How do you find the right creative partners? How do you build a thriving music community around you? To break it all down, I'm sitting down with Alexander Flood—one of Australia's most forward-thinking and versatile drummers. His sound is a fusion of nu-jazz, deep house, broken beat, DnB, funk, and experimental vibes—completely his own. Back in 2020, just a few years after topping his jazz program, he signed with US label Stretch Music and dropped his debut album, Heartbeat. Two years later, he followed it up with The Space Between—an album that wasn't just about the music but about connection, featuring heavy-hitters like Christian Scott and Vivian Sessoms. And that's exactly what we're diving into today. In this episode, Alexander breaks down what it really takes to collaborate as an artist—how he finds creative partners, builds an artistic community, and brings people together to make meaningful music. We're also talking about the evolution of contemporary jazz and getting an exclusive look at his upcoming album, Artifactual Rhythm. This is a conversation you don't want to miss!Check out the Table of Contents

New Orleans trumpeter, composer, producer, and instrument designer Christian Scott, also known as Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah (in 2011, he de-Westernized his name with these two extensions, names from the Ghanaian, as a nod to suppressed histories), makes Stretch Music. Jazz-trained, he stretches and marries the seemingly disparate sounds of Trap Music (Southern hiphop, mixed with techno, dub, and dutch house), traditional West African percussion and New Orleanian Afro-Native American styles.  Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah is also intent on using music as political protest to confront social issues, key among them are - Slavery in America via the Prison Industrial Complex, Food Insecurity, Xenophobia, Immigration, Climate Change, Sexual Orientation, Gender Equality, Fascism and the return of the Demagogue- to name exactly all of the concerns cited on his Bandcamp page. His 2017 record Ruler Rebel, the first in his Centennial Trilogy of releases, marks the very first jazz recordings and he joins us to play his Stretch Music, in-studio. (From the Archives, 2017.)

Recent Certificate recipient, Heath Pearson, Ph.D. sits down with American Jazz Trumpeter, Christian Scott, to discuss his inspirations, his creative process, and the importance of musically challenging himself. Christian, also known as Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, is an architect of concepts. His signature Stretch Music, a genre-blind form, allows him to create sonic landscapes across multiple forms of sound, language, thought, and culture. At once, Trap, Alt Rock, World Music. Stretch Music is, as its creator, a collision of ideas and identities. Growing up as an heir to a Legendary Afro-New Orleanian Chieftain amidst the complexities of a racially and economically conflicted New Orleans, Adjuah’s work reflects his sensibilities: analytic, expansive and unafraid to confront the social and political realities of our time head-on. With just one question, Eddie Palmieri walks us through the history of 'Salsa', quickly pointing out that this name is a misnomer and revealing the underlying roots. At 5:22 Mr. Palmieri mentions the Palmieri Salsa Jams App: An interactive music player of the Full Circle recording, the Palmieri Salsa Jams App (powered by Stretch Music and Spectrum) is sure to please musicians and audiophiles alike. It gives musicians the ability to completely control their practicing, listening and learning experience by customizing the player to fit their specific needs and goals. The app has the capability to mute, solo, pan and fade any instrument chosen along with tempo control, looping and sheet music for each part. https://www.uprisingmusicnyc.com/news/2018/7/26/palmieri-salsa-jams-app-out-now] Eddie Palmieri Links: Sabiduria Full Circle --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Liste des titres : Rebirth Brass Band ; "Blackbird Special" de l'album The Main Event: Live At The Maple Leaf : https://www.discogs.com/fr/Rebirth-Brass-Band-The-Main-Event-Live-At-The-Maple-Leaf/release/1679817 Duke Ellington And His Orchestra ; "Congo Square" de l'album A Drum Is A Woman : https://www.discogs.com/fr/Duke-Ellington-And-His-Orchestra-A-Drum-Is-A-Woman/master/466893 Terence Blanchard ; "Funeral Dirge" de l'album A Tale Of God's Will (A Requiem For Katrina) : https://www.discogs.com/fr/Terence-Blanchard-A-Tale-Of-Gods-Will-A-Requiem-For-Katrina/release/2443140 The Ellis Marsalis Quintet, de l'album Plays The Music Of Ellis Marsalis : https://www.discogs.com/fr/The-Ellis-Marsalis-Quintet-Plays-The-Music-Of-Ellis-Marsalis/release/11804434 Germaine Bazzle, "You’ve Gone" Jazz Chamber Quintet, "Pretty Girl" de l'album For All We Know : http://chamberjazzquintet.com/for-all-we-know/ Duke Ellington Orchestra, "Harlem Airshaft " : https://www.discogs.com/fr/Duke-Ellington-His-Orchestra-Harlem-Air-Shaft-Five-Oclock-Drag/release/11239477 Duke Ellington And His Orchestra, "U.M.M.G." de l'album Ellington Jazz Party : https://www.discogs.com/fr/Duke-Ellington-And-His-Orchestra-Ellington-Jazz-Party/release/1915666 Dr. John, "My Buddy" de l'album In A Sentimental Mood : https://www.discogs.com/fr/Dr-John-In-A-Sentimental-Mood/master/193821 David Torkanowsky, "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most" de l'album Steppin' Out : https://www.discogs.com/fr/David-Torkanowsky-Steppin-Out/master/1264780 Louis Armstrong And His Orchestra, "Perdido Street Blues" de l'album Perdido Street Blues : https://www.discogs.com/fr/Louis-Armstrong-And-His-Orchestra-Perdido-Street-Blues-219-Blues/release/11461246 Allen Toussaint, "Working In The Coal Mine" de l'album Toussaint : https://www.discogs.com/Allen-Toussaint-Toussaint/release/1574769
