Steampunk chap-hop rap artist and self confessed nerd, Professor Elemental, is joining us on Sheer Isolation this week. The Professor has been recording and touring his quintessentially British rap tracks for over a decade, performing in venues across Europe and the States. His unique music style and on-brand appearance has given rise to an impressive fanbase on social media. Music aside, he also guest starred in an episode of Disney's Phineas and Ferb. We talk to The Professor about his upcoming tour and new releases, how the character came to be, and somehow also go onto chat about men's mental health and self-motivational tips. We play a track from the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band which was instrumental in the creation of Professor Elemental. Kieran picks a track from Tankus The Henge who are touring the region in the near future. We also mark the sad passing of Rob Talbot, a music promoter who was well known by musicians across South Wiltshire and Somerset.
In which our heroes talk s*** about Ben Folds.....again!I'm joined this week by new, regular cohost Leon to talk about how I think Ben Folds is the greatest songwriter of my lifetime, or failing that at least in the top one. We send birthday wishes to Jeff Ament, Steve Harris and Gaz Coombes and share memories of Supergrass. We pay tribute to 3 "Great" records celebrating anniversaries this week in U2's The Joshua Tree, Let Me Come Over from the wonderful Buffalo Tom and the sledgehammer of the debut album from Bodycount. After that we get into some of our recent listens including Scandinavian rockers Volbeat and Leon tells us about nearly joining a cult while watching Ghost at Knebworth (we'll have a review on the new album in a couple of weeks) I took a time out from listening to Mark Lanegan last week and cheered myself up with the first album from under the radar, high energy carnival steampunks, Tankus the Henge.I close the show by trying to sell Leon on my favourite artist, Ben Folds. After Sam dismissed the first album from Ben Folds Five with "I just don't want it anywhere near me" (A quote for the poster!) I hope to have more luck with my best friend of 30 years. Warning his tenure as co-host of this podcast could be short-lived!! As always, thanks for listening. The blooming delightful Faye Treacy joins me to talk about living Florida, being a trombone playing rock star and what it's like to be raised by a punk loving father. More about Faye: Faye Treacy is a comedian, trombonist, presenter, writer and educator. Born in Croydon, S.London, in rebellion against a punk Dad, Faye decided to pick up trombone and then ended up being luckily enough to be accepted into the Royal Academy of Music (she did a lot of practice.) . Upon graduation Faye has had a busy freelance career. Her musical career highlights include having been the resident trombonist for the Chris Moyle’s Quiz Night on Channel 4, as well as playing for The Selector, Kiko Bun, The Maccabees, Rod Stewart, Tankus The Henge, PRO Glenn Millar Big Band, Hackney Colliery Brass Band, Riot Jazz and The London Vegetable Orchestra.

When we started our conversation with Silke Brittain by talking about her thrill-seeking nature and her background in gymnastics, we couldn't have predicted the deep conversation about influence mapping inside organizations. Silke is the managing director at Clearvoice.agency based in the UK and works with corporations to help them map communication pathways to determine ways to change the cultures of organizations. She shared research that 3% of the people in an organization account for as much as 85% of the organization's change, all through informal influence. Her rigorous approach to analyzing situations, developing solutions based on informal communication, and creating influence maps inspired us to want to return to Clearvoice.agency's projects in the future. Silke revealed that her theme song would be "We Are The Champions" by Queen, a UK band known for its subtle and informal influence on the world! Tim noted in the Grooving Session that one of his favorite UK bands is Tankus The Henge, led by frontman and sideshow barker Jaz Delorean, and Kurt jumped in by noting the carnival-style antics of Johnny on Wash Day, from Kurt's days at Somerfest, in Wisconsin. Ah, life is good with music. Listen. Enjoy. Share. Repeat.
This week Jay and Tony are joined by Tankus The Henge front man Jaz Delorean. The boys go deep and explore the mind of this brilliant song writer. Tankus The Henge are currently on tour around the UK - catch them at www.TankusTheHenge.com to see where they are playing near you, listen to their latest music and much more. Check out some of Jaz's other mad ideas at http://www.jazdelorean.com/
So here it is... our special, annual Song Of The Year Show... in which Garry and guests review the very best tracks submitted to us in the past year and - without fear or favour - pick the most excellent example of indie music in the history of the universe. Or something like that. Garry special guest panel comprises rock writer and musician Johnny Wah-Wah and London Mod icon Shona “Wattsie” Watts. And Mik Whitnall drops by to deliver a live set while the judges are out in the jury room. Altogether, a show of superlatives! All we can hope is that 2015 produces songs of equal excellence. Plus there are great numbers from The Droogettes, Tankus The Henge, Daveit Ferris, the City Saints, Ross Harper, Model Society, the Brassknuckle Boys and much more. For full track listing, see the show notes. Remember – we’re keen to discover, play and support new bands and new talent – send us a music submission via the link on the website! She's the love child of Marilyn Monroe and Ziggy Stardust, and Kiria Le Pink is simply one of the most exciting artists on the UK's newly-revitalized rockabilly scene. Working with Camden's legendary producer Phil 'Doyley' Doyle the North London singer-songwriter is intent on making one of the earliest forms of rock'n'roll vital and sexy again. Kiria and two of her Missy Le Pink crew join Garry in the studio for a lively Xmas/New Year show. And as usual the playlist mixes and mashes new songs from old veterans like The Boys with the fresh sounds of Manchester's next big thing The Backhanders. Plus there are great numbers from The Droogettes, Tankus The Henge, Daveit Ferris, the City Saints, Ross Harper, Model Society, the Brassknuckle Boys and much more. As usual, the show also includes new music from the hottest new bands around - for full track listing, see the show notes.
