In this episode, Ian Luckett sat down with Ian Smith, owner of the Evolve Media Agency in the US. He helps people with their online sales funnel and getting those leads, as well as years of experience in using messenger bots. And today we are talking about how to warm up cold traffic, so sit back and enjoy the show! In this episode, we talked about how important it is to get your potential and existing clients to know, trust and like you – how social media and emails have been a part of this over the years – and how these channels especially emails had become over saturated these days that the open rates, and click rates have been on a constant decline. Ian also shares with us how messenger marketing is on the rise now and how businesses are slowly shifting into this channel, though he emphasises that entrepreneurs need not to ditch email marketing, and use messenger marketing alongside with it as well as other social media platforms, whichever your target is comfortable using. We discussed the advantages of using Facebook Messenger in marketing, as it allows for a more interactive and dynamic communication. There’s also less inundation over in messenger compared to emails. Ian also discussed the importance of giving FREE value to your potentials and existing clients. You can easily send pdf’s, videos, links, and even podcast episodes in messenger. He thinks the top thing that people normally do wrong when mapping out their customer journey, and that is trying to cut corners, trying to get that cold traffic to a customer too quickly. He also talked about what a customer journey looks like in terms of consultancy. He tackled two things: Referrals Cold Traffic Lastly, Ian shares his top three tips in messenger marketing. They are: Figure out if you are outsourcing or doing it yourself. Figure out your goals! Monitor your results, and OPTIMISE! Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 18 Year Old Self? Invest in education, invest in this internet marketing education. Question 2 – What would you lecture at University today? I’ll lecture about what I know – building relationships online, creating content, Facebook advertising, taking the initiative, and just going after what you really want in life. I would say, “Look at life like a video game, and you’re just playing this video game until game’s over. Have fun with life!” Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision? In this episode, Ian Luckett is joined by Ryan Peck all the way from the USA. He is a cold e-mail king, a lead generation specialist, a business consultant, and the founder of The Leads System. And today he will be sharing with us some very important tips and tricks on cold e-mail marketing and how to get your e-mails opened. Today, Ryan shares with us essential tips on e-mail marketing, including what cold e-mail marketing is, how it works, and how effective it is. We also talked about how important it is not to “sell” on your first e-mail, and to keep your sales copy short. Ryan also shared how the power of consistency helps – you need to be consistent in what you do because people are not always available to get back to you, so you need to try again if you do not get a feedback the first time as follow ups are vital in e-mail marketing. We also covered the importance of creating a quality list, getting the right people into your list. Ryan also shares how significant it is to do at least five e-mails when you are putting together your e-mail sequence as part of your content marketing. In this episode, we also tackled how important it is that you work with an e-mail system that suits your business, not all businesses are the same hence the need for a system that meets your business needs. Ryan also shares with us three top guiding tips in cold e-mail traffic: Have at least 5 e-mails in your e-mail sequence. But make each e-mail short. E-mail the right person. No matter how good your sequence is, it will be useless to the wrong person. Deliver and work on your subject line! We also discussed how important it is that you are aware of your analytics so that you know how your e-mails are performing. Was your e-mail even read? Ryan also shares the two basic types of subject lines. They are: Clickbait – putting anything on the subject line in order for the recipient to open the email. Personalised – increases the open rates of your emails. Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 18 Year Old Self? Don’t wait until tomorrow. This is the second of the two-part interview with Ian Golding of GLOW Training, a communications and impact training company. In the last episode with Ian, we talked about how the business should act around their customers and prospects – we tackled how a company’s vision, mission, objectives, and goals should be well understood and embodied from the top management down to the frontlines. In this episode, we dig down to the individuals, you. How do you act around your customers? And how does your behaviour affect their attitude towards the business, and their purchase? In this episode, we talked about the importance of personal impact and how the “YOU” from the inside may look different from the outside -- how others see you may not be necessarily the same as how you want to be seen. Ian also shared that sometimes we create a barrier and turn people off unintentionally, so as entrepreneurs, we have to understand the power of listening. He also talked about the importance of working on our behaviour and develop empathy because it is a very vital ability in sales. Ian also shares the top behaviour which embodies empathy such as talking less, working harder to shut up, and nodding when people are talking. We also discussed one of the top clangers that sales people do when it comes to body language, and it is the failure to maintain eye contact. We also touched on the importance of feedback in assessing our behaviours. Ian also shared a common problem when it comes to first impressions -- putting all focus, concentration, and thoughts into WHAT they are going to say, and none to HOW they are going to say it. Lastly, Ian shares 3 top things that someone in business can do to help themselves in terms of conveying themselves to others: Identify the values that you want to portray in any occasion that you are in. How do you want to come across to others? Work harder on the message that your behaviour is sending. Eye contact – it is very important. Today’s episode is the first of a two part podcast with Ian Golding. Ian is a communications and impact expert, who helps businesses on how to “act” within the business. He basically guides businessmen and women into not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk. Today we will be giving you some useful tips and tricks on how to get your business’ message to the right recipients. In this episode we opened up with the importance of “niching”, and how importance it is to get the RIGHT message to the RIGHT people. Regardless of how good your message is, if you are delivering it to the wrong people, nothing substantial will come out of it. Ian also talked about the importance of knowing your transferable skills as they can definitely help you along the way; may it be in business, or your career. We also discussed how most of the time the transferable skills that we have are those that we do well, and so we don’t normally think of them as skills but rather just things we do on a normal basis. Thus we need to take a look at ourselves from the outside – objectively. We also talked about how important it is for every single person in the organisation to know and embody the organisations value/s. Ian shared how a lot of companies use their values as the driving force of the business. One of the common problems experienced by businesses when trying to instil their company values across the organisation which is – to start from the top of the organisation! He also shares some tips on how to make sure that the management embodies these values as well, and that includes becoming experiential, which also means practicing what you preach! We chatted about the importance of knowing how we want to come across, and how we really come across to the people both in and out of the organisation. Ian also shared a very helpful tip, and exercise on how to do this within your organisation. Lastly, Ian shares top three things that businesses can do to improve their businesses: Have a comprehensive refresh of your values. Invest in training to make these values explicit. Make sure that the values are instilled from the top down. Getting the message across is as important as the message itself. A smart entrepreneur not only knows how to get from Point A to B, but will figure out the best and effective way to do it. One of the best ways of getting our points across writing, most if not all businesses today reach out to their customers and potential clients through newsletters, e-mails, and through social media. But is it enough to say a few words? Does it need to be long? Why do you need to review what you type and/or write? This week, we are fortunate enough to have been granted an interview with Martin Morrison, a communications expert, an international ghost writer, book editor, as well as a copywriter and today, we talk about how to effectively get our written message across, amidst the noise of the virtual and digital worlds that we live in. In this episode, Martin talks to us about the right approach in communicating rather than marketing. He also talks about the importance of clarity – having a clear understanding of who you are and what you want to do. We discuss one of the most common mistakes of those who write their copy or blogs which is putting themselves in the centre of the picture, rather than prioritising the readers; the people they are trying to reach out to. He lists three most common “mistakes” which are: They prioritise creating a list of the services they provide, leading to; Lose their unique value proposition Neglect their value proposition We also covered how businesses would basically just talk about a lot of things about themselves in their websites, when in fact what they really need is to find out how they could be of value to their target market. Martin touched on the importance of selling the “Sizzle, not the sausage” – which can be said as selling the benefits, not the features. This if often an effective mantra in sales. Martin also points out that more than performing a SWOT analysis on yourself, it is also important that you question yourself what your SWOT analysis is not about what you do, rather, it is about. Value proposition is not about what you do, but the needs or wants that you are trying to meet. We discussed the importance of staying authentic in your writings at the same time selective of what you say. People need not to know about things that are irrelevant to them. Martin also shared in which areas do people normally go wrong when writing their copy, which includes: Not having any strategy, i.e. when they are going to write, how often should they write, and or what they should write about. Although it is okay to post some content not directly related to your business as it would show who you really are, you have to be mindful as to not rub your audience the wrong way. Too neglectful of spelling, and other grammatical errors. We also discussed the importance of letting an expert help you with areas that you know you may be lacking. Lastly, Martin shares with us his top three things that an entrepreneur could do in order to improve their message across their customer-base: Address the needs Use active verbs Check your post/writing before you publish Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self? Find out as soon as possible what you really want in life and have the courage to go for it. Question 2 – What would you lecture at University today? In this week’s podcast, I interviewed Lee Jackson – an international motivational speaker and presentation coach who has written 12 books and since 2017, he has been the president of the Professional Speaking Association in the UK and Ireland. Both Lee and I understand the power of presentation as a tool in getting our messages across to our existing and potential clients and today we talk about some valuable tips and tricks to up our presentation game! In the 30th episode of the Be Your Best in Business™ we talk about how sometimes we need to learn the hard way i.e. Lee started his career talking to a hundreds of students as he started speaking in schools, which made him realise he needed to get good at talking quickly. Lee shares how doing a presentation is not about DELIVERING a script, it is actually about ENGAGING an audience. Without engaging your audience, your presentation will become boring. We also talked about how if you are unable to explain your point to a 6 year old, you don’t really understand it yourself. Lee explained how important it is to avoid loading up too much information on to our presentations, keep the details in the handouts, they’ll read it afterwards. He also talked about how important it is NOT to deliver your presentation the same way everyone else does, this would bore the audience. In this episode, it is always important to consider the audience and how audience always thinks WIIFM (What’s in it for me?). He also talked about how during presentations we need to remember that our SLIDES are never our TALKS. You are the SLIDES, not the TALK and also how important it is to be confident and not hide behind your laptops when doing your presentations. Lastly, Lee shares with us 3 top tips and tricks on how we can improve our presentation skills. They are: Get to the CORE of your message – Figure out what you really want to say. Tell more stories – engage with your audience! Be your 125% -- Be a hundred percent you on the stage, BUT be 25% bigger because you are doing a presentation. In this episode I sat down with Rob Sayles, a DIGITAL marketing expert (who is also backed with over 20 years of marketing experience) who runs a Facebook academy on top of coaching, mentoring and developing businesses and today we get to talk about Facebook as a powerful tool in business. Rob shares how Facebook is the biggest social media platform, far bigger than Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. as well as how it has evolved over the years since it first came out. We talked about how the platform has matured and has become a very effective tool that one can use for both personal and business use. Rob also touched on the Facebook algorithm – how it works, weeds through the content of the users post to determines which ones are relevant. He also shared Facebook’s plans on improving the platform. We tackled how Facebook and any online platforms for that matter, are harvesting data about how you use the platform and this data creates a database which can be used by businesses very effectively. Rob talked about how Facebook can help you organically grow your audience without the use of Facebook ads by harnessing Facebook pages, and groups. Rob also shares the two primary methods of how his business is able to help others: Establish Brand Awareness – helping a client build his brand awareness (on Facebook) through organic method i.e. making use of pages and groups, and creating “interesting” contents. Using Facebook’s Paid Products – effectively using ads, etc. to reach new audiences. In this episode, we also discussed how Facebook Retargeting works and how a cold lead is transformed into warmer leads as it goes down through the sales funnel. Rob explains how Facebook Pixel fits into this. In today’s episode, we also get to hear Rob’s adventure when he was invited by Facebook to attend an event in Brussels recently. Lastly, we got Rob to give us three tips and techniques on how to grow our businesses on Facebook: Catch people’s attention with your content in three seconds or less! Make an impact in that short span of time. Video is King! Incorporate videos into your contents. Generate a Pixel! Even if you have no plans of running a paid Facebook advertising yet, be sure to generate Pixel, it helps you in harvesting data. Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self? Do what you love and build up your tribe. Question 2 – What is the one BIG learning point that change how you now do your business? Taking imperfect actions, not polishing something to the nth degree. Things change so fast that you need to get out there and actually let the market decide whether what you’re offering is suitable or not. Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision? Doing courses and taking up mentorship. You should never stop learning – there’s always somebody out there that’s going to be better than you in certain things. Dr. Mahayana Dugast is a success mentor, author, and the founder of the NeuroBiology Reprogramming™ -- NBR™. With 30 years of experience, Dr. Dugast aims to help individuals reach their full potential while improving their personal empowerment at the same time and in this interview she helps us take a deeper look at ourselves and how we tick. In this episode, we discussed why people DO things that other people DON’T, and why others DON’T do those things that others would. Dr. Dugast also shares the role of the subconscious mind and how it influences in what we think, feel, do, and don’t do. She also talked about how our businesses are merely reflections of US as entrepreneurs. We also covered how each of us are powerful, and has so much potential that life demands us (by throwing challenges our way ) to expand regardless of where we are right now. Dr. Dugast also reminded us of the words of Albert Enstein that if we want to create something different, we have to think differently about it – and doing so involves tapping into our personal values and belief systems. We also covered NBR™ which she describes as a three step method of the knowledge and application of how an individual function as a being. We also touched on how it is different from NLP which is using the conscious mind; NBR™ is a way of life. She also discussed how there is no general recipe to success, as each of us are different from each other and what works for one may not work for others. We also touched on how it is not ideal to reprogram your conscious mind because your conscious mind – your behaviour, your language is the RESULT of and NOT the CAUSE of the problem. Dr. Dugast talked about EXTRAORDINARY intelligence -- the natural intelligence which is your ability to access your superior mind – this includes inspiration, and innovation among others. She also shares the 3 backbones of NBR™. They are: Modern Mindfulness: Turning adversity to your advantage. Break Down Who You Are: Understand how you tick. In this episode of the Be Your Best in Business™, I had the privilege to sit down with Michael Dash, and talk not only of his success with his business and philanthropy, BUT as well as how he overcame his “personal demons”. This interview allowed us to discuss how the change in our way of thinking can also change our perspective in life, thus leading for us to see the opportunities hidden somewhere in every challenge. In this episode Michael and I discussed how the people whom we spend a good amount of our time with (especially while growing up) can really influence – either positively or negatively – on how we grow up. Michael shared with us that while he was a gambling and drug addict when he was younger, he was also honing his entrepreneurial skills at the same time. He also shared how he went “chasing the high” back then. He discussed how he overcame his addictions – which basically started with a little argument with his brother on their way home for Thanksgiving, which brings us back to the influence the people we are close with have on our lives. In this interview, we also get to talk about how he overcame his gambling addiction – and it started with a “short-term goal” of DON’T gamble tomorrow. (This shows how short-term goals can really help us change something for the long-term.) We also discussed how he started his business, and how he ended up in Utah when he had a full-time job in New York. He shared how his decisions back then revolved around money, and how he went where the money is. He touched on how even when he was already able to conquer his addictions, he was still on a roller coaster ride – sharing that he has an on-going lawsuit with his ex-business partner, and how he did not know how to deal with it a couple of years ago, and how a trip to Bali helped him change his perspective, and helped him cope up with his negative emotions. Michael talked about his efforts to help those who went through addiction just like him, and that includes a series he calls “FATE (From Addicts To Entrepreneur)”. We also get to touch on the topic of “FLOW” which is a mental state that allows us to become more productive and get more out of life. This week I sat down with Connor Gillivan from the US, he is definitely someone to talk to when it comes to leverage – he is one of the brilliant minds behind FreeeUp.com, a successful business that revolves around leveraging. In this digital era where we get to connect with each other regardless of distance, it is really important to realise that we can’t always do it on our own, we need to know our options, especially when it means lowering our costs AS WELL AS allowing us to work on what truly matters to our businesses. In this episode, we talked about outsourcing as a form of leverage -- what it would mean to the business, its pros, as well as its consequences. Connor shared how important it is for the business owners or the management to figure out their own systems and processes before they leverage parts of their businesses. Gordon is a multi-world award winning kickboxing champion, a business coach, a mentor, an author, and a black belt – he is indeed a well-accomplished man! But how did he become the man he is today? Did he have it easy? In this episode we get a glimpse of Gordon’s journey – the challenges he faced, and the backstory to his success. Today, he will help us start the year off right by sharing with us his best tips, techniques, and tricks on how to get back into shape (after the holidays), and how to stay focused continually on our fitness throughout the year. In this episode, we talk about how Tommy found his “WHY”, and how his family has responded to it as he discovered it at a relatively young age. We also talked about why most of us are very eager to work on our fitness in January, but never really follow through for the rest of the year. He covers how you become “excuse-proof” when it comes to working out. We also discussed three habits that we could all do that will help us in our quest of losing those extra pounds. Move a little bit more – Use the stairs instead of the lift! Involve other people – You are at your best when you get the support of the people closest to you. In this episode we also tackled how sometimes it is difficult for some people to take the first step towards a better health and fitness practice. Tommy shares that there are two ways that people are challenged to change, it is either they had an experience that scared them OR they get inspired. Personal philosophy is key and this has to be as genuine and as honest, as organic, and as open as much as possible in order to inspire others. Tommy and I discussed the importance of knowing the power of your responsibility because the things we do creates expectations (in terms of the HOW, the WHAT, and the WHY). As you may know, every single guest that I had at “Be Your Best in Business” is a successful entrepreneur, businessman or businesswoman and in one way or another. Normally in these interviews I ask them how they cope up with work life balance. Are they good at it? Are they any different when they are in and out of the office? How do they spend their times outside the walls of their businesses? In this episode, I have gathered all the work life balance clips from all my previous interviews so that we can really look into it, see if there is a formula on how to do it, and how everyone is doing in this area. People have a notion that we need to have a 50-50 work life balance, BUT it does not have to be. Today, I am sharing with you how 11 different business minded people (all were guests in this podcast) deal with work-life balance. We will be covering what each one of these guests has say regarding work-life balance. I am sure that we can all learn a thing or two from them. John Kettley – He practices a three step strategy for everything, including his work life balance. He shared with us how he plans the following year during the window between the current Christmas and New Year’s days. Andrew Bridgewater – He shares the importance of “recharging” to prevent burning out especially if you are in corporate. He also emphasises that work life balance is different for each person, what works for you does not necessarily work for me. It is complex BUT you will surely know when your work life is in imbalance, because more than anyone else, you know yourself. Nick James – Nick says he’s not cracked work life balance yet, BUT he discusses how your health and fitness contributes success in your business. Charlie Mullins – Charlie talked about being not good in terms of work life balance, saying that he might have worked more than he played. But they have a gym (among many cool things) in the Pimlico building that is accessible to their employees! Susan Botfield – She discussed how important it is to say “NO” in order to keep your work life balance. She also talked about how her fitness contributed to her work life balance. Chris Rodwell – I caught up with Chris while he was in Lisbon, where he detailed how he structures everything he does for the week (And since he’s in Lisbon, it includes going to the beach)! Stephanie Davies – Stephanie shares how she keeps her Saturday morning gym routine, and also how important is it for her to keep her non-negotiables. She also talked about how important it is to follow her routine as it allows her to sometimes just be Stephanie and not Laughology’s Stephanie. Andrew McBarnett – We can say Andrew “does not” have work life balance, he takes his wife to his business trips. He shares how important it is to integrate your work into your life, and vice versa. Mick Holloway – When I interviewed Mick, they just had a new addition to the family and they are happy. He shares that he brings his day forward by going to bed early, and getting up early. Kalpesh Patel – He manages his work life balance by really knowing what his priorities are, really understanding what’s important, and then living his life according to those. James Burtt – James says that he does not consider work life balance, just BALANCE. He says sometimes he gets it right and sometimes not. He says that if you are looking at your life and work as two separate things then you are not doing what your CALLING is. Kalpesh Patel has decades of experience, and since they say experience is the best mentor, he shares them with us so that we too learn from them. He is truly an inspiring entrepreneur, and what is significant about him is that he is still very humble, down to earth regardless of his successes through the years. In this episode, we talked about how he brought Les Brown to the UK, what he did to make it possible, and how successful was it. We also get to discuss how Kalpesh deals with work-life balance. He shared that although you need to spend time with the people you love, your family, it is also important that when you have a passion that needs to be delivered to the world, you really have to do it. He then shares that he does not believe in the old school way of thinking that in order to pursue your passion, you have to give up everything. Instead he says that BALANCE is key because life in itself is unpredictable. We also tackled the importance of leverage, and how it helps you and your business grow. Kalpesh tell us what he is up to (business-wise) at the moment where he also discusses the importance of creativity, and innovation when going to business, which includes his latest venture, crowdfunding for tech ideas. In this episode, we are joined by Kalpesh Patel, the one and only “Relentless Entrepreneur”. He is often dubbed as one of the most dynamic, and inspirational speaker in the UK. As an entrepreneur, his experience dates back to the age of 11. The great thing about him is that he is a resilient man, he had his ups and downs in both his personal and business life, but he still managed to bounce back and help others get better in both areas. In this episode, Kalpesh shares how his journey to success did not start and end with him getting into business and moving forward, rather that his success is a result of learning the hardships that his grandparents had to endure (given that they are of Indian descent). Kalpesh also shares the importance of the power of having the desire to “make something happen”. We also talked about how important “family” is. Kalpesh is a family-oriented guy who puts his family first for the decisions he made in life. The “Drive for Business” integrated business strategy system may be a mouthful but to sum it up, it is based on the DRIVE model that we had for individual and Exec training, so we DECIDE what we want to do, REVIEW how we're going to do it, INTERROGATE our capabilities, VISUALISE and design your plan, and EXECUTE the plan. In this episode, I am breaking down the “DRIVE for Business” integrated business model, and will be covering the 5 key elements that we need to consider to make your business successful. The purpose of this is to help you effectively create a revenue, create extra value for your customers, and get yourself a sustainable business that YOU RUN, rather than the business RUNNING YOU. The five key areas that we are going to be focusing on today are: Business Development: Where are your customers coming from? How are you looking after them? People Planning: This involves the people working for you, or if you do not have employees, this is about your network and understanding who you’ve got in your network and how are you using your network. Commercial and Finance Involves knowing your numbers, knowing where your money is coming from, and where your money is going to. Business Performance This is about understanding where your company’s going into, strategically. Is your business performing well? Are you being productive? Are you being efficient with your time? Personal Development If you’re developing as a person, and you are the one leading your customers on a journey, then the more you know, and the more you are adding value for your business. I have also broken each area down into three sections: Business Development Marketing – What is your USP (Unique Selling Proposition)? What sets you apart from your competition? Sales Pipeline – This includes looking at your customer avatar; who are they and what do they need. Customer Service – It is important to take care of your customers because they are your FREE advertising. People Planning: Team Structure – Is your structure okay for change, is it available to change, and is it resilient to change Networking – No man is an island. You have to fill the gaps in your network. Team Building and Employee Engagement – This covers understanding why people are doing what they do. Commercial and Finance Income – Where’s your money coming from? How’s your money coming in? And how quickly are you getting paid? Costs – Do you really know your costs? Sometimes you don’t need to touch your sales to improve your business, sometimes you only need to control your costs! Risks – Assess and face your risks! Business Performance Productivity – this covers measuring outputs; how do we measure it? Time Management – This includes prioritising tasks, knowing how to maximise your time. Reporting - What are your KPIs? What comes up? You need to keep track of your business through reports. Personal Development Work-Life Balance – This is all about preventing burn outs, making sure you are re-energised, and getting time to relax. Learning and Development – This is about adding something of value to your business. We need to align the learning to your value. Healthy Eating and Fitness – You are what you eat! Stay healthy. Ian Adkins is a business change consultant, with 13 years of experience. In this episode, we are going to talk about business change, and business culture. Ian's company, Futures by Design, has a huge client base around the world, and he's got an interesting system which will help us in managing change, understanding cultures, and understanding their impacts in our businesses. And he will discuss this system with us today. Ian shares with us how transitioned to his current career from serving in the army. He also talks about how his company, Futures by Design, is focused to bring people change, as well as behavioural change to businesses, both large and small. We tackled how people are the most complex, interesting, and fascinating part of the business. We also talked about the importance of employee engagement, as well as the importance of quality over quantity, when it comes to these engagements. In this episode, we discussed how important it is to have meaningful relationships within the organisation; relationships built on trust. Once you got that TRUST, real communication begins, and everything flows. We also talked about how culture is described as what people do when nobody is looking. Ian shares that what people do is behaviour, and the currency of change is behaviour, YET what people think and feel does not necessarily show in their behaviours. We also discussed how behaviour is something you can see, you can observe, you can record, you can measure, AND you can also CHANGE. The simple equation is CULTURE = BEHAVIOURS. Ian shares how important it is for the management to focus on their behaviours, focus on what they want their people to be doing, get the behaviours right, embed those in the company, and then allow everything else to align with it. Ian also discussed that there are two things that are pivotal or central to the success they’ve had. One of which is to be looking at long-term all the time -- look after all the people that you deal with because several years later, they may come back as a client. Secondly, to just be relentlessly positive and optimistic, however things go. Lastly, Ian also shared with us his 5 rules of the organizational culture change framework. And they are: Actions First Let’s define the small number of behaviours or actions which everybody needs to carry out to create a culture. And just focus on a small number of key behaviours. Aim Higher Get people to focus on a course, on something that engages people. Authenticity Leads Humans are social animals, we operate in small teams, in little tribes, and what we do as soon as we join one, we absorb into it, but within that group there are one or two that is/are more influential than others, and they are the authentic informal leaders. If the management can identify these people, they can imprint the desired behaviour into everybody else. Activism Delivers To create the change, we need to organize these authentic leaders into a movement of activists, we can turbo charge the change. Autonomy Wins This only happens the management can empower their people to make it happen. Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self? It’s all going to be fine. Believe in yourself, and trust your own instinct. Question 2 – What would you Lecturer at University today Human Behaviour. Culture Change. Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision Education. I invested a lot of money to personal development, both in pure education and in personal development training. It’s a changing world, and we need to continually adapt! Stephanie shares that her business model is a result of her experiences in school. She talks about how there is a different way to learning, to doing business. As she was once disengaged at school, she became passionate that there is a different way to educate, there is a different way to engage young people. She talked about how in college, she was interested in comedy, and she wrote her dissertation about women in comedy, and how stand-up comedy became an avenue to talk about women’s rights, a different way of thinking, about women in performance, and in the world. And because she had to do a performance to match her dissertation, she started her stage performances as a stand-up comedienne. We discussed about the importance of engagement, may it be employee engagement, or with your audience. We talked about the importance of being able to connect with the people that we are working with. He is a Certified Master Coach by the Coaching Standards Authority, and in this episode, he shares with us how he transitioned from a 9-5 job, to traveling around the world (we did the interview while at his home in Lisbon, Portugal). Chris shared how he was once stuck in a 9-5 job, not feeling fulfilled, getting stressed out, and then deciding that he did not want to do that anymore. He talked about how he, just like a lot of other people, hit a crossroad and he became unhappy with what he was doing. But he did not give up, he made a number of decisions which included some that didn’t go so well to try and figure out what he really wanted to do. In this episode, we talk about the importance of building a network, this in Chris’ eyes is critical and he shares with us how he connects with the right people. We also discussed, how in the entrepreneurial space, you will get so many options, that sometimes it will totally overwhelm you, and he talk about how to deal with them. We also covered how Chris started off in in the property business and its pros and cons, and how it worked for both Chris and me. Chris talked about how important it is to adapt a business strategy that works for you, because although all strategies do work in some way shape or form, not all will work for you. He tackled the importance of helping people understand what their strengths are, what is it that they are striving for and understanding what is their natural genius. Chris also discussed one of the core programs that he practices – The 5 Step Freedom Formula, which covers following 5 key steps: Foundation: This is basically about having a clear understanding of where you are right now, and where you want to be. (Your WHY!) Flow: At this stage, you will be given an opportunity to take a profiling test (Wealth Dynamics), which will let you know which of the 8 entrepreneurial profiles fits you. Finances: This is where Chris’ team will come into action, looking into your finances and help you out. The reason that I have put the e-book (Master Your Time and Get More Done in 10 Easy Steps) together, was to help people understand about time management and how can they get more out of their day. My programs in general circle around looking at your “why”, looking at your purpose, looking at your values, understanding your mindset and understanding your internal and external influences. This book focuses down on time management and getting more done in those same minutes everyone has every day. I have put together 10 easy steps, which I will be breaking down in this podcast. Each step comes with an action point, so I suggest you get a pen and a paper handy while listening! So, here are the steps: Planning 101 If you want to become successful, if you want to improve your personal and business life, then you need to have your own personal business development plan. Planning allows you to get more things done, stay out of stress, being more productive, and enjoying what we do. Action Point – Get an A4 sheet of paper and start planning your week ahead. Work out what commitments have you already got in your week ahead, what actions and tasks do you want to do. Then start taking a focused look at that plan every single night before the next day to make sure that you are fully prepared. Social Media Meltdown Social media may hinder your productivity, thus you need to be very careful on how you use it. As they say, everything in moderation. Action Point – Make yourself a commitment that you are not going to check your social media accounts until you have completed your important tasks. Avoiding Interruptions The normal office setup these days is made up of multi-stakeholder teams and layouts, so it is easy to say that interruptions will come from anywhere. It is important to find out where you are most likely going to get interrupted from so that you can plan out how to manage these interruptions, which most of the time is solved by merely learning to say “NO”. Action Point – at the start of the day, try to anticipate when and where you will be interrupted during your day, and try to keep yourself focused and avoid and manage the interruptions. Get Fit for Business Take opportunities to keep yourself fit and keep your brain and body hydrated. Eat healthy, and exercise! Action Point – Next week, make sure you do a little bit of exercise, make sure you’re thinking about getting that exercise, and make smarter food choices (ditch that chocolate!) . Delegate and Use Your Network Understand where you are sitting in the organisation, as well as the capabilities, training, and needs of both you and your team. Delegating means empowering those in lower level, giving them room to grow. Action Point – Take out your current to-do list (if you have one) and break down all the areas where you think you could delegate, and give it to someone else. Do this, and watch at the end of the week how productive you have become. Categorise Your Tasks When you start categorising your tasks, and put them into specific categories (i.e. team work, project work, personal tasks), then you are going to get more things done because you will focus on particular tasks in one particular area at the same time. Action Point – Take look at your current weekly to-do list, break it down, and group those items into categories, and then put them into a schedule (into the week). This will then help you focus. Celebrate and Record Success This is about empowering your teams, giving them more work to do, and getting them to work productively. Action Point – At the end of each day, record what went well, and what didn’t go so well. Summarise it, learn from it, and share it with your team. This is about effective feedback, making sure that we are recognising the people who are working for us. Set Up Sunday By setting up yourself on a Sunday, it enables you to get ready for the week ahead. Action Point – Find yourself a spot on Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, or Sunday evening and then get a piece of paper, start planning out the week, make sure to prepare for all the commitments that you got, and also add those tasks that are purposeful. This will give you good results. Act Rather than Re-act This is about taking calculated control, taking a step back if you think that you got into a situation where you get into a flash point, take a deep breath and don’t react to it. Stay nice and calm. Action Point – Be proactive. Try to think about the possible instances when you get into conflicts, and remind yourself to stay calm. Book Yourself a Meeting Schedule a “YOU” time, this will help you focus on what you want to achieve. If you go into a quiet place where you can fully focus, you will get things done quicker. But you can only do this if you commit that specific time to be yours alone. Action Point – Look at your week ahead and book your “YOU” time, do yourself an agenda, get yourself prepared, go off a quiet nice place, and just try out and see how you get on. In this episode I share with you why keeping a diary or a to-do list won’t necessarily help you. You can’t just go on a Time Management Course and then be productive, you need to understand what your main purpose is and how you are being measured against your KPI’s. As mentioned, if we want to improve ourselves, we have to do things differently. But first off, we need to make some decisions! Identifying your WHY as a professional is key, however today episode is about understanding the fundamentals and working out how they all link together. These 5 elements are what I focused on over the last 6 years that helped me double my salary in the corporate world. The 5 factors that are sequentially linked together are; Leadership Development We need to understand the Fundamentals of Leadership, and understanding how we tick, why we tick, why we do things the way we do and why we behave in such a way. It is also important to understand how we fit in the organisation and structure. Personal Performance How are we actually performing at work? Are you putting your weight? I can’t stress enough, we need to understand what we’re doing, what we’re trying to do, and why we’re doing it. In our careers, we need to correctly identify our key performance indicators and ensure that we are achieving them. Health and Well-being Although people usually forget about it, we need to understand that health and well-being is a very important key to being a productive leader. That is why, it is necessary to make sure we get our work-life balance just right. In this section, I also discuss the importance of effective communication. Business Performance How is the whole business performing? Do you know where your individual performance contributes to the whole companies? How is your team performing? As a confident and consistent leader, you should always know the answers to these questions. Team Development Team building and team development is one of my favourite things to do. Team building is fun and empowering, but it is also important to talk about the reason why you building your team. We need to understand where other stakeholders are fitting into this, we want to have an inspired team, a team that is happy to be working with you. In this section, I discuss how to build an inspired team. At the end of the day, it is all about taking ACTION and adding massive VALUE to your organisation as a Leader.
