The crew of the Enterprise D is used to Riker bringing something back from Risa, but this time it's a little more sinister than a run of the mill space STD. It's something even more contagious, a game! Soon it's sweeping the ship, and all the crew members and the families and the puppies are addicted to it, and we mean addicted! So addicted, Bev and Riker knock out Data, so the workaholic robot doesn't spoil their fun. Good thing Wesley Crusher is back, and good thing Ashley Ju . . . Uh, Robin Lefler is here, so they can team up and save the day. Unfortunately for them, the crew ain't having it, and the chase is on. Will Wes and Robin be able to get the crew into rehab? Will the Ktarian named Etana be successful in hijacking the Enterprise? Will some please, please, please stop Riker from going to Risa?  Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

Chariot Ltd (AIM:CHAR, OTC:OIGLF) chief financial officer Julian Maurice-Williams takes Proactive's Stephen Gunnion through two major announcements from the company's renewable division. The first announcement covers the financing closure of Etana Energy, Chariot's electricity trading joint venture in South Africa. The financing totals $175 million, with backing from institutions like Norfund and Standard Bank, Africa's biggest bank. Maurice-Williams explained, “Etana is fully funded, and this strengthens its balance sheet, making it bankable and creditworthy.” The second update is a power purchase agreement for a 75-megawatt solar project in South Africa, with electricity to be traded through Etana. This project, set for construction in Q2, was enabled by the guarantee financing secured by Chariot. Maurice-Williams emphasised that these developments mark “two big steps forward for our renewable division towards first revenues.” Chariot expects further renewable projects to reach financial close soon, expanding both its trading and generation revenue streams. The company also continues advancing its oil and gas projects in Morocco and other African markets, with updates expected in the near future. Chariot Ltd (AIM:CHAR, OTC:OIGLF) Chief Financial Officer Julian Maurice-Williams joined Steve Darling from Proactive to shared insights into a transformative financing agreement for Etana Energy, the South African electricity trading platform 49% owned by Chariot. British International Investment (BII) and GuarantCo have announced a $100 million guarantee facility to support Etana's mission of delivering sustainable, cost-effective power solutions by connecting generation projects to industrial and commercial users via South Africa's national grid. The financing includes $50 million from each guarantor and marks the largest energy wheeling framework transaction in South Africa to date. This innovative deal guarantees customer demand, providing renewable energy developers with the revenue certainty needed to advance new projects. The $100 million guarantee facility is expected to unlock an estimated $500 million in renewable energy investments, enabling the development of approximately 500 MW of wind and solar capacity. Maurice-Williams highlighted the deal's potential to catalyze a significant expansion of sustainable energy infrastructure in South Africa, aligning with Chariot's commitment to advancing the global energy transition. #proactiveinvestors #chariotlimited #aim #char #africa #transitionalenergy #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Bubbling with energy and a good dose of rebellious spirit, Etana is probably one of the few guests we've had on the show that took a real stab at defining Jews from the positive, or at least describing a few time-honored practices all centered around one tent pole, that she felt are at the root of Jewish success. Did we find something tangible the world can actually learn from us and apply at home without becoming a Jew? You be the judge. Sety at Abydos (Part 3). The Osireion is an intriguing monument, one that attracts a huge amount of debate, discussion, and speculation. Its discovery was unexpected, its excavation was an enormous undertaking, and there are many uncertainties about its purpose, history, and overall significance. Still, with an extensive photographic record, some meticulous archaeological work, and a great deal of discussion, we can attempt to understand the Osireion. Who built the Osireion (and how old is it)? Why is it here, behind Sety's great temple? What purpose does it serve? In this episode, we explore these questions, and try to understand the monument overall. NOTE: Due to the complex nature of the Osireion's history (ancient and modern), archaeology, and the difficulty of describing it, I will do a video lecture on YouTube in future. Check this post, or the website, for links when published. Further Information: The Osireion is surprisingly well documented, both in archival photography and modern analysis and discussion. In this episode, I don't discuss the mechanics of ancient stone working. That will come in future. [00:00:26] Now here is Diana. [00:00:33] Hey there everybody. Welcome back to the podcast. [00:00:37] We're on the story of Joseph part two, and we're gonna do a review on Joseph. I do want you to go back to part one if you didn't listen to it, cause you'll miss some of the stuff. If you're not familiar with Joseph, you're definitely going to be lost. Etana Dinka (James Madison) joins the JAH's Shane Doyle (Leeds) to discuss state-society encounters in western Ethiopia. Using the province of Qellem as a window, Dinka details processes of contesting, negotiating, and legitimizing the imperial state over a period spanning from 1908 through 1933. Drawing upon his reading of dynamics in Qellem, Dinka argues that the history of Ethiopian imperialism should be contextualized and studied alongside scholarships on contemporaneous European colonial endeavors in Africa. This groundbreaking approach challenges the metanarratives presented both by the Ethiopian grand tradition and Oromo historiographies. Dinka's open access article '"Eating A Country": The Dynamics of State-Society Encounters in Qellem, Western Ethiopia, 1908–33', appears in Volume 63, Issue 2 of The Journal of African History.

According to the king lists, kingship remained in the city of Kish for 24,000 years after the flood (maybe 250 years in real life?), until it was taken to the city of Uruk during the reigns of Dumuzi the Fisherman and Gilgamesh. The kings of the first dynasty of Uruk were especially important to the Sumerian record keepers, who list epithets for the first five kings of the dynasty. The leading Sumerologist, Samuel Noah Kramer, refers to this early Uruk era as the Sumerian Heroic Age, paralleling the Heroic Age described by the early Greek poet Hesiod. The fifth king of Uruk, Gilgamesh, was especially important, not just in Sumerian mythology, but all the succeeding nations and empires for the next thousand years. But even though the kings of Kish were relatively unimportant compared to the forthcoming dynasty, the title King of Kish remained an important title for hundreds of years and was used even by kings who had no control of the city. It was perhaps during the Kish dynasty that the Akkadians first infiltrated into northern Iraq, having been encouraged by the weakness of Sumerian authority after the Shurrupuk flood. There are 23 kings in the Kish dynasty who ruled after the flood, most of them with Semitic names. Although the preceding dynasty of Kish was no where near as popular as Uruks warrior-kings, the pious 13th king of Kish, Etana, who is said to have flown up to heaven on the wings of an eagle, was of particular interest. Although only partially-missing Babylonian versions of the myth have been found, depictions of Etana riding the eagle are among the most popular Sumerian seals cut, some dating to the 2500s B.C., proving that the story is much older. The fragmented myth is also corroborated by the Sumerian king lists which say that he ascended to heaven and consolidated all the foreign lands. The king lists have him as ruling either 635 or 1,560 years, and he is mentioned as residing in the netherworld in the Epic of Gilgamesh. The Myth of Etana begins by talking of a city planned by the gods, probably Kish, and that they decided to make Etana the architect. Once again, the story begins with creation of the world and speaks of the revolt of the servant-gods, the Igigi, but this time it is the making of the first king, Etana, not of humankind, that restores order between heaven and earth:

What's Inside A Sudden, Second Chance At A Climate Bill Last week, climate activists received a surprise gift from Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer and Joe Manchin. It turns out they had been in secret negotiations to put out a spending package that might tackle some of the same climate mitigation projects as last year's failed Build Back Better initiative. The $369 billion dollars for climate mitigation in the Inflation Reduction Act covers tax credits for renewable energy, methane leak reduction, and the largest environmental justice investment in history. But will it pass before Congress goes on recess? Ira talks to University of California-Santa Barbara political scientist Leah Stokes, who helped advise Senate Democrats during the bill's crafting, about what the bill might do, and some of the politics shaping climate action.   Engineering and Infrastructure In A Collapsing Climate Roads buckling. Power grids flickering. Roads washing out and basements flooding. Climate change brings new hazards for both human health and the infrastructure that keeps our communities functioning. So how do we build for the conditions that are coming–and in many ways already here? Arizona State University engineer Mikhail Chester talks to Ira about the physical alterations we'll need and, perhaps more importantly, the way the process of building must change too. Plus why building things to fail—but with less deadly consequences—may be necessary in an uncertain future.   A Teen Inventor Builds A Fingerprint Scanner for Gender Equity The World Bank estimates that around one billion people worldwide don't have official proof of identity. Without legal identity verification, opening bank accounts, voting, and even buying a cell phone is challenging or even impossible. This issue disproportionately affects women—around half the women in low-income countries do not have proof of identity, which limits their independence and the resources they are able to access. Looking for a solution, 16-year-old Elizabeth Nyamwange invented Etana—an affordable fingerprint scanner that could provide women with a form of digital identity. Her project to close the gender identification gap earned her first place in HP's Girls Save the World challenge. Ira speaks with Nyamwange, based in Byron, Illinois, about her innovation.   Remembering Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek's Pioneering Lieutenant Uhura Actress Nichelle Nichols died this week at the age of 89. She was known to people throughout the galaxy for her role as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, the communications officer on the Starship Enterprise. Her casting as a Black woman in a highly skilled, technical position on a major television program in 1966 was crucial representation—and helped many viewers see science and technology careers as something within their grasp as well. When Nichols considered leaving Star Trek to return to Broadway, a meeting with “her biggest fan”—the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr—helped convince her to stay on to contribute to the civil rights movement. Later, Nichols became an ambassador for NASA, working to help recruit people to the space shuttle program, especially women and minorities. In this remembrance, astronaut Leland Melvin helps tell her story, and Tarika Barrett, CEO of the STEM organization Girls Who Code, talks about the importance of role models and representation. Transcripts for each segment will be available the week after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.

The Hermetic Hour
Lucifer Princeps by Peter Grey (re-broadcast)

On Thursday May 11th, 2017 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will review "Lucifer Princeps" (2015) by Peter Grey.  This book is quite different in style from its predecessor "The Red Goddess" which, although well-researched, explored the background and origins of Aleister Crowley's "Babalon" in a popular style. Lucifer Princeps however is a scholarly work and might even be an academic dissertation or thesis edited for the lay reader. Being an academic work it suffers from the assumption that the reader is familiar with the material that the writer is working from. Fortunately this corpus is mostly Biblical and Apocryphal but he cross references other mythologies. Nevertheless the book is a wonderful resource and a great contribution to the Western Esoteric Tradition. He starts with Isaiah's lament and curse as the beginning of the Lucifer's Fall from Heaven story. This sets the stage for a parade of sources from ancient Sumerian and Canaanite mythology. We learn about the first ascent to Heaven by the Sumerian king Etana, and then the Canaanite god Athar who tries to sit on Baal's throne. We learn that the Yahwehists hated the pagan gods of the heavens and that the War in Heaven was actually Yahweh against El and the Elohim. Lucifer is finally revealed as our old friend Semyaza (Semhaza), the leader of the 200 Fallen Angels from the original Book of Enoch. The author concludes his work by offering us a mini-grimoire of Semhaza and his 20 officers, leaving us the job of obtaining their sigils -- which we will certainly do. So if you want get a head start on this project, tune in and give a listen.
