Adrian Tobey of Groundhogg talks about coming up with his business idea, building his MVP, and how he propelled his SaaS from poor performance to 30,000 MRR Adrian Tobey is the CEO and sole founder of Groundhogg, a market automation and customer relationship management WordPress Plugin that offers users a comprehensive integration in their WP environment. He talks to Geordie about his journey. What You'll Learn How Adrian discovered CRM How did Adrian's first product operate? Why developers should focus on building their own products The shoemaker's son's syndrome Lessons Adrian learned while working in the agency How Adrian funded his MVP How Adrian and his team launched Groundhogg Advantages of partnering with other professionals Why cheaper solutions hardly solve significant problems What strategy did Adrian use to attain his big break? In this Episode Groundhogg software is specially designed to cater to WordPress and digital marketing agencies. Adrian says he gained experience working as a WordPress developer. His primary focus was building WordPress websites for his clients, complete with layout design and page builders. He would also integrate the websites with effective marketing automation and CRM products such as Hubspot, Active Campaign, and Infusionsoft. Having worked with numerous small businesses, Adrian understands how much small companies struggle with implementing practical strategies with marketing automation software. Groundhogg does not handle small businesses. Find out why from the podcast. Groundhogg's core business focuses on areas where they are likely to make the most profit margins, that is, WordPress and digital marketing agencies. Apart from requiring minimal support, Adrian says already established agencies are high spenders and always renew their licenses whether their clients thrive or not. Agencies are both persistent and consistent, making them easier to work with. According to Adrian, his business found him, and he gives a detailed explanation why. Listen to the podcast for this exciting story. Many businesses struggle with attracting the right audience to their websites and converting them into paying customers. At some point, Adrian and his dad were working to identify the right strategy to initiate and maintain a conversation between visitors and the business until they finally become paying customers. Adrian explains the most common method that many firms used in the past (some still do) to start conversations which you can find out about from the podcast. He also explains the method he and his dad used to start conversations with potential clients. At 18 years old, Adrian was already a certified partner of Infusionsoft. During that period, he worked with numerous small businesses and companies. Apart from building thousands of campaigns, Adrian attended the funnel hacking conference to horn his skills. He would then develop his first product while still in University. Adrian learned to code from YouTube and later quit the university. Working on your own product is crucial for creating wealth and establishing yourself in the industry. According to Adrian, working for agencies is similar to the shoemaker's son's syndrome. Listen to the podcast to learn what the syndrome is all about. What is Adrian doing to improve his product? He says a combination of building features and listening to customer demands works for him. Working with the agency exposed Adrian to numerous lessons, which he uses to build his business. He narrates some of these lessons in the podcast. At some point, Adrian realized that he was getting a raw deal from working for the agency and decided to quit. He gives details of this realization in this podcast. While he is no longer involved with the agency, he agrees that he can identify with most agencies' problems. Quitting employment can be an easy process, but surviving after that and running a personal business can be difficult. Adrian borrowed some money from his grandfather, which he intended to depend on until his business stabilized. Being at the right place at the right time is crucial for an entrepreneur. Adrian says he spent lots of time in areas where small businesses and agencies were, like Facebook groups. Here, he noticed the frustrations many companies were facing. Listen to the podcast to find out what these were. Adrian knew he could offer solutions for all those problems without fail. When Adrian and his team launched Groundhogg, they faced numerous challenges. He explains the strategy he used to attract regular customers. This is a long and detailed process filled with multiple failures that you cannot afford to miss. He would later devise the right strategy to develop an audience and create a constant flow of customers, which he would later convert into revenue. Listen to the podcast and learn about it. At some point, Adrian attended an event where he discussed his cash flow and revenue problems. Listen to the podcast to find out the solutions he got from the professionals in attendance. He also explains how he leveraged those lessons to get his big break. Adrian concludes the podcast by encouraging listeners to reach him with any questions they may have. He says he's very reachable and ready to assist where possible. Resources Ygroundhogg.io Adrian Tobey LinkedIn Adrian Tobey Twitter
On today’s podcast, Episode 129, Adrian and Ariel cover some of the best restaurants and eateries available to the citizens of Milton. When Adrian and Ariel first started living and working in Milton over a decade ago, it was not the town we all know and love today. With very little amenities, people often found themselves driving to Oakville or other neighbouring towns to go to the movies or enjoy a nice meal at a restaurant. With a projected growth expected to take Milton over the size of both Burlington and Oakville combined, Milton has not only undergone a dramatic make over from the “nowheresville” is was just a short time ago, but it has its eyes set on much more. With a bustling downtown filled with local shops and restaurants, Milton has developed into a one stop shop for all of its residents and the surrounding area. It is for that reason that we wanted to spend this episode highlighting some of our favourite local restaurants and businesses. Whether you’re into burgers, Italian, sushi, or curry, Milton’s got you covered! So with that being said, why not support local tonight by placing an order at one of our favourite spots? How Milton has changed over the past decade, must try restaurants for anyone who is new to Milton, and does Ariel really make the best penne alla vodka? "climbing", because of the climbing habit of the species. Flowering:spring, summer but spot flowers throughout the yearDescription: a scrambling climber or vine anywhere between 2 to 4 metres. Glossy mid green leaves with buttercup yellow flowers with prominent golden stamens. Hibbertia scandens What else?Let’s find out…That was Adrian O’Malley, qualified horticulturist and native plant expert.Hibbertias are sometimes called Guinea Flowers because the flower shape and colour looks like the ancient Golden Guinea coin. When Adrian has seen it in the bush, it's mostly in open forest or gullies. Part 2 of the interview with Adrian explores the ins and outs of her songwriting. Adrian discovered the ballad music of Bob Dylan at the age of 8 and released her first album when she was 14. When Adrian was 14, her life changed forever with the chance to record an album. An open mic, two newly written songs and a little girl who had been playing a pawn-shop guitar for two weeks suddenly realized her life’s purpose. With the help of an incredible couple (Mike and Liz Vanderhoof) from Utah who saw the clear potential, Adrian picked up the guitar and welded pen and paper-like weapons, moving head-on into the career she knows she was meant to pursue to this day. “I realized that I had things to say, a [cowboy] culture I longed to protect, and a spirit that had to wander. It was stumbling into perfection, into the meaning and into something I’ve never regretted for a minute. It was like coming home.”#desertdwellingmama, @buckaroogirlofficial, www.buckaroogirl.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

For the next few episodes, the Choir Ninja podcast will focus on Voices From Houston, lifting up the directors in south Texas as they recover from Hurricane Harvey. This first episode in the series feature a replay of an interview that originally aired back in 2015. This interview is exactly what you need to start the new school year! A truly wonderful sit-down interview with Texas native and Houston-area high school choral director, Adrian O. Rodriguez. Listen in on how you can start your year off right by building an empowered music program through creating trust and staying relevant! Listen: Highlight to Tweet: “I realized that being with those friends in choir, that community, that’s where I wanted to be.” - Adrian Rodriguez Show Notes: The moment you knew you’d dedicate your life to music When Adrian was a sophomore in high school, he felt pressured to follow his parents and go into a “more academic” career like a lawyer or doctor. Self-doubt set in, and he contemplated leaving chorus. Then his father encouraged him to try out for TMEA All State Choir. He was accepted. During the festival, Adrian was approached by clinician Betsy Cook Weber, who gave him her business card and encouraged him to apply to the University of Houston. He eventually attended the University of Houston, and owes his success to the support of his father and his mentor Dr. Weber. Later in high school, he took over rehearsal for the chamber choir in his director’s absence. He found out there how much he loved making music with his peers. Worst musical moment When Adrian was in college, he lost himself. Because of “impostor syndrome” he was doing musical things to impress others, because he didn’t consider himself as talented as those around him. He was pursuing performance, even though he was in Music Ed. He came to the realization that he didn’t like being in a practice room by himself and loved being with others. The proudest musical moment As an upperclassman in college, Adrian got the chance to direct a chamber ensemble of his peers. Your “Forte” Adrian recently gave a talk at TMEA entitled “From Passion to Action: Building Empowered Music Programs.” He speaks about his open and vulnerable relationship with his students. He addresses four things on the first day of school with EACH class: What THEY want to learn, what TEXAS expects, what the PRINCIPAL expects, and what HE believes they should learn. Adrian gets it all out on day 1 and creates an unbelievable trust relationship with his kids. Most excited about right now Adrian is excited for his second year (he says his first “real” year) at his high school in Austin. Advice for your younger self Commit to be relevant to your students and create an education that is meaningful to them. Bio: Adrian O. Rodriguez currently serves as the Director of Choirs at Stephen F. Austin High School (Sugar Land, TX). In addition to conducting five choirs, he is the music director of the musical theatre program and teaches Advanced Placement Music Theory and Honors Music History. Rodriguez received his Bachelors of Music in Music Education from the University of Houston (2011) and, after finishing his thesis, will have earned his Masters of Music Education from the Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ). As an active choral clinician and consultant in Southeast Texas, Rodriguez has worked with a variety of school, church, and community choirs and has been invited to present the Texas Music Educators Association (2015) and the Texas Choral Directors Association (2014). His academic interests include: empowering pedagogical practices, community and culture in school music programs, and building choral sound. Rodriguez is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Educators, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. When Adrian’s wife thought it would be a good idea to learn how to Paraglide, she probably didn’t foresee that in a relatively short amount of time, her husband would be summiting and flying solo off volcanoes near their home in Mexico City. Obviously, Adrian took to the sport quickly and it gave him a completely different view of his other favorite hobby, climbing. But with their recent family addition of a little girl and limited time off work, Adrian needed a way to summit mountains over 18,000 feet and return home in the same day. This led him to sleeping in a hypoxic chamber to decrease the amount of time needed to acclimate to high elevation. Talk about dedication to adventure. What’s your excuse? Adrian will also be supporting Marko Hrgetic in the Red Bull X-Alps this June. www.instagram.com/ponchoelpiloto @ponchoelpiloto http://youtube.com/ponchoelpiloto Save 20% off the best freeze-dried meals you’ll ever eat with Peak Refuel.
