Police Shot During A Chase, Career Ending Injuries. In the quiet hours on May 25, a police officer's life changed forever. During what began as a routine investigation of a stolen vehicle in Romeoville, Illinois, Officer Dominic Thielmann was shot in the face and right shoulder in a dramatic foot chase that nearly claimed his life. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Now, Thielmann is speaking out about the incident, his long road to recovery, and how the near-fatal encounter has redefined his life, career, and mission. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Medium and most all social media platforms “I was chasing a suspect on foot, something that happens often in our line of work. I never imagined that night would end with a gun pointed at me and my life flashing before my eyes,” Thielmann said during an interview. Listen to the interview with him as a Free Podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. The shooting occurred around 12:15 a.m. near Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive in Romeoville. Thielmann and fellow officers had been investigating a stolen vehicle when the suspect bolted, prompting a pursuit that ended in a harrowing exchange of gunfire. Thielmann was struck, leaving him with injuries so severe they would ultimately end his career in law enforcement. Police Shot During A Chase, Career Ending Injuries. Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium, Blogspot and Linkedin. Despite his wounds, Thielmann survived. He was rushed to a Hospital in Maywood, where doctors stabilized him. Authorities later charged the suspect with armed robbery and set bond at $5 million, without the option of the usual 10% release. In a public statement, the Romeoville Police Department expressed its appreciation for the overwhelming support Thielmann and his family received. “The Romeoville Police Department would like to express sincere gratitude to those who have shown their support for Officer Thielmann and his family,” the department said in a news release. The Village of Romeoville, located about 26 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County, rallied around Thielmann. Community members, law enforcement colleagues, and officials alike offered support. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Medium and most all social media platforms. "The staff and the community really came together to support Dominic and our RPD family. We couldn't be more thankful," said Village Manager Dawn Caldwell. After six years with the department, most recently as a tactical officer in the Investigations Unit, Thielmann's days in uniform are now behind him. But his commitment to public service remains stronger than ever. “I can't do the job the way I used to,” he shared. “But that doesn't mean I'm done making an impact.” Thielmann has since redirected his energy toward helping others through Beyond The Dispatch, a podcast he co-created to share the stories of first responders and highlight the mental, emotional, and physical toll their careers can take. He uses his platform to shine a light on critical but often stigmatized issues like PTSD, trauma, and suicide among law enforcement officers and other emergency personnel. Police Shot During A Chase, Career Ending Injuries. The interview is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast website, also available on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major podcast outlets. “I've had so many officers, firefighters, and dispatchers reach out through Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), just to say thank you for talking about the things we're usually afraid to admit we're feeling,” Thielmann said. Through Beyond The Dispatch, Thielmann not only recounts his own experiences but also provides a space for others to share theirs. The podcast has become a growing social media presence and a trusted resource for first responders across the country. He admits that there are still many details about the shooting he cannot legally discuss due to the ongoing court proceedings, but he doesn't shy away from describing the pain, both physical and emotional, that followed the incident. Check out the show on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms. “The doctors told me I was lucky to be alive. The shot to my face could've ended it all,” he said. “I wake up every day with the effects of what happened. The injuries will never fully heal. But I choose to make them part of my purpose.” Thielmann's story is a sobering reminder of the risks police officers face daily. But it's also a story of resilience, transformation, and purpose after trauma. What could have ended his life has instead fueled a mission to support others in uniform. Police Shot During A Chase, Career Ending Injuries. “I may no longer wear the badge,” he said, “but I'll never stop serving.” You can follow Dominic Thielmann's journey and hear the the interview with him as a free Podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website als on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or most major podcast platforms. At a time when law enforcement faces unprecedented recruitment challenges, agencies often struggle to attract and retain candidates who embody the right mix of skills, values and emotional intelligence. While some departments rely on traditional methods, the Rochester Police Department (RPD) in New York has taken a bold and innovative approach. In this episode of the Policing Matters podcast, host Jim Dudley speaks with Sergeant Justin Collins, a veteran officer and director of RPD's Police Recruitment and Workforce Development, about the dynamic program he has created that not only recruits candidates but prepares them to succeed while fostering community connections. This program allows potential police officer candidates to participate in training and community engagement opportunities in preparation for the police exam. Initially designed to keep candidates engaged and create realistic expectations of the duties of a police officer, the program has evolved to include strategies designed to increase representation of women and racial and ethnic minorities from Rochester on the force. Which culminated in a conversation about Vincent Adultman, Muppetman, and three Squidges in a trenchcoat. But after that, Jay asked Zunderscore to introduce himself:Yeah, so I've been a streamer on Twitch for a little over three years now. I do a little bit of everything. So I do variety gaming. I do some coding, some design development kind of things. I am a developer on one of a pretty popular twitch chatbot called Firebot. So I spend a lot of my free time working on that. And yeah, that's, that's the big stuff. As far as gaming goes, I have a love for a lot of different genres, but RPG's, platformers, a little bit of strategy, a little bit of roguelike, that kind of thing really, really appeals to me. So I'll do the retro thing every once in a while. I actually have a fun little setup for that, which I enjoy. So. Yeah.— ZunderscoreAnd because Squidge spotted Zunderscore's red fedora in the background of his video, it kicked off a discussion on RedHat Fedora Linux, what it is, a high level description of how it differs from other Linux-on-the-desktop or Linux-on-the-server distros and how Zunderscore came to have an officially licensed Redhat red fedora. With Zunderscore being both a developer and a, self-proclaimed, Microsoft fanboy, Squidge brought up that Jay is a Microsoft MVP and has been for almost three years. In this conclusion of the Bluegrass Beat case study: Seeking Savannah, Richmond Police Sgt. Kelli Fraze discusses her agency's experience as the high-profile missing person's case turned toward seeking justice for a murdered young Kentucky mother—Savannah Spurlock.Fraze, who was one of the case's lead investigators, speaks about steps taken, lessons learned, gaining information from technology and more. Richmond Police Chief Rodney Richardson also talks about the hard work and dedication from his department that led to the case's resolution, and Savannah's aunt, Lisa Thoma, talks about the family's interaction with RPD and what Savannah was like while she was living.…Special Notes from Richmond Sgt. Kelli Fraze on investigations and the Spurlock case.“(Investigations) can be, and will be, a long exhausting process. Every single piece of physical evidence you collect, every detail of the information you have gathered or processed over time is significant, and it's ok if things need to be done a second time. Leave no room for human error. It's all worth it, and it's all necessary. You must challenge your opponent, continue learning and keep trying. Find the people that's going to make this possible. It is your duty to exhaust all possibilities and find the truth in the stories being told, to speak for the innocent and to seek justice.”I want to note that Sgt. Casey Scott did a phenomenal job with developing this case against David Sparks. We all did what we thought was best or most helpful. But what matters most in the end is pen to paper. Being capable of taking on all the demands of putting it all together and developing proof beyond a reasonable doubt, especially in this type of case, is exceptional.”Sgt. Fraze also cited the importance that a trusted family/victim's advocate through the FBI played in developing a relationship with Savannah's family. The advocate served as Fraze's negotiator when stressful situations arrived and helped her connect the family to many beneficial resources. Additionally, the RPD sergeant noted that sites, such as Leads Online, provided amazing resources that helped teach her how to write warrants for technology companies and connect her with the company's tech portals to obtain information. The Bluegrass Beat is recorded and produced by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training's Public Information Office, a proud member of Team Kentucky. Like what you hear? Welcome to Ravenbrook. A town in northern Maine where mystery grows like a crop, monsters lurk at in every tree line, and phantoms lurk in more shadows than not. In this week's first tale, we follow the exploits of an RPD beat cop from back in the 40s as he attempts to rid Ravenbrook of one of its oldest standing paranormal nuisances. We follow that with a tale from the days of the early internet. Could two young men from Ravenbrook really have stumbled upon the key to an interdimensional adventure? Safe to say that, if so, they bit off just a bit more than most of us could chew. Sit back and enjoy two more Tales From Ravenbrook! In case you haven't heard, Redding has a new Police Chief in town. Chief Brian Barner has been with the Redding Police Department for nearly 27 years and worked alongside former Chief Bill Schueller before being officially promoted to Chief in October 2023. He was unanimously selected by two different interview panels based on his work experience, dedication to the community, and overall knowledge and training.Chief Barner talks about his perspective on law enforcement in the Redding Community, what he thinks of Redding safety in general, and how he plans to address local quality of life issues. He talks about the local jail space mental health support for law enforcement, the rollout of body-worn cameras, and his plans for the future. His close connection to the community and the years of work alongside former Chief Schueller means that most of his goals aim to keep the good work going - from a fully staffed police force to new technology solutions - the community shouldn't expect a slowdown anytime soon. It's full steam ahead for RPD.Read the transcript >>Contact the City of Redding Podcast Team Email us at podcast@cityofredding.org Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Visit the City of Redding website Love the podcast?
