As I'm sure everyone who frequents this site already knows all too well, The Dr. Demento Show comes to an end this weekend after 55 glorious years of mad music and crazy comedy. And what better way to pay tribute to such a momentous finale than by attempting to recap the entire history of the good doctor's show - and thus, ostensibly the entire history of comedy music itself - into an eight-and-a-half-minute parody of Don McLean's classic rock staple "American Pie?" From the recently-released compilation album Fruits of the Smogberry Trees: The FuMP's Tribute to Dr. Demento, this song was a true labor of love. Barret Hansen, aka Dr. Demento, has enriched my life and livelihood far more than I can easily express, but this song was my attempt at expressing it anyway, and I hope you all enjoy it. Above all, don't you ever DARE forget to STAY DEEEEEEEEEEMENTED!!!! A Parody of "American Pie" Written by Don McLean Parody Lyrics by Tony Goldmark Vocals and Mixing: Tony Goldmark All Background Music: Jacob Martin Group Vocals on Last Chorus: Rob Bergman, Mike Cisneros, Emily Clark, Susan "Sulu" Dubow, Robbie Ellis, Tyler Green, Chris "Dizman" Grice, Robert Lund, Charlotte Driftwood Marlowe, Jacob Martin, Beth Paxton, Kit Quinn, Dr. Sarcofiguy, Luke Ski, Garrett Smith, Joe J. Thomas and Gaby Tyrrell. Annotated lyrics with links to the references! Check out my my podcast! And my YouTube channel! And Jacob Martin's Bandcamp page!
Sometimes you just gotta vent for a minute. Or, well, a minute and 12 seconds. ("Orwell." Ha.) Perhaps you know the original. The parody was dreamed up (i.e., waking-nightmared up) by Spaff, and all the music and vocals were performed by Robert Lund. Both of whom, by the time you read this, will probably have been deported to Uganda. Hopefully the capital has an Abbey Road.

"All good things come to an end." I really despise that saying, but I'm afraid it's undeniable. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way as the Good Doctor (with the help of Jeff Morris) puts together his final two shows. The Doctor Demento Show has been a hugely important part of my life since I first tuned in back in the 1970s, under the covers on a Sunday night when I was supposed to be asleep. His devotion to all things musical and to all things silly had never been (and will never be) equaled. Thank you, Barret Hansen, for everything you've dedicated your life to. And another thank you, Doctor, for playing (and premiering) this song as part of your penultimate broadcast on October 4, 2025. I didn't think I'd ever get another new song on your show, but you and Jeff squeezed this in, and I really appreciate it! And speaking of Jeff... Jeff Morris kindly and patiently worked with me on this while in the midst of the busiest period imaginable. Huge thanks to you Jeff, for all you do in the name of deeeeeeeeeemented music! Words, music, guitars, bass, drums, percussion, piano, vibes, mandolin, accordion, keyboards, vocals, arrangement, production: SG String arrangement:Tim Lorsch and SG Violins, viola, cello: Tim Lorsch Invaluable suggestions and authentic voice-over: Jeff Morris Cast of Lumanians saying "yeah" at the end: SG, Jeff Morris, Angel "Chuck" Gonzalez, Jace McLain, Susan "Sulu" Dubow Inspiration: Barret Hansen

(production) And last but not least: Dr. Demento (Beh) I've always been a loyal fan of cartoon characters of the 1960s and '70s, and wondered what it would be like to have them be my friends. I always fantasized about jumping into an animation reel with them. Ha ha! the great Luke Ski was always doing funny cartoon-related songs, which served as inspiration for me, as well as current movies and TV series about modern cartoon characters. I decided to spice up the lyrics and take my fantasy friendships up a notch!

A creator of FuMPy music's life is an eternal tug-of-war between our desire to be good at music and our desire to obsess over the videogames, anime, and other nerdy hobbies that lead us down this dark path. Nerd Regrets is an ode to one of those sides losing. As I spend more and more time trying to master the craft of playing geeky music, I have spent less and less time immersed in the geeky cultures inspiring the music. It is a litany of failure in under two minutes

For the FuMP's Tribute to Dr. Demento, I wanted to write an original song about what the good Doctor's show meant to me, and how it has influenced pretty much my whole life. I wouldn't be writing and performing comedy music, I wouldn't have the friends and relationships I have, and I wouldn't be where I am, let alone who I am without his show and his influence. So thank you Barry...all of this is your fault. And I mean that affectionately. Lyrics and Vocals: Insane Ian Music: "Pico and Sepulveda" by Felix Figueroa and His Orchestra, as covered by Power Salad, and then sampled by Trevor Morgan
It's finally here! Fruits of the Smogberry Trees: The FuMP's Tribute to Dr. Demento is now available in the store, and this is the closing track. Hi. Spaff here. Some kids want to grow up to be President or cure cancer. My goal was to get a song on the Dr. Demento Show. I listened to it faithfully every Sunday night, often with headphones so my mom wouldn't overhear songs like "Making Love in a Subaru." In the early 2000s I somehow convinced Robert Lund, a Salt Lake radio personality, to record some of my song parody ideas, all of which I immediately sent to Dr. Demento. On November 28, 2004, he played "I Want Some Plastic Surgery for Christmas." I was giddy. Robert and I have since collaborated on over a hundred songs, and Dr. Demento has played a number of them. I remain giddy. So here's another. It's a tribute to Dr. Demento via a list of songs from the days he hooked me. (Needless to say, he has played countless more effing awesome comedy songs in the intervening years, some of which were created by the people reading this.) It's a parody of "Ripple," a song the Grateful Dead wrote and recorded in 1970, the year Barret Hansen became Dr. Demento. Pass the claret to me, Barret! May you forever stay demented. ~~~ CREDITS: Turns out Robert owns mandolins (plural) and has played them his whole life. Also he sang and played guitar and produced this recording. "Ripple" has lyrics by Robert Hunter and music by someone named Jerry Garcia. Dr. Demento brought all of these comedy songs to our attention, and the legendary titles listed here are the brain children of their various legendary parents. BUT I DID EVERYTHING ELSE.
A musical plea from teachers, before the school year begins

The Disney+ "Star Wars" TV series titled "Andor" recently finished its 2nd and final Season to much well deserved critical acclaim. I, the great Luke Ski, a fan of the "Star Wars" franchise since the first movie was released when I was 3 years old, very much enjoyed this series set in the years leading into the events of the film "Rogue One", which itself was set leading into the events of the aforementioned 1977 movie. That said... ...there was something about this show that set it apart from other "Star Wars" movies and shows of the past / since, and something that happened in Season 2 (or more accurately didn't happen) that really underscored that difference. So I decided to write this sketch in which droid K-2SO asks Rebel Captain Cassian Andor an important question that I felt was left unanswered by the series. Editing, Mixing, and Mastering - Imperial Sound Supervisor Chris Mezzolesta Much love and respect to - Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Tony Gilroy, and the writers, cast, and crew of "Andor" PS: To Alan and Diego, if you ever wanted to take the script for this sketch (click the 'lyrics' button to find it) so you two could perform a reading of it live at a convention event or something, you have my permission and eager encouragement to do so. I also threw together a quick VIDEO for this sketch, which is here: https://youtu.be/gDgjf3wmnxY

A kinky thing happened on my way to a Comic Con. I met the smooth-talking reprobate Kirk St. James, and we co-wrote this song. Luckily, cold showers are the norm this time of year anyway! Superheroes get all the glory, but fans need love too. Or maybe geeks just need to use a few superpowers of their own (that could get them arrested in public). The so-called 'religious right' proves once again that it is neither (religious or right) by embracing the Big Ugly Budget Bill, demonizing immigrants, and countless other hallmarks of Trump's agenda. (I did a version of this song 7 years ago, but history keeps not only repeating itself but getting worse, so it was time for an update!)
