone and Lainey Wilson, Death Cab for Cutie, Fleetwood Mac, and more.
Using Job 38 as her text, Elder Brenda Wilusz shares a sermon entitled "Questions God Asks."To investigate this most important of stories further, go here.
Join me as I welcome back Israel Wayne to the Family Discipleship Podcast! Israel discusses the ineffectiveness of institutional solutions for church and family issues, advocating instead for relational discipleship modeled after Jesus’ example. We need far more intergenerational interaction in our churches; and we need parents to take full responsibility for their children's spiritual education, rather than outsourcing it to institutions. Israel Wayne is an author and conference speaker equipping the Church in defending the Christian faith, living a Biblical worldview, discipling their families, and educating according to the Word of God. He is the author of the books Questions God Asks, Questions Jesus Asks, Pitchin’ a Fit: Overcoming Angry and Stressed-Out Parenting, Education: Does God Have an Opinion?, Answers for Homeschooling: Top 25 Questions Critics Ask, Raising Them Up: Parenting for Christians, Foundations in Faith, and Foundational Truths. In this episode, Pastor Nate Schrimp finishes the teaching series, Questions God Asks, with the question "Do you want to be healed?" Jesus posed this question to a man who had been sick and unable to walk for 38 years! Listen in as Pastor Nate discusses the connection of this question to the Israelites wandering in the desert and its importance to us today!
In this episode, Pastor Nate Schrimp continues the teaching series, "Questions God Asks" with a look at the question, "What do you have in your hand?" This was asked by God to Moses when He calls him for the first time to lead his people to freedom. We find this question relevant to us today as God has called each of us to serve in his kingdom, using what he has given us for his glory.
In this teaching from Pastor Gary Beasley, he continues the message series Questions God Asks by focusing in on a question asked by Jesus Himself in Mark chapter 3 "Who is my mother and my brothers?" After asking this rhetorical question, Jesus answered it immediately. "And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, 'Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.'" Mark 3:34-35 NKJV Listen in as Pastor Gary expounds on this special teaching for Mother's Day at ChristStreet.
In this episode, Pastor Nate Schrimp explores the question asked by Jesus to his first followers, "What are you seeking?" This is a continuation of the series "Questions God Asks" as Christ Street Fellowship.
In this episode, Pastor Nate Schrimp continues the series “Questions God Asks” with the question, “What are you doing here?” God asks this to the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 19 after Elijah runs in fear to Mt. Sinai and spends the night in a cave. As we have seen in previous teachings in this series, God asks questions that help us examine our heart, leading us into a greater understanding of who He is and His will for us!
In this episode, Pastor Nate Schrimp continues the Questions God Asks series by looking at the story of the Jacob wrestling with God and God asking him, "What is your name?" This story is found in Genesis 32 verses 22-31.
God dealt with Cain in terms of loving confrontation instead of automatic affirmation. God made it clear that Cain would be accepted if he did well. Of course, God knew the answers to the questions He asked, but He wanted Cain to know and to resist the pull toward violence and anger within.
The scriptures call Jesus “Wonderful, Counselor” in Isaiah 9:6. A wonderful counselor asks probing questions. The Godhead does just that over 300 times in scripture. In this episode, Pastor Gary Beasley continues the "Questions God Asks" series at Christ Street by looking at the question God asked Cain after he murdered his own brother- “Where is your brother?”
This is the first message in a series of 9 focusing on some of the questions God asks throughout scripture. In this episode, Pastor Nate Schrimp teaches on the question God asks Adam, "Where are you?" after he and Eve sin by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This question is relevant to us today as God calls out to each of us, "Where are you?" Will we come out of hiding and answer his call?
Where are you at right now with your relationshipwith God? Do you really love Him?

"The biggest problem that I have with standardized testing.. is whether parents and educators mean to do this or not... a child's entire sense of self-worth is predicated on their performance on the standardized test. If they score high on the test, then they are a valuable human being, and if they don't, then they're a failure and that they will never amount to anything in life." - Israel Wayne Looking to navigate the world of homeschooling without falling into common pitfalls? For today's show we have special guest Israel Wayne on the podcast to discuss the topic of schooling from a Biblical perspective. To the surprise of many Christians in modernity, the Bible isn't neutral when it discusses education. Most succinctly put, Proverbs 22:6 says: "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."In this episode we want to make a Christian case for homeschooling. Our heart behind to episode is to lovingly challenge one other to think Biblically about this controversial matter, and to do it with patience and charity. Let us always be willing to reform our views so that they are in alignment with scripture.Israel Wayne is an author and conference speaker and Director of Family Renewal. He and his wife, Brook, are raising their eleven children in SW Michigan. Israel has a passion for defending the Christian faith and promoting a Biblical worldview. Have you ever noticed how we tend to ask our kids a lot of questions? Why do we do this. We tend to ask our kids (and others) a lot of questions not just because of curiosity, but because we want them to have the freed to respond. The reality is, as much as well-behaved children or controlled, predictable behaviors are desirable—independent, free-spirited children (and people) who make their own thoughtful choices are a greater desire. That why God in the Old Testament and Jesus in the New Testament also ask us so many questions. God wants us to be free to choose, God desires our engagement, more specifically God wants us to feel free to choose Him. This is the point of our series: "Questions God Asks". This week, Rev. I've been looking forward to sharing this conversation with you because I wholeheartedly believe it is the linchpin to formation. Today, we're talking about why the fear of the Lord will transform your life. John will also teach us why cynical people mock truth and how people create their own "Jesus." Buckle up today, folks. This is week five of our "Formed" series. In today's conversation, my new friend Strahan Coleman is here to talk about the cost of formation, how to negotiate with sorrow and silence, and why you can't perform your way to God's heart. Strahan is a writer, musician, and spiritual director from New Zealand. His work helps people to grow a deep friendship with God, seeing prayer as far more than conscious mental dialogue but as a way of existing with God in our everyday ordinary lives. His prayers and poems are invitations toward an honest, rested and open life lived in the Spirit and his dialogue around how we can incorporate ancient prayer forms into our modern lives has helped give language to a generation longing for a deeper living experience of God. Welcome to week four of our [Formed.] series. In today's conversation, my good friend Anthony Skinner is here to talk about what it means to be formed in our heart, our soul, our mind, and our strength.
