In this Week in Religion, Fred Bodimer looks at the rise in church attendance following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, with nearly 100,000 people attending his memorial and reports of packed churches across the country. He also covers a hate crime at a Jewish fraternity at Syracuse University during Rosh Hashanah, where pork was thrown into the house, leading to charges against two students. The segment wraps with a discussion on a viral Rapture prophecy from a South African man, explained in context by historian Randall Balmer, and the broader conversation about apocalyptic beliefs and marginalization.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Adam Gilchrist for today’s World View, connecting live via Zoom. First up, international momentum is building around the recognition of a Palestinian state, with several countries signalling support — raising questions about timing, global diplomacy, and long-term peace prospects in the Middle East. Then, concern is growing in Germany after a disturbing antisemitic incident made headlines — a stark reminder of rising hate crimes across Europe and the fragile balance between free speech and hate speech enforcement. Finally, it’s Tesla back in the spotlight — but this time, not for innovation. The EV giant is finally addressing a long-criticised design flaw in its car doors, sparking conversations about accountability, user safety, and whether the shine is wearing off Elon Musk’s prized brand. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. On Sept. 19, Prime Minister Mark Carney's government unveiled a series of planned changes to Canada's criminal code. They, in part, crack down on the explosion of hate crimes across the country over the past two years since Oct. 7, mostly against Jewish people. The new bill is called the “Combatting Hate Act” and still has a way to go before it is passed and takes effect. Ottawa intends to make it a crime when hateful protesters try to scare and intimidate minorities, including Jews, from accessing their community buildings, including synagogues, Jewish Community Centres, Jewish seniors homes, Hebrew schools and even cemeteries. The new law would also, for the first time, outlaw the public display of the Nazi swastika and the SS symbol in Canada, as well as other terrorism signs, if the people waving them are wilfully urging hatred against an identifiable group. Many Jewish leaders are applauding the gesture as a strong signal that the Carney administration is keeping an election promise while putting a strong emphasis on fighting domestic antisemitism–that even while Canada announced on Sept. 21 it has formally recognized the Palestinian State, the government does not want to drag Middle Eastern politics onto Canadian soil. So what's in the new bill? Will it make it safer for Jews today, as the High Holidays begin? The short answer is: no. On today's episode of The CJN's _North Star _podcast, hate crimes legal expert Mark Sandler—founding chair of the Alliance of Canadians Combatting Antisemitism—joins host Ellin Bessner to break down the proposed reforms. Also joining is Ezra Shanken, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, who personally met with the prime minister in Ottawa just days before the announcement. A York County man is being charged with assault but not with a hate crime after attacking an L-G-B-T-Q community member. Pennsylvania’s laws do not include protections against hate directed at people for their gender identity or sexual orientation, though Democratic lawmakers are trying to change that. Environmental groups and the PA Department of Environmental Protection have reached a $2.6 million settlement with a plastic manufacturer for polluting Raccoon Creek in Beaver County, northwest of Pittsburgh. And a deeper dive: In our increasingly online world, lots of people struggle today to find connections with other people. State and federal investigators are still reviewing the facts surrounding the Annunciation Catholic School and Church shooting last Wednesday. Some local and national leaders have used the terms “hate crime” and “domestic terrorism” to describe the shooter's attack on students and other churchgoers last week. FBI Director Kash Patel said the shooting will be investigated as an anti-Catholic hate crime. Things may be more complicated than that, since the specifics around the shooter's motives are not yet clear. Jessica Hodge, a professor of Justice and Society Studies at the University of St. Thomas, joined Minnesota Now to break down how officials might look at defining the crime.
A newspaper looked into the claims and found zero evidence of any of it happening. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I consider it a Privilege to cover the True Foot Soldiers who were physically THERE during the Events that Changed History in American Civil Rights to All.My Guest is author Robert H. Mayer author of the book "In the Name of Emmett Till"Children played a significant role in Birmingham's crucial civil rights struggle, and this stirring history of the movement, with many photos, news reports, and quotes from all sides, emphasizes the connections between the young people's power and that of the big leaders. Martin Luther King called Birmingham the most segregated city in America, and his Letter from Birmingham Jail is quoted at length. But when the adults' protest lost momentum, the leaders' decision to call on young people galvanized the movement--Hazel RochmanRobert H. Mayer is the award-winning author of When the Children Marched: The Birmingham Civil Rights Movement and the editor of The Civil Rights Act of 1964. As a teacher, Mayer's passion continues to be making history relevant and accessible to young people. His time spent in Jackson, Canton, and McComb, Mississippi, as well as meeting scholars and activists integral to the civil rights movement, fueled the desire to write In the Name of Emmett Till. He lives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with his wife Jan, where he writes, teaches, and tutors youth in a local middle school. The 1955 murder of Emmett Till in Mississippi is widely remembered as one of the most horrible lynching's in American history. African American children old enough that year to be aware personally felt the terror of Till's murder. These children, however, would rise up against the culture that made Till's death possible. Over the next decade, from the violent Woolworth's lunch-counter sit-ins in Jackson to the school walkouts of McComb, the young people of Mississippi picketed, boycotted, organized, spoke out, and marched, determined to reveal the vulnerability of black bodies and the ugly nature of the world they lived in. These children changed that world.© 2025 Building Abundant Success!!2025 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud
This week, we dive deep into the messy, beautiful, and sometimes dangerous world of queer PDA (public displays of affection). From debates about what's “appropriate” to the very real risks of holding hands in the wrong neighborhood, this episode is as raw and real as it gets. We open up about our own experiences—navigating affection in front of kids, parents, church communities, and even at work events. How much of our hesitation is about “respect,” and how much is fear rooted in double standards? Straight PDA is normalized, but queer PDA is often policed, shamed, or even criminalized.

Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Jewish Couple Shot in Hate Crime The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show delivers a powerful and emotionally charged discussion centered on the tragic antisemitic double murder of a young couple in Washington, D.C., and the broader implications of rising antisemitism in America. Clay and Buck open the hour with breaking news about the passage of a major bill in the House of Representatives, highlighting its narrow approval and the expected path forward in the Senate. However, the focus quickly shifts to the horrific killing of two Israeli diplomats, a crime the hosts attribute to the dangerous rhetoric and ideology spreading across college campuses and left-wing political circles under slogans like “Globalize the Intifada.” The hosts condemn the mainstream media and political figures for their silence or tepid responses, calling out Representative Ilhan Omar for refusing to comment. They draw parallels between this attack and the October 7 Hamas terrorist massacre in Israel, emphasizing the moral inversion and ignorance among younger generations regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Buck Sexton, drawing on his background in Middle East studies and the CIA, provides historical and geopolitical context, arguing that Hamas’s actions are rooted in a desire to prevent peace in the region, particularly between Israel and Saudi Arabia. The conversation also explores the broader issue of selective outrage and hypocrisy in global human rights advocacy, pointing to the lack of attention to genocides in places like South Sudan. The hosts stress the importance of educating younger Americans about the realities of terrorism, antisemitism, and the existential threats faced by Israel. Sen. Rand Paul on the Big Beautiful Bill Later in the hour, KY Senator Rand Paul joins the show to discuss the implications of the newly passed House bill, particularly its impact on the national debt and fiscal conservatism. Paul criticizes the bill’s projected $4–5 trillion increase to the debt ceiling and warns that Republicans are abandoning their principles by supporting unsustainable spending. He advocates for entitlement reform and a return to fiscal responsibility, warning of the long-term consequences of unchecked deficits. Yael Eckstein reacts on hate crime from Israel Yael Eckstein, President and CEO of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, who offers a powerful response from Israel. She connects the attack to rising global antisemitism and the dangerous rhetoric emerging from pro-Palestinian protests on U.S. college campuses. Eckstein emphasizes the need for unity among Jews and Christians and praises former President Trump for his swift condemnation of the attack. Daniel Cameron on his Senate Run Former KY AG, Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Kentucky, on running to replace Mitch McConnell. Cameron discusses the recent tornado devastation in Kentucky, his campaign to replace Mitch McConnell, and his alignment with Donald Trump’s America First agenda. He emphasizes issues like border security, energy independence, and fighting DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies. Cameron also addresses the shifting political landscape, particularly how younger men across racial lines are moving away from the Democratic Party due to its stance on masculinity and traditional values.
