Motorräder im Retro-Look gibt‘s mittlerweile von 125 bis über 1200 Kubik. Aber was ist „Retro“, was ist „Klassik“? Woher kommt der Trend? Und wann kommt endlich das Design der 80er wieder? Eine illustre und hoffentlich ähnlich zeitlose Folge über den anhaltenden Retro-Trend bei Motorrädern. Wie sieht eigentlich der Nachfolger einer R nineT oder einer Bonneville aus? Zumindest die erste Frage hat BMW mittlerweile beantwortet, und doch ist das schöngeistige Thema „Retro“ komplexer, als die Motorräder es auf den ersten Blick vermuten lassen. Denn diese kombinieren alte (oder gefühlt alte) Designelemente wie Rundscheinwerfer, Tropfentank und Blechelemente mit moderner Technik. Viele wie z. B. besagte NineT oder Ducati Scrambler nutzen dabei ältere, meist luftgekühlte Motoren, die praktischerweise gleich jede Menge Firmen-DNA mittransportieren. Aber was ist mit Motorrädern, die schon vor der großen Retro-Welle klassisch waren? Ist Retro-Design nicht auch eine Sackgasse, aus der Honda mit seinen Neo Sports Café-Modellen auszubrechen versucht? Und ist die neue Suzuki Katana vielleicht eine erste Vorbotin eines 80er-Revivals? Im Gespräch mit MOTORRAD-Podcaster Ferdinand Heinrich-Steige versuchen PS-Chefredakteur Johannes Müller und MOTORRAD-Katalog-Macher Gerd Mayer außerdem zu ergründen, was den Trend ausgelöst hat und warum das Thema Retro mit seiner unglaublich vielfältigen Modellpalette mittlerweile womöglich den Zenit überschritten hat.
