JUST THE MUSIC ,SWEET REGGAE MUSIC ,THE ICONIC CLASSIC ROOTS SKA REGGAE This roundup of good reggae songs includes some of the most memorable tunes ever performed by the world's best reggae musicians. Without question, reggae music is universally popular. What began in Jamaica in the 1960s exploded worldwide and today, these famous reggae songs are played over and over in clubs all across the globe. Reggae music takes many forms. Some of the top reggae songs are powerfully political in nature, inspiring listeners to rise up and be liberated. Others speak of universal harmony and love. But all reggae sounds feature a distinctive rhythm. In fact, the term “reggae” comes from “ragged,” reflecting the displaced beats which give it such a unique sound. There is absolutely no music in the world “like reggae.” Even hit reggae songs are unique. When it comes to reggae, one musician stands alone as the most influential in the genre: Bob Marley. You'll find plenty of Marley's soulful melodies on this reggae songs list. It would be impossible not to include several of them. Several Marley's (including Ziggy and Damien) are listed here as well. Other artists represented on this top reggae songs list include Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Toots & the Maytals, and Gregory Isaacs. These are just some of the most popular reggae songs. Which one deserves the top spot? You decide, with your votes.

Caribbean music in the United Kingdom, including reggae, has been popular since the late #1960s, and has evolved into several subgenres and fusions. Many reggae artists began their careers in the UK, and there have been a number of European artists and bands drawing their inspiration directly from Jamaica and the Caribbean community in Europe. I first heard the term Northern Soul in the early 2000s while watching a one-hit wonder show on VH1 that mentioned "Tainted Love" as a song the members of Soft Cell used to dance to as teenagers in discotheques. A few years later, I was watching a documentary on rave culture, and there was Soul again. I was hooked. It turns out that for every Motown hit we all know and love, there were probably 50 copycat bangers that never made it to the radio and ended up coveted by British DJs in the late '70s. Side B is all about sweet, sweet Reggae music. Side A The Temptations & James Jamerson - You're My Everything Ann Sexton - You've Been Gone Too Long Sam Dees - Lonely For You Baby The Cashmeres - Showstopper Earl Jackson - Soul Self Satisfaction Freda Payne - Cherish What Is Dear To You (While It's Near To You) Terry Callier - Ordinary Joe Soul Brothers Inc. - Teardrops Luther Ingram - If It's All The Same To You Babe The Royal Esquires - Ain't Gonna Run The Salvadores - Stick By Me Baby Lou Pride - I'm Com'un Home In The Morn'un Side B Super Beagle - Dust A Soundboy Don Carlos & Gold - Natty Dread Have Him Credential Sister Nancy - I Am a Geddion Ansel And The Meditations - Tricked Linval Thompson - Look How Me Sexy Lord Tanamo & The Skatalites - Keep On Moving Marcia Griffiths - Band Of Gold Bob Andy - Too Experience Delroy Wilson - Mother Nature The Heptones - Love Don't Come Easy Michael Palmer - Pon Your Toe Horace Ferguson - Great Stone More info on Northern Soul: http://blog.gregwilson.co.uk/2013/11/northern-renaissance/ I went by DJ alt.rock for 10 years as a tongue-in-cheek diss at lazy rock & roll radio program directors "discovering" '90s alternative rock in the late aughts. DJ alt.rock was also a nod to early rap names that usually contained either "rock" or "ski"... Never in a million years did I imagine that the prefix "alt-" would be so drastically ruined by a former reality TV clown, but that's exactly what happened in 2016/17... I've done my best to clear that name from as many mixes and artwork as possible, but some sets have so many alt.rock DJ-drops in them that I've opted to just post this notice and keep it moving. From now on, I'm using my first name, because nobody can mess it up (other than myself).
