Tropical Storm Kyle is now Storm Ellen and it is impacting Ireland and Great Britain with heavy rains and storm force winds. Storm Ellen is losing it power but has caused mayhem in Westmeath and West Cork and also Tipperary. Henry McKean travelled to Clonmel where 100 Kilometre gusts forced the roof off Larry O'Keefe Furniture and caused the roof to collapse. The main building is untouched and is still open for business. Henry McKean got exclusive access to witness the damage and sent us this report.
The ESB is working to restore power to 130 thousand homes, farms and businesses after Storm Ellen. Cork was one of the worst affected counties with gusts of 143 kilometres an hour recorded at Roches Point last night. An investigation by Cork County Council will be carried into flood relief works in Skibbereen after serious flooding in the town overnight, as well as other parts of west Cork.
