Daniel East is back for a no-agenda episode that turns into Gig Gab therapy. You’ll hear about Brit Drozda’s fifth record in pre-production, unannounced pop-up gigs built from cajon, guitar, and keys, and the Rayvel grand opening on Florida’s Space Coast, where a rocket went up over the stage during Starman. Then Daniel gets into those moments of bliss you can’t fish for…the ones that arrive because you prepared enough to stop thinking. If you’re feeling it, they’re feeling it. And when a piece of the puzzle is missing, that’s your cue to admit a gig isn’t the right fit for you and be willing to walk. Then Dave takes the couch: three gigs in a row where he became the accidental sound savior. A theater where nobody knew how Dante was routed. An outdoor stage hard-panned left with monitors EQ’d to the disco smile. A club that handed him the iPad at line check. Daniel’s prescription: an expectations agreement when you don’t have a contract, an audio tech who also speaks IT, and permission to say no. Always Be Performing is real, but you set a standard, you don’t meet one. Plus: find your clock first, and Gear Gab on Earthworks drum mics, the Kompakt 421, and why a high-pass filter beats deep EQ cuts every time. 00:00:00 Gig Gab 544 – Monday, July 27th, 2026 July 27th: Barbie-in-a-Blender Guest co-host: Daniel East 00:03:53 Brit Drozda's new record 00:04:46 Pop-up gigs! This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit www.volts.wtf/subscribeProperty taxes are two taxes stapled together: one on the land, one on whatever gets built on it. Put up an apartment building and the bill goes up. Pave the lot for parking and it stays low. It discourages building and rewards land speculation. The answer? Tax the buildings less and the land more. The idea of a “land value tax” goes back 150 years, but implementing it today involves navigating tricky constitutional issues. In this episode, I talk with Greg Miller of the Center for Land economics about the rationale for such taxes, and with Kitty Klitzke, a Spokane, Washington council member, about the difficulties of putting it in practice in a real city. In this episode, Matt sits down with Jeff Lusk to talk cocker spaniels, field trials, hunting season plans, and what makes these little flushing dogs so addictive. Get my 9-Minute Kettlebell & Bodyweight Challenge FREE here: https://www.AleksSalkin.com In this episode of The Hammer Cast I do a deep dive into old-time strongman training with none other than Master SFG Pavel Macek. We talk about its integration into StrongFirst's methodology, how kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, and bodyweight work together, and the necessity of building all‑round strength to TRULY become strong and powerful like the old time strongmen. In this episode we discuss: Pave's path from martial arts to StrongFirst and old-time iron culture The lineage from classic strongmen (Sandow, Saxon, Gorner, Klein, etc.) into Pavel Tsatsouline's StrongFirst system The rationale behind Pavel Macek's Enter the Dumbbell (heavy, low-rep dumbbell lifting as a bridge and complement to kettlebells/barbells) The concept of becoming an "all‑round lifter" vs. a narrow specialist Pavel's new Kettlebell VIP (Vintage Iron Power) course, reviving historical kettlebell lifts and freestyle-style programming within StrongFirst parameters Practical programming ideas for minimalist but all‑round strength using very few tools (one kettlebell, one dumbbell, carries, crawling, etc.) The episode blends history, philosophy of strength, and practical programming for serious trainees and coaches. If you've been trying to "visualize your future" but still feel stuck… this monthly meditation is about to flip the whole thing. In this short guided practice, I'll show you a different way to visualize—one that helps your brain stop treating your dream like "someday" and start treating it like already done. Because here's the truth: your identity doesn't change from wishing. It changes from proof… and your brain is wired by memory, not fantasy. What you'll get in this episode: •Why traditional "future visualization" can accidentally reinforce the gap (and keep you stuck) •The identity shift that makes your decisions + actions change (so your life actually changes) •A guided "future-past memory" exercise: you'll jump 3 months forward… then remember back like it already happened •How to choose ONE goal that would change everything (and stop overwhelming your nervous system) •A simple way to "return to the present as her" so you stop defaulting to old patterns Join the Energy Institute Today: https://info.theenergyexam.com/the-energy-institute Subscribe To My Newsletter: https://moira-kucaba.kit.com/ Learn more about MAKE Wellness Peptides: https://meet.makewellness.com/?referral=74249EEEC5 Learn more about becoming an Affiliate: https://themakeexperience.com/74249EEEC5 Follow Me On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/moirakucaba/?hl=en Watch On Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@moirakucaba5802 Free Resources: https://moira-kucaba.kit.com/freebielibrary

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Brian Russell, Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Fresno, discusses the city's long-standing road problems and a major repaving effort this year, including 37 street projects and plans to fix more than 70 miles of roads—possibly over 100. The work is part of a roughly $140 million campaign funded by local taxes, state dollars, and a $100 million bond. But with an estimated $1.2 billion backlog, city leaders admit this is only the beginning. Wall Street suits think they can roll up blue-collar businesses with just a spreadsheet. But without true boots-on-the-ground experience, they usually end up buying a fleet of broken equipment and alienating the entire workforce. In this episode of the Acquisitions & Asphalt series, Sam Silverman brings on Jeff Livingston (CEO/Operating Partner of Nationwide Paving) and Chris Wirthlin (CFO of The Pave) to break down what actually happens when you pair a sharp financial team with a 30-year paving veteran. They break down the "Anti-PE" approach to acquiring service businesses, and pull back the curtain on how to find massive hidden margins that financial due diligence completely misses. They cover:Why traditional private equity fails at service-based roll-ups, and how to actually win the trust of legacy foundersThe psychology of acquisitions: How taking over back-office billing turned an "I'm retiring in 6 months" founder into an "I'll stay 'til I'm 80" partnerDue diligence secrets: Why the crew in the field will tell you the truth about a company long before the owner's financials ever doEquipment reality checks: How to spot "junk" machinery that standard financial appraisals completely missFinding hidden cash: How bringing subcontractor work and traffic control in-house instantly saved $10,000 a dayThe power of geographic density: Building economies of scale by sharing yards, equipment, and corporate infrastructure across regional footprintsDominating corporate contracts: How to win national accounts (like Wells Fargo and CVS) with 24-hour proposals and insane operational speedThe Buffalo CVS case study: The logistics of flying a single operator 1,000 miles to fix a pothole and still maintaining high marginsThis is a weekly series. Turning Chaos into Systems: The 90-Day Growth Framework That Scales Any Business with Kathie Feng Find Rocky Lalvani @ www.ProfitComesFirst.com or email him at rocky@profitcomesfirst.com Make more, work less video: https://youtu.be/ What does it actually take to build a marketing system that drives predictable, sustainable revenue? In this episode of The Profit Answer Man, Rocky Lalvani sits down with Kathie Feng, founder of Signal Growth and fractional CMO with over 13 years of experience leading growth for Fortune 500 brands including Constellation Brands (Corona and Modelo), Pave (an a16z-backed fintech unicorn), Discover, Capital One, and Shiseido. Kathie breaks down the frameworks, strategies, and hard truths that separate businesses that scale from businesses that stall. In This Episode: Why most small business owners jump to paid advertising before answering the most important question about their product and audience What the "winning triangle" of product fit, market fit, and pricing fit really means and how to use it before spending a single dollar on ads How to build a customer feedback loop that validates your assumptions and identifies your true target audience Why Meta and Google campaigns fail for so many entrepreneurs and what the real problem usually is How to structure a test and learn strategy that gives your campaigns the best possible chance of working Why the first two seconds of a Meta ad are the most critical and how creative structure directly impacts algorithm performance How to evaluate a marketing agency before you hire one and what questions to ask to separate a polished pitch from proven results What benchmarks and KPIs you should be holding your agency accountable to from day one The difference between closing high ticket offers of $7,000 and above versus lower ticket offers under $2,000 and why the sales process should look completely different How the consumer decision journey has shifted away from a linear funnel and what that means for how you show up across channels What AI is doing to the content landscape and how founders can use it as a growth tool without losing the authenticity that builds trust What a 90 to 120 day revenue framework actually looks like and what milestones you should expect within that window Key Takeaways: Start with the winning triangle before you advertise. Build a customer feedback loop early. Your Meta and Google campaigns need a structured test and learn approach. The first two seconds of your ad determine everything on Meta. Hold your agency to real benchmarks from day one. Run a pilot before committing to a full scope of work. Match your sales process to your price point. The consumer decision journey is no longer linear. AI is a tool that amplifies capacity, not a replacement for strategy. A 90 to 120 day framework should produce measurable results. About Kathie Feng: Kathie Feng is a founder and Growth Architect who helps businesses turn momentum into market dominance. With more than 13 years of experience leading growth for global brands, Constellation Brands (Corona, Modelo), Pave (a16z-backed fintech unicorn), Discover/Capital One, and Shiseido, she brings enterprise-grade strategy to founder-led companies ready to scale with clarity and intention. Through her company, Signal Growth, Kathie and her team, with combined experience of 5 decades, engineer predictable revenue by installing the same data-driven, AI-powered frameworks used by Fortune 500 and multinational brands. Her work blends systems thinking, consumer psychology, and operational discipline, giving founders access to the rigorous, scalable infrastructure normally reserved for billion-dollar organizations. Her multicultural background—having been to 6 continents, 42 countries, and speaking 5 languages, shapes her ability to decode human behavior, refine messaging across cultures, and unlock deeper emotional resonance in markets crowded with noise. She believes growth isn't luck; it's engineered. And the right system transforms both the business and the founder leading it. Kathie speaks on: • AI-powered growth systems • Modern-day growth funnel architecture • Founder psychology and decision-making • Consumer-centric positioning, messaging & behavioral strategy • Building 90-day revenue engines • Scaling without chaos or burnout Links: Website: https://signalgrowth.webflow.io/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kathiefeng/ Profit Blueprint Calculator I Profit Comes First: https://lp.profitcomesfirst.com/profitblueprintcalc-page Watch the full episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@profitanswerman Sign up to be notified when the next cohort of the Profit First Experience Course is available! Climbing the Big 4 partner track is supposed to be the ultimate career goal. But for those on the inside, it often just feels like pledging a 10-year corporate fraternity. In this episode of the Acquisitions & Asphalt series, Sam Silverman brings on Alex Loebig, Head of Corporate Development for The Pave, to discuss why she walked away from a 12-year career at GE Capital and Deloitte to dive into the gritty world of blue-collar M&A.They break down the psychological shift required to leave the Fortune 100, and pull back the curtain on what Post-Day 1 integration actually looks like when you acquire a 30-year-old Mom-and-Pop business. They cover:Why the corporate partner track is changing, and why the delayed gratification may no longer be worth itThe "MBA Dilemma": Is business school actually worth the time and opportunity cost? How to slowly flex your "risk muscle" without blowing up your personal life or bank accountThe reality of Post-Day 1 integration: Why your shiny new CRM means nothing without employee buy-inHow to build immediate trust with blue-collar founders when you are the "corporate outsider"The low-hanging fruit of M&A: Moving acquired companies from personal piggy banks to GAAP complianceHow taking back-office stress off a founder allowed them to double their paving bidding capacitySpotting red flags during due diligence: Work In Progress (WIP) and the hidden impact of safety protocolsThe "Suits" Illusion: Why buying a business isn't just glamorous negotiations (and why ego kills partnerships)This is a weekly series. Welcome back to the Fintech Takes podcast. I'm Alex Johnson, joined by Rich Franks (a fintech advisor and consultant with 20+ years in credit risk across both the bank and fintech sides), for a new episode of Facing Credit. This one's about credit scoring. And it's about why the market has changed more in the last year than in the prior 30. The FICO monopoly has cracked. Federal regulators opened the mortgage market to competing scores. Cashflow underwriting arrived with roughly 30% predictive lift over traditional bureau data. Block built a proprietary score from Cash App transaction data, and plans to sell it to third-party lenders. Plus, a new generation of cashflow scoring companies (including Prism, Plaid's LendScore, Nova Credit, Pave, and CloutScore) are all competing in the market for a top spot. Rich and I dig into: Why even 80% conversion on the bank account linking step still kills a lending funnel, and what it takes to solve friction Why FICO's cashflow answer had an architectural problem, and why lenders started looking elsewhere The fair lending risks hidden inside merchant-level transaction data What makes Block's Cash App Score innovative, and the game theory question it raises if large depositories start thinking the same way Tune in for Rich's take on where the cashflow scoring market consolidates, what the end of FICO's de facto monopoly means for lenders and consumers, and whether AI resolves or accelerates the fragmentation. Imagine a blueprint so ambitious it aims to remake the entire U.S. government from the ground up. That's Project 2025, launched in April 2023 by the Heritage Foundation as the 2025 Presidential Transition Project. According to its own 900-page manifesto, "Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise," the plan rests on four pillars: restoring the family as America's centerpiece, dismantling the administrative state, defending sovereignty and borders, and securing individual rights to live freely.[12][1]At its core, Project 2025 seeks to consolidate executive power, purge civil service ranks for loyalists, and overhaul agencies. It proposes abolishing the Department of Education and Department of Homeland Security entirely, while shrinking the Environmental Protection Agency and merging economic bureaus like the Census and Labor Statistics into one conservative-aligned entity.[1][2] "Pave the way for an effective conservative administration," the document declares, by firing independent agency leaders and conditioning funding on political fealty.[2]Key reforms target health care and labor. It calls for cutting Medicaid through per-capita caps, work requirements, and privatization into vouchers, alongside pushing Medicare toward private Advantage plans as the default.[1][2] Labor faces blows too: eliminate card-check union elections, repeal Davis-Bacon wage rules, and shrink the National Labor Relations Board.[3] On immigration, mass deportations loom, using military and National Guard for raids, ending asylum protections, and dismantling birthright citizenship.[7]Energy policy pushes fossil fuels hard, urging vast oil, gas, and coal development, Arctic drilling, and slashing climate research funding. "Any research conducted with taxpayer dollars serves the national interest in a concrete way in line with conservative principles," it states.[1]By February 2026, trackers reveal stark progress: the Trump administration has initiated or completed 53 percent of its 532 domestic actions, with 283 implemented across 20 agencies, per the Center for Progressive Reform.[9] Critics like the ACLU warn of eroded civil rights, from censored classroom discussions on race and gender to restricted abortion and contraception access.[7][10] The NAACP Legal Defense Fund notes early executive orders advancing criminalization of immigrants and protests.[8]This scope illustrates Project 2025's ambition: not tweaks, but a total realignment of governance. As midterms approach, battles over Congress could accelerate or stall remaining reforms. Thanks for tuning in, listeners. Arlene Limas is a pioneering martial artist and leader whose career has helped reshape combat sports, self-defense, and personal empowerment. She began training at just five years old in Shaolin kung fu before transitioning to tae kwon do, where she quickly rose to the highest levels of international competition. In 1988, at the Seoul Olympic Games, she made history — becoming the first American and the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal in tae kwon do as the sport made its Olympic debut. Over the course of her competitive career, Arlene earned national titles, Pan-American titles, World University honors, and World Championship golds. She was later inducted into the Tae Kwon Do Hall of Fame and recognized as one of the greatest taekwondo athletes of the 20th century. After retiring from elite competition, she turned her focus toward leadership, mentorship, and advocacy. She opened her own martial arts school, breaking barriers for women in instruction and leadership roles, and continued championing empowerment through training. Today, she serves as the CEO of PAVE Prevention, where she works with organizations to promote personal safety, healthier workplace culture, and empowered performance through evidence-based, trauma-informed programs. In this episode, we talk about Olympic history, breaking barriers, leadership beyond the mat, and how martial arts can be a vehicle for lasting cultural change. A Sunday sermon by Pastor Brett Deal.Tonight, we sit on the water's edge of a new year. With the sun set and moonlight piercing the darkness, we watch the slow ripple on the waves of yesterday and watch for dawn. It may not seem it, but the hours before sunrise are some of the best for fishing. This silent time lit soft by stars is the perfect time to cast wide our net into the new year. I'm not talking about new year's resolutions that only last a day or two. I'm talking about epiphany! Epiphany is the culmination of prolonged effort—like wisemen from the East making their long journey to Bethlehem or a faithful fisherman patiently casting out His net. At the beginning of last year, Jesus enlightened us with his preaching (Matthew 5-7). On a mountainside He spoke light and life, opening our eyes and ears and illuminating our hearts. Now, Jesus will come down from the mountain and walk among us, living His message into our world (Matthew 8.1). As we set out with Jesus the Messiah, would you enter this new year challenged by our fourth century sibling, Chromatius of Aquila, who wrote:“‘The kingdom of heaven is near.' So do you want the kingdom of heaven to also be near for you? Prepare these ways in your heart, in your senses and in your soul. Pave within you the way of purity, the way of faith and the way of holiness. Build roads of justice. Remove every scandal of offense from your heart. For it is written: ‘Remove the stones from the road.' And then, indeed, through the thoughts of your heart and the very movements of your soul, Christ the King will enter along certain paths,” (emphasis added).Beloved, the King and His Kingdom are near, so let us begin this new year intently going through the gates, preparing the way for all people, building up the way of the Lord to dwell among us (Isaiah 62.10). Let us join Jesus in the journey as He casts the net wide.

In this episode of Behind the Prop, hosts Wally Mulhern and Bobby Doss dive into one of the most important and often overlooked stages of a pilot's development — the period right after earning a Private Pilot Certificate, when decision-making truly begins. While training provides structure and supervision, real pilot-in-command judgment is built through solo experience, reflection, and continuous learning.Wally explains that many new pilots complete training with strong technical skills but little real-world decision-making experience. He compares flying to golf — once the fundamentals are learned, consistent, thoughtful application separates good pilots from great ones. Without the safety net of an instructor, new private pilots must learn to evaluate fuel, weather, and personal minimums on their own. Both hosts emphasize that certification is not the finish line but the starting point of lifelong learning. The conversation covers key tools like the PAVE acronym (Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, External pressures), which provides a structured way to assess preflight risk. Wally and Bobby also stress the importance of mental rehearsals and “what if” scenario planning to strengthen decision-making during unexpected events. Through real stories — from leaving chocks in place to handling equipment failures — they illustrate how small mistakes can lead to valuable lessons when managed properly.Technology plays a major role in modern flying, but the hosts caution against overreliance on apps and automation. Errors in systems like ForeFlight can mislead pilots who fail to verify data manually. Proficiency, not just currency, is the foundation of safety. Pilots are urged to set personal minimums, fly regularly with instructors, and stay humble about their skill level, especially after certification. The episode closes with a powerful reminder: good judgment is learned through experience, reflection, and discipline. Wally and Bobby encourage pilots to embrace real-world flying, learn from others' incidents, and view every flight as an opportunity to refine decision-making. Their shared vision promotes a culture of continuous learning and safety, helping pilots evolve from newly certified to truly competent and confident aviators.
