Enjoy catching up with these recent conversations: McKay Coppins, staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of The Wilderness: Deep Inside the Republican Party's Combative, Contentious, Chaotic Quest to Take Back the White House (Little Brown, 2015), discusses the venture capital fund that's buying up local newspapers and driving them into bankruptcy and how the loss of local media is contributing to the polarizing political climate. Sandro Galea, physician and epidemiologist, dean of the Boston University School of Public Health, and the author of The Contagion Next Time (Oxford University Press, 2021), argues that the problems in U.S. public health systems, including racial disparities, predated the pandemic and need to be repaired before the next crisis. Anne Helen Petersen, culture writer and the co-author with Charlie Warzel of Out of Office: The Big Problem and Bigger Promise of Working From Home (Knopf, 2021), talks about what starting a career during the pandemic has been like for remote workers. Listeners who have taken part in the 'great resignation' talk about their decision to quit and what life has been like since.   These interviews were lightly edited to fit the format; the original web versions are available here: Who Is Really Behind the Decline of Local News? Lisa Congdon is back in the windowsill with Margo to share all the fun details on her Rockefeller Center Christmas Art Installation as well as a bit of reflection on 2021 and what she hopes to accomplish in 2022! This installation is part of Art in Focus, a series of art exhibitions produced in partnership with Art Production Fund and is on view around the Rockefeller Center campus through January 9th, 2022. When people open her holiday map or encounter her artwork in the gilded art deco halls of the campus, Congdon aspires for her artwork to spark a sense of wonder, curiosity, and joy that will encourage visitors to explore and discover all the magical places illustrated on the map. “My hope is that people will open the map and squeal, the way you would when you open a children's book,” she said. “I hope that everyone who adventures over there takes away — not just from my decorations and my map, but everything at Rockefeller Center — a sense of warmth and coziness, because we all need that right now.” Lisa and Margo discuss the timeline for this project and others that she works on, the logistics, the satisfaction of quick turnaround times, some ways in which her style has evolved yet is still clearly hers, why delegation has been such a key part in her business this year, how hiring a coach has immensely helped her in her work, and why we should all be taking time to rest during the holidays.  Lisa's art installation, which expands upon the festive imagery of her map, can be spotted throughout the campus. Approximately 30 vinyl murals are installed inside 10 Rockefeller Plaza, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and the street and concourse levels of 45 Rockefeller Plaza.   Connect with Lisa: Read more about the Rockefeller Art Installation https://campsite.bio/lisacongdon https://www.instagram.com/lisacongdon/ Art in Focus

Prayer 2021

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 15, 2021 6:44

Scripture For Today:2 Chronicles 6:34-35“When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to you toward this city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name, then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.”Why We Need Other Denominations pt 3The past few days, I've been sharing with you some comparisons about various parts of the body working together – even though they all have different functions. The main thing I've been emphasizing is, no matter how small or insignificant the body part or function, if ALL of the parts are not harmonized and working together, the whole body suffers. In fact, if one part becomes infected and dies or becomes septic, the entire body may die! Even from something as insignificant as an infected hang nail on your little finger! Amen! Then, yesterday I shared about different contractors working together to build a house. I just want to go over that example again because I believe it is so powerful for what we are talking about. Remember, it takes different people with different skill sets to assemble an entire house and to do so effectively and on time. Amen! The body of Christ should function as efficiently as a group of people building a physical house. After all, we are ALL charged with building the Body of Christ on this earth. Amen! So, you would have your foundation crew come in first. This is kind of like the Apostles to the nations. Then, you would bring in your plumbers and have them install all of those lines. That is important to do before you start assembling everything else. You have to know where all of those pipes go. In fact, the foundation people cannot lay the solid foundation until the plumbers finish their work. Think about it! Then, the framers come and frame it all out. Then the, the walls go up and the electricians come and begin to do their jobs. As do the plumbers.  While all of this is going on, the carpenters put up the walls and are laying out the interior walls. The window people are coming in to install window and doors. The roofers are coming in an enclosing the roof to keep everything dry. Then they come back to install the shingles and stuff. While all of this is taking place, coordination is being made to have the siding people come in; the painters, the landscapers and all of the other people to complete the “prettiness” of the house. How does that relate to various denominations? Some denominations are great at sending laborers into the field. Others at serving the homeless. Others at contributing to causes and printing the Gospel. Others are good at witnessing while others are good at distributing.  Others are good at production and mass media. Others are good at holding to traditions and passing them down while others are great at changing with the times to reach a younger generation. Think about, when you went to YOUR church, you either attended because that is where your family has always gone; or you went because your old church was full of OLD people. Or it could be you grew tired of the same old messages and were looking for a new take on Biblical principles. You found a church that served that need. So you moved. Just like building a house, if ALL of the churches in your town, city or even just your neighborhood, would get together, pray, hold events and just work together instead of alone – so much more good could come. You would begin to TAKE BACK the streets from the drug peddlers and murderers and begin to actually DO the work of the Gospel instead of talking and wishing and hoping. Amen! I know I'm way over time.  So let's close with a prayer. Let's Pray! Do you ever get to feeling kind of down, dejected, and anxious come Sunday evening? People refer to this phenomenon as the "Sunday Night Blues," and it's a common experience. You may have chalked it up to rueing the fact that your fun and restful weekend is over, and that you have yet another workweek ahead. But my guest would say that your Sunday night sadness may also be rooted in the feeling of regret — the regret that you didn't put your weekend to good use, that it wasn't restful and fun, and that it was instead busy, draining, and, once again, a big letdown. Her name is Katrina Onstad, and she's the author of The Weekend Effect. Today Katrina shares how the idea of the weekend, of having two back-to-back days off from work, came about, and how it's been challenged and subsequently eroded in the modern day. We then talk about how to take back your weekends, so that your invaluable Saturdays and Sundays feel more the way they did when you were a kid — filled with a sense of possibility.Resources Related to the PodcastSaint MondayHaymarket square affairAoM Podcast #602: The Case for Being UnproductiveAoM Podcast #450: How to Make Time for What Really MattersAoM Podcast #748: Time Management for MortalsAoM Podcast #743: How to Get Time, Priorities, and Energy Working in Your FavorAoM Article: How to Better Manage Your Life AdminAoM Article: The Rise of SpectatoritisAoM Article: The Lost Art of Cheap RecreationConnect With Katrina OnstadKatrina's Website
