Achieving any FKT (fastest known time) is an impressive feat on its own. But what about completing over 100 of them over the span of a career? Not only is that feat impressive, but it also requires an extraordinary amount of mental toughness to make that happen. Today's guest certainly has that level of mental strength, as he's completed over 100 FKTs in his lifetime, including the Norman's 13, Grand Canyon R2R2R-alt, Mt. Rainier and tons of other legendary trails. And our guest today is the amazing Jason Hardrath! Jason Hardrath is an endurance athlete who specializes in mountain climbing, FKTs, and long distance hiking. Years ago, he was in a tragic car crash that nearly ended his athletic career. But through his determination and desire to keep going, he found a way to rebuild his mind, body, and spirit to set out on taking on as many FKTs as possible. In this episode, Jason breaks down how he was able to overcome massive setbacks (like his car crash) in his life to continue to do what he loves, his strategy for taking on FKTs and endurance challenges, and the biggest lessons he's learned from his FKT attempts to help you be a better endurance athlete. Huge thank you to Jason for making this happen! Revisited episode 268. Dan Keeley is on a mission to raise awareness for depression and bipolar disorder by running 1,250 miles self-supported from Rome to London. It's called Rome to Home. In the summer of 2012 he experienced a full-blown manic episode – an episode which culminated with him believing he was ‘the chosen one’ and preaching from the central lane of a major motorway in Italy at rush hour. What followed was a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, time spent in psychiatric wards both in Italy and the UK, and the inevitable crippling depression which found him wanting to take my his own life. It has been 5 years now and Dan is doing awesome! He has a new lease on life and is using it to its fullest. Adventure (ad·ven·ture): an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.   That basically sums up life itself. The most unexpected, seemingly unfair, and hazardous things happen to us at every turn. We want adventure, but don't always love when it shows up. A life-altering injury is, by the definition above, an adventure. Well, it's not always exciting, but you get the picture.    To go from a collapsed spine at the age of 19 to being on a sponsored climbing expedition to the Ivory Coast is not an overnight journey, nor is it pleasant, but it is adventure. Astrid's story is one of hope, patience and sheer grit to rise from what many would call a crippling situation (literally) to seeing the beauty in what happens to all of us at some point and accepting it as what life is all about.    Adventure doesn't always lead us down a peaceful path but teaches us to find peace no matter what path we're on.    Instagram: @astridsoutham   Project Côte d'Ivoire https://www.projectci.co.uk/   Instagram: @projectci_uk      Save 20% off the best freeze-dried meals you’ll ever eat with Peak Refuel. Not everyone chooses to live a life outside the box. Sometimes, it chooses you. Five years ago, Schulting-Kranz was living her life very much within the box. She hosted parties, watched her kids play sports, paddle boarded on the gorgeous coast of California near her home when one day her husband of 17 years admits he's been unfaithful to her for the last 14 years, with a man.   Her life deteriorated in front of her eyes as she realized everything had to change. Not only was the news devastating, but it also rehashed old memories of being raped at 17 years old, which led to her first son. Sara didn't wallow in her sorrow but took the opportunity to pursue her dream to live a life connected to the outdoors and to show the healing power of nature to as many people as she possibly could.   Thus, Live Boldly Coaching was born and her story of pain has become one of strength and compassion with all sorts of adventures, like earning a Guinness World Record for leading her friend Shawn Cheshire to record the fastest rim-to-rim-to-rim run across the Grand Canyon by a blind person.  No matter where she goes, she can now be found on mountaintops all around the country wearing a glamorous pair of bright red high heel shoes. After realizing he doesn’t love talking about the gear and “stuff” of expeditions and adventures, he was curious as to why adventure called him so strongly to do these trips. Was it the thrill, the experience, or something else? He eventually realized he loved the act of “finding his way” through Nature using unconventional means, Nature itself. Thus began a lifelong passion for learning how Nature tells us where we are and how to get where we’re going. In his books, you’ll learn how to “read” Nature to find your way.  Things like locating north using puddles, finding your proximity to civilization using plants and using the behavior of animals to forecast the weather. “There’s no way Bigfoot could be real......at least that’s what I thought.” Laura Krantz is a self-described skeptic. However, several years ago she read an article about Grover Krantz, an anthropology profession and Bigfoot researcher. She thought it odd they shared last names. After more digging, she was surprised to discover that Grover was a cousin to her grandfather. She had to learn more about this mysterious world of folks who believe in the creature but aren’t “crazy”.  What she found was fascinating. These aren’t tin hat wearing antisocial hermits in the forest. They are professors, teachers, forest rangers, and police officers that all had undeniably strange encounters with a creature which they never thought they’d believe in. Laura, a former NPR producer, documented her journey which she turned into Wild Thing, a podcast about the lore and reality of who or what Bigfoot really is and her quest to know more about the folks who search for it. Daniel has struggled with depression for years, even getting to the point he didn’t want to live anymore. After his most recent suicide attempt, he knew things needed to change, quickly. Little did they know, he'd soon fall in love with the freedom of riding and set out on a bicycle adventure to every contiguous US state to raise awareness for suicide prevention and to connect veterans, like himself, with each other and a greater sense of community. After 8 months on the road, Daniel has some incredible stories to tell as well as a new outlook on just how friendly complete strangers can be. I hope you enjoy our conversation and consider helping Daniel continue his journey. He’s probably going through your town! Keep it up, Daniel! They went from around 8,000 listings a few years ago to nearly 40,000 today through their online platform.  I hope you enjoy our conversation about what Ruben's experience has been thus far with growing a company that connects thousands of people with the outdoors.  https://glampinghub.com/ https://www.instagram.com/glampinghub/?hl=en Save 20% off the best freeze-dried meals you’ll ever eat with Peak Refuel (@peakrefuel). This started a series of adventures that led her to compete in the world half Ironman, running (and winning second place female) the Marathon De Sables, and many other adventures. And she is not slowing down. She is back on to fill us in on the Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc – a 171 km race around Mont Blanc.
