Today, on this Table Talks episode, I invite Rikki Arundel, MSc, PSAE, FBSA, FRSA, ALAM(Hons) to chat at my coffee table.  Rikki is an award winning virtual keynote speaker, presentation skills and storytelling coach, and Gender expert. After founding the UK and Ireland Professional Speaking Association (PSA), their career as a sales and technology speaker came to an abrupt end when they came out as transgender non binary. Faced with considerable discrimination, Rikki completed a master's degree in gender research and established themselves as a social entrepreneur and popular international speaker on gender issues and LGBTQ history, including delivering two successful TEDx talks. Today Rikki works extensively with organizations keen to raise awareness of gender inequality and create a more inclusive workplace. They also draw on their extensive speaking experience and qualifications to coach leaders and speakers in advanced presentation skills and storytelling.LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/rikkiarundelLink Tree –  https://linktr.ee/rikkiarundelSpeakers Ecademy – Free to join - https://www.linkedin.com/groups/14238395/https://www.facebook.com/groups/speakersecademyTo connect with Keith on Instagram, visit here.To visit Keith's website to learn more, CLICK Here.Free Resources:FREE: Keith's Community (Facebook)FREE: "Towardations" (TM) for the BisexualFREE: 10 Questions you should ask yourself before coming outFREE: "5 Questions for the Bisexual Couple"FREE: Journal Prompts for the BisexualFREE: Guide to better Biblical InterpretationProducts:Wipeout Trauma Digital CourseInlet Journey: Are you part of the Bi+ Community and could use some personal help from me? According to Forbes.com Andy Lopata is ‘a true master of networking'. Andy calls it ‘building strong professional relationships' and in this interview shares the many reasons that this is such a vital business skill. He talks about ‘how to work a room' as being all about ‘not being attached to the outcome' and taking the long term approach versus trying to ‘win' in the short term. For Andy, empathy and authenticity are crucial factors in successful networking. Way more so now in the world of virtual gatherings. Leadership can be a lonely experience, especially in light of social distancing, and it is even more important now to build a strong support network. Other topics we discuss include ‘cognitive diversity' in networking, how to protect your reputation, and the answer to the question “How social should we be in our professional lives?” Andy Lopata is an acclaimed professional relationships strategist, with global clients including Paypal, GlaxoSmithKline and Brother. He has written four books on networking and often been quoted in the media, including The Sunday Times, The Financial Times and Inc. In fact, the FT called Andy ‘one of Europe's leading business networking strategists' and both Forbes.com and The Independent called him ‘a true master of networking'. Andy holds the PSAE award – that's the UK's top award designed to recognise excellence in professional speaking. He is a Board Member and Director of the Fellow's Community of the Professional Speaking Association (PSA) UK and Ireland and a member of the Global Speakers Federation (GSF). He's also a Fellow of the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI), and a Master of the Institute of Sales Management.

Andy Lopata is an award winning speaker (He was awarded his PSAE - the Professional Speaking Association Award of Excellence which is the top award for professional speakers in the UK and Ireland last year) and today, he is sharing with us some vital tips and tricks on effective networking. In this episode of the “Be Your best in Business”, Andy shares how networking is about surrounding ourselves with people of different perspective, ideas, level of experience from us. BECAUSE if we share with these people, we become better equipped to succeed than when we are on our own. We also talked about EGO, and how it makes people become vulnerable. In today’s episode, we talk about how important it is to KNOW what we are looking for. We need to be discerning and filtering those which things are valuable to us and our business. Andy also shares a very interesting approach when going to networking events, which is to actually DITCH the elevator pitch. He also talked about the NETWORKING MYTH which is all about a wonderful place called a networking event that is full of potential clients and if you just go and pitch everyone, you’ll gain a new client – BUT effective networking does not work this way! Andy also discussed a very important networking DON’T – nervously approaching a stranger and asking them the question “WHAT DO YOU DO?” We discussed how when attending these networking events it is important to sell THROUGH the room, instead of TO the room. This relies on getting to know people, and building relationship. Needless to needless to say, COMMUNICATION is key in networking. We also took the time to talk about how important it is for the event organisers to understand WHY they are organising the event, and WHAT would it do for the attendees. Both need to gain something from the event. In this episode, Andy also shares with us tips on how to effectively organise a networking event: Don’t invite just anyone. Be aware of why people are attending the event, and help them meet new people. Act like a genuine host. LASTLY, we talked about how in networking, it is important that you invest in time and effort. Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you lecture at University today? For undergraduates, I will lecture about networking for their careers. For postgraduates and MBAs, it will be about the importance of building a network. Question 2 –What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self? I might tell my 25 year old self all about networking and become a speaker before everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision? Membership on the Professional Speaking Association and surrounding myself with people who are in the same industry as me.
