On this week's Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are chatting through the 2026 Grammy nominations, starting with the Big Four categories (album, record and song of the year, plus best new artist), and continuing with our pop-focused musings down the list. Question No. 1: Why is "Golden" -- the breakout hit from Netflix's musical juggernaut KPop Demon Hunters -- nominated in the song of the year category but not record of the year? With its sky-high vocals courtesy of the real-life women behind the animated K-pop groiup HUNTR/X (EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI) and its electric, inescapable electronic production, it feels tailor-made for the category honoring the recording of a song. You've probably heard his name. If not, you've definitely heard his words. Josh Phillips is the songwriter behind “Dirt Cheap”—the track Cody Johnson took to No. 1, and the one that just won ACM Song of the Year. But Josh isn't chasing the spotlight. He's a North Carolina boy who writes songs that come from a real place, and that truth shows up in every line. In this episode, Josh sits down with Chad for a raw conversation about the highs, the heartbreak, and the hard decisions that come with a life in music. He's toured with some of the biggest names in the game, played the biggest stages, and still walked away, realizing that life on the road wasn't worth missing time with his family back home. This one is about the late nights and long drives that shape a songwriter, and the kind of moments that never make it into a press release. If you love country music, that actually means something; this one's for you. This episode is brought to you by DEMERBOX, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, Caesars Palace and Entertainment, The Nashville Palace, Corning Ford, Mickey Thompson Tires, BedSlide, Napa Valley Olive Oil, Oakley Sunglasses, and ZLINE.

With 20 albums under his own name and his instrumental group Cosmo, the man knows how to make a record. He is a wildly accomplished and successful songwriter. For example in 2003 Harris he received the Grammy Award for Song Of The Year for Norah Jones' breakout hit “Don't Know Why,” from her debut album, Come Away With Me, which has sold almost 30 million copies worldwide. Versions of his songs have been sung by artists as diverse as Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Cat Power, Feist, The Black Keys, M. Ward, Brad Mehldau, Bright Eyes, Smokey Robinson, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Kandace Springs, and Solomon Burke. I mean WHAT a list that is! Songwriting collaborations have included Maya Hawke, John Zorn, Madeleine Peyroux, Melody Gardot, Papooz, and Lana Del Rey. If you didnt think you knew Jesse, I bet you've heard his writing out there in the known universe of sound and by gosh he's a real potent force. Even after all this success, he is very mild mannered and thoughtful in this nice rambling interview. He's generous with his knowledge and a very easy guy to get along with. I must say I hang my pod head slightly when reflecting on how old this interview is. Like a fine wine, I hope it's benefited from a little time in the digital cellar. Drink in the wisdoms y'all !
