Today, we are finishing our look at the actions of love as Paul lays them out in 1 Corinthians 13.
Grace Free Lutheran Church Maple Grove, MN Love - Agape - The love of Christ 1. Love is a. Patient b. Kind 2. Love is not a. Me first b. Record keeper 3. Love always a. Protects b. Trusts c. Hopes d. Perseveres
Verses four through seven of Paul's first letter to the Corinthians gives us a definition of what agape love is by defining its actions and also by what it does not do. It is a beautiful succinct definition that all can relate to. When we read it, we are struck with the reality that God's love is so much greater than our own and with how much the world needs us to demonstrate that love.

In spite of so much talking and singing about love in our culture, we sometimes have a distorted view on love. The Bible gives us a clear picture of what love looks like. Today we are going through a passage written to the church in Corinth that was going through some problems. First I will Read the passage and then you tell me if you have a sense of what the problem or problems might be, okay?. 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Ok, did you catch the problem that the church was having? Let me put it like this. From verses 4 to 7 you have a poem about love. The romantic people call it a poem. The geeky people call in a definition. If you look at the outline you know which one we are. Just kidding. 15 definitions of love. Notice the first two are positive. Notice the last four are positive. And right in the middle, right in between are 9 definitions of love that are negative. Which leads me to wonder out loud whether Paul might have been a little Asian-American? Why so negative, why so much negativity? The list describes his readers! Because this was everything the church was. They were envious of each other. (They had factions. They were jealous of the abilities of one another) They would boast. They were arrogant. They were rude. (They got drunk at the Lord’s Table!) Each insisted on their own way. They were irritable They held grudges against each other. (They even took each other to court) They rejoiced at wrongdoing (one guy step with his stepmother and some people in the church applauded this and were proud of the person who did that!) For more, open the pdf. There are 2 video. The second one is in a language other than English, so you may want to watch that one.

Proverbs 27:4-6: When someone lets you down, can you choose to believe the best, or are you forced to believe the worst? Trust is a key component in every healthy relationship. So does the Bible expect us to lead our relationships with trust? In this message, we’re reminded that we have the power to choose our reactions—and the response we choose may make all the difference in our relationships.
Pastor Brandon Miller looks at the basics of love established in 1 Corinthians, and how they are illustrated in how Noah's family handled his drunkenness in the book of Genesis.

Real, true, healthy relationships are based on the fact and the foundation that I continually choose you every day. Likability is conditional; “I like you” means that you make me happy today, you did something to please me today; but tomorrow I’m ticked off because you made me mad and I no longer want to be your friend...Healthy relationships are based on the fact that I choose you every single day. And it’s the foundation of the relationship that we have with God--that God has with us. John 15:16: Jesus said, “You didn’t choose me, but I chose you, and I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is the command: love each other.” Foundational...to every good, healthy, godly relationship is “I choose you.”

Happy Mother's Day - Pastor Mike talks about the love of a Mother and how powerful that is. God gives mother's a special gift of love for their children. A love that protects, provides and promotes that He also offers to those that are His children as well. God's love is eternally powerful for those that chose to accept it and reflect it back to Him. With that choice, we are adopted into the family of God and then God protects, provides and promotes us, His child as a mother does for her children. God's plan for family far exceeds earthly realms. Listen in and be blessed as God offers His love to you...

Is the passion gone from your marriage? There are some simple things you can do to get things going again. It all starts with your promise to one another. Remember what you said. Remember what you did. Remember how you felt.
These days a lot of people are asking the same question, What is love? For many this questions is asked because they don’t want their baby, or anyone else, to hurt them no more…no more. Truthfully, almost everyone, at some point, has played their heart while another played their game and…it gave love a bad name. Yes, sometimes love stinks. But, some choose to ride the love roller coaster anyway. They search everywhere for this crazy thing called love. They have allowed themselves to be prisoners of love. They are addicted to love. But, deep in their soul, they know that they’ve lost that lovin’ feeling…oh that loving feeling. But, lets return the commonly asked question, What is love? Maybe, this crazy little thing called love is not so bad after all. Maybe love seems to bite, only because we have a poor vision of love. Perhaps there is a groovy kind of love, an endless love. What if, instead of thinking we love somebody, but wanting to know for sure, we could be certain? What if, instead of musing, I want to know what love is, we could define it in tangible ways – ways that we could live out. If this were true, perhaps then, we could see the power of love.

God, please give me patience...and hurry up! If you've ever felt that way, you're not alone. The way to get the patience you've been hungry for is...you'll have to be patient and listen to find out!
In life's tough times, we're sorely tempted to take our "remote controls" and push 1) fastforward to get the hard times over with, 2) mute to silence a friend who challenges our hearts, or 3) stop to call it quits when things are too hard. What we need to do is give the remote back to God and let him press play on a blessed, fruitful life!
In a direct, "keepin'-it-real" message, Envagelist Behzad Fathi bears out God's meaning of love and lays into man's self-serving version of love.
