In this conclusion of the Bluegrass Beat case study: Seeking Savannah, Richmond Police Sgt. Kelli Fraze discusses her agency's experience as the high-profile missing person's case turned toward seeking justice for a murdered young Kentucky mother—Savannah Spurlock.Fraze, who was one of the case's lead investigators, speaks about steps taken, lessons learned, gaining information from technology and more. Richmond Police Chief Rodney Richardson also talks about the hard work and dedication from his department that led to the case's resolution, and Savannah's aunt, Lisa Thoma, talks about the family's interaction with RPD and what Savannah was like while she was living.…Special Notes from Richmond Sgt. Kelli Fraze on investigations and the Spurlock case.“(Investigations) can be, and will be, a long exhausting process. Every single piece of physical evidence you collect, every detail of the information you have gathered or processed over time is significant, and it's ok if things need to be done a second time. Leave no room for human error. It's all worth it, and it's all necessary. You must challenge your opponent, continue learning and keep trying. Find the people that's going to make this possible. It is your duty to exhaust all possibilities and find the truth in the stories being told, to speak for the innocent and to seek justice.”I want to note that Sgt. Casey Scott did a phenomenal job with developing this case against David Sparks. We all did what we thought was best or most helpful. But what matters most in the end is pen to paper. Being capable of taking on all the demands of putting it all together and developing proof beyond a reasonable doubt, especially in this type of case, is exceptional.”Sgt. Fraze also cited the importance that a trusted family/victim's advocate through the FBI played in developing a relationship with Savannah's family. The advocate served as Fraze's negotiator when stressful situations arrived and helped her connect the family to many beneficial resources. Additionally, the RPD sergeant noted that sites, such as Leads Online, provided amazing resources that helped teach her how to write warrants for technology companies and connect her with the company's tech portals to obtain information. Savannah Spurlock, mother of 4, went missing on January 4th, 2019 after a night out in Lexington. Savannah's remains were located on July 10th, 2019. David was charged and plead guilty to Savannah's murder in December 2020.
In 2019 a 22 year old mother of four went missing after her first night out on the town after giving birth to Twin boys a month earlier. The town of Lexington, KY and eventually the country was captivated by the story and a quick investigation revealed she had left the bar with three men she didn't know and was never seen again. Her body was found 6 months later in a shallow grave and police were able to put an evil man behind bars, but not for as long as many had hoped. Music by GioeleFazzeri from Pixabay

22 year old Savannah Spurlock was a vivacious and spunky mother of four in January of 2019. Taking advantage of an opportunity for a night out, she and a friend went to a bar to let loose and enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, Savannah's last moments are caught on a surveillance camera as she leaves with 3 men she had met that night. Endless searches came up as dead ends time and time again in the months following her disappearance. Police honed in on a suspect and unfortunately her remains were found 7 months later in a shallow grave. The man responsible has been put behind bars but it doesn't seem like enough. This case is disappointing on so many levels, but most of all because her loved ones have still not received closure on how their mother, sister, daughter, and friend was killed.

On January 4, 2019, 22-year-old Savannah Spurlock wanted a night out on the town. A few weeks prior, Savannah had given birth to twins making her a mother of 4 young children. Her mother, Ellen, could see that she needed a break so after her older children were tucked safely into their beds, Savannah went out with a girlfriend to a bar in Lexington, KY around 10pm. This was supposed to be a night filled with fun and a chance to cut loose. The evening didn't go as planned after Savannah and her friend got into an argument and separated. Savannah later left the bar with three men she had met that evening. Savannah called her mother via face time and let her know that everything was fine and that she would be home in a few hours. This was the last time that anyone would speak to her Savannah. The police asked for help from the public in identifying the men that Savannah was with the night she went missing. By the end of January, all three men that Savannah interacted with on the night of her disappearance were identified and questioned. According to one of the men, David Sparks, Savannah had come back to his home with him and that she eventually left later that morning, but he did not know where she was. However, on July 10, 2019 human remains would be found at a home in Garrard County. This would be the home of David Sparks. If you have any information regarding the death of Savannah Spurlock please call the Richmond Police department at 859-623-8911.Update- On August 28, 2019, David Sparks was indicted for the murder of Savannah Spurlock. This episode was co-researched and written by Marissa Jones and Erika Gwynn. On January 4, 2019 Savannah Spurlock, a 22 year-old mother of 4 who had given birth to twins just a month earlier, was told by her mother that she should take a break and go have some fun. So with grandma watching the kids, Savannah did just that - she and two friends went to downtown Lexington Kentucky for a night on the town and ended up at a place called The Other Bar. After one friend left to be ready for an early day the next morning and the second friend left after she and Savannah had an argument, Savannah stayed at The Other Bar until security cameras caught her leaving with three men. From there the story gets weird - and not for reasons one might think. Savannah has not been seen or heard from since the early morning hours the following morning. But this isn't just the story of a missing young woman - it is also the story of her family, who from virtually the moment they realized Savannah was missing, did not hesitate and did not wait. This incredible group of loved ones is fully engaged in every way - including some very unique and creative ways - to find their daughter/niece/granddaughter. Join Melissa as she re-tells the agonizing-yet-hopeful tale of the disappearance of Savannah Spurlock - and the family that is determined to bring her home.
