¡Garras, dientes y pistolones a tutiplén!

As we provide our longest episode yet somehow, given the length of time since our last proper episode, the guys break down so much news while breaking their promises to try and stay to about a minute per item. However, the connections are not tenuous as the guys look at recent celebrities to have passed away, missed casting chances for others, more on The Matrix sequel, our monthly update on who isn't directing Uncharted now, numerous Bad Boys bits, and info on numerous sequels or remakes to films like Mallrats, Evil Dead, Saw, Edge of Tomorrow, Little Shop of Horrors, Transformers, The Thing, Lethal Weapon, Expendables, Jackass, Ghostbusters, James Bond, Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Jurassic Park/World and GI Joe. Whew! But how could we also miss our usual Disney news, Marvel and DC, and Star Wars also! But more on Cats, the Superbowl - rather the commercials and trailers within, Netflix and Amazon shows, and much, much, more. Plus all the recent trailers including A Quiet Place: Part II, The New Mutants, Bloodshot, Morbius, Guns Akimbo, Vivarium, and Fast and Furious 9 - or rather F9: The Fast Saga - among others. On the reviews side, we talk about Jumanji: The Next Level, Spies in Disguise, 1917, Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, Bombshell, Underwater and are joined by a very special guest to talk about The Gentlemen.Sadly due to us running way over on this episode, we haven't recorded a game for this episode, but we are calling in a better director and editor for the next episode to make sure we don't run overtime for number 14! Until then, please enjoy this bumper episode, however! Please like, subscribe, share and enjoy! As always thanks to Martin (Rammy) for his wonderful work on our graphics, www.rammy.at

Today, and for the next three weeks, the Getting Smart team is going to explore a new initiative from Education Reimagined. Education Reimagined recently released a paper entitled, “School’s Out,” which set out to explore how we could alter our perspective on the meaning, feel, and delivery of learning. Tom had the opportunity to sit down with the education leaders who authored “School’s Out,” and over the next three episodes, he will be digging deeper into what the future of learning may look like for students. This is part two out of three. For the first episode in the series, take a listen to: “School’s Out: Engaging Families and the Community,” with Amy Anderson and Scott Van Beck. In today’s episode, Tom interviews Nate McClennen, Vice President for Education and Innovation at Teton Science Schools; and IT Consultant, Oscar Brinson. Nate and Tom discuss anywhere, anytime learning; the community as a classroom; the differences between learning and school; and the importance of guidance of advisory for learners. In Tom and Oscar’s conversation; they explore how education keeps up with the technological advances; the role A.I. and automation will play in the future of learning and work; and what he sees as technology’s role, along with the role of advisory and guidance relationships. Key Takeaways: [:16] A recap on last week’s episode (and the first part of this series.) [1:05] About today’s episode. [1:25] Tom welcomes Nate to the podcast, and Nate gives a bit of background on how his childhood has helped inform how he thinks about place-based education now. [2:45] Nate and Tom discuss his School’s Out paper. [4:17] Nate’s ideas on how we could reimagine learning and community. [6:30] Nate’s thoughts on where and how we can test some of his ideas. [9:28] The importance of guidance through a ‘learning coach’ in anywhere, anytime learning. [10:20] The challenge around equity and scale when making sure every student has access to a great learning coach. [13:15] The changing role of teachers. [14:45] The differences between learning and school, and how learning could be introduced through the community rather than school. [17:22] Nate shares some final thoughts on the evolution of learning. [19:23] About Oscar Brinson, Tom’s next guest. [19:49] Does Oscar anticipate something that looks like schools or community facilities where students and adult mentors would meet on a regular basis? [21:23] The caveat: the custodial aspect of school being crucial as long as parents have to go to work. [23:46] A potential A.I. system solution to the important custodial aspect of school, and the other ways technology and A.I. will help progress and change how learning is done. The theme behind this final 404 Special of 2011 is Town and Country, and the Strange People Within. These inhabitants include a humanoid mass of vegetable matter, a caveman, an advocate of self-immolation, some racoons with a penchant for arson, historical re-enactors who'd rather be in a different time and/or place, a potential borderline schizophrenic, and even some Americans. If, perchance, you should fit into one or more of these categories, please direct your green-inked letters of complaint to Carla Ulbrich, Flat 29, Paul & Storm, Jay Foreman, Tony Goldmark, Morning Sidekick, Eric Coleman, TVs Kyle, Baldbox featuring Possible Oscar, and Rob Paravonian rather than your host Richard Cray, who was only following orders from a giant invisible rabbit with the voice of Freddie Mercury. Music was provided by Mevio's Music Alley at music.mevio.com and by kind permssion of Flat 29, Jay Foreman, and Rob Paravonian. Visit 404media.blogspot.com for links to artist websites...and buy something from them. Happy New Year, everyone.

This week's story isn't so much a science fiction story as it is a science fiction convention story. It's related. Don't argue with me, I'm the author. It's read by the wonderful Marie B of the Postmodern Geek's Guide to Sex.Promo for Space Casey.Theme music is "Blue Orgone" by Rubber Band Banjo. "Talk Nerdy to Me" is by Possible Oscar.
