Teresa Sanchez Cepeda Davila y Ahumada was born in the Castilian city of Avila during the year 1515, the third child in a family descended from Jewish merchants who had converted to Christianity during the reign of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. Her father Alphonsus had become an ardent Catholic, with a collection of spiritual books of the type his daughter would later compose herself. As a child, Teresa felt captivated by the thought of eternity and the vision of God granted to the saints in heaven. She and her younger brother Rodrigo once attempted to run away from home for the sake of dying as martyrs in a Muslim country, though they soon ran into a relative who sent them back to their mother Beatrice. When Teresa was 14, her mother died, causing the girl a profound grief that prompted her to embrace a deeper devotion to the Virgin Mary as her spiritual mother. Along with this good resolution, however, she also developed immoderate interests in reading popular fiction (consisting, at that time, mostly of medieval tales of knighthood) and caring for her own appearance. Though Teresa's spiritual directors in later life would judge these faults to be relatively minor, they still represented a noticeable loss of her childhood zeal for God. Alphonsus decided his teenage daughter needed a change of environment, and sent her to be educated in a convent of Augustinian nuns. Teresa found their life dull at first, but soon came to some understanding of its spiritual advantages. Illness forced her to leave the convent during her second year. But the influence of her devout uncle Peter, along with her reading of the letters of the monk and Church Father St. Jerome, convinced Teresa that the surest road to salvation lay in forsaking marriage, property, and worldly pleasures completely. Against the will of her father, who wanted her to postpone the decision, she joined the Carmelite Order.Teresa became a professed member of the order at age 20, but soon developed a serious illness that forced her to return home. She experienced severe pain and physical paralysis for two years, and was expected to die when she went into a coma for four days. But she insisted on returning to the Carmelite monastery as soon as she was able, even though she remained in a painful and debilitated state. For the next three years the young nun made remarkable progress in her spiritual life, developing the practice of recalling herself into the presence of God through quiet contemplation. As her health returned, however, Teresa lapsed into a more routine prayer life. While she remained an obedient Carmelite, she would not re-establish this close personal connection to God for almost twenty years. When she was nearly 40, however, Teresa found herself dramatically called back to the practice of contemplative mental prayer. She experienced profound changes within her own soul, and remarkable visions that seemed to come from God. Under the direction of her confessors, Teresa wrote about some of these experiences in an autobiography that she completed in 1565. Teresa had always been accustomed to contemplate Christ's presence within her after receiving him in the sacrament of Holy Communion. Now, however, she understood that the presence she received did not simply fade: God was, in fact, with her always, and had been all along. It was simply a matter of putting herself in his presence, with love and attention as one could do at any moment. This revolution in her spiritual life enabled Teresa to play a significant role in the renewal of the Church that followed the Council of Trent. She proposed a return of the Carmelites to their original rule of life, a simple and austere form of monasticism founded on silence and solitude that had received papal approval in the 12th century and was believed to date back to the Old Testament prophet Elijah. Together with her close collaborator, the priest and writer later canonized as Saint John of the Cross, she founded what is known today as the Order of Discalced Carmelites discalced, meaning barefoot, symbolizing the simplicity to which they chose to return the order after a period of corruption. The reform met with fierce opposition, but resulted in the founding of 30 monasteries during her life.Teresa's health failed her for the last time while she was traveling through Salamanca in 1582. She accepted her dramatic final illness as God's chosen means of calling her into his presence forever. O my Lord, and my spouse, the desired hour is now come, she stated. The hour is at last come, wherein I shall pass out of this exile, and my soul shall enjoy in thy company what it hath so earnestly longed for. St. Teresa of Avila died on Oct. 15, 1582. She was canonized on March 22, 1622, along with three of her greatest contemporaries: St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Francis Xavier, and St. Philip Neri. In 1970, Pope St. Paul VI proclaimed St. Teresa as one of the first two woman Doctors of the Church, along with 14th century Dominican St. Catherine of Siena. This week started with content batching. Batching is an optimizer's tool for ultra productivity. Every month, I create blogs, podcasts, and videos for Carfagno Cleaning and Solo Cleaning School. It takes a ton of time to do each week. I used batching in my cleaning business and in other areas of business over the years. When Teresa's mom was available to watch the kids overnight, we jumped on the opportunity and grabbed a hotel for the night. I got so much done as I batched blog after blog after blog. We also enjoyed time together, so it was a win-win. The following day, I rented an office from my MCBA friend Vernessa Hopkins. Vernessa owns H3 Business Services in Harleysville, PA. The office was perfect and I was able to record all of my podcasts for the upcoming month. My batching goal was to invest a few days and dollars to complete all of my content for a month. I accomplished that! Please keep this in mind. The portion of my batching that related to my solo cleaning business was a small part, so it may not be necessary for you to batch your content. However, you may start sending out newsletters a few times per month, maintain your website, and repurpose content to Facebook and Google My Business. Batching would be a great idea for you at that point.I've been tracking each of my offices from Saturday to Saturday, so I know how long they are taking. Plus, I've made changes to get faster. Over the weekend, I had a difficult email to send. One of these office cleaning clients took me longer because of paint speckles and glitter on the floor as well as increased kitchen areas. I knew I'd have to say something or scope creep would get me! [Before continuing, check out the bonus video, "How do I Deal with Scope Creep" on the Solo Cleaning School YouTube Channel. You'll learn how easy it is for your clients to unintentionally take advantage of you.]When the scope of work increases over time, it causes our cleaning times to increase. The great majority of cleaning companies will NOT raise the price as the scope changes so slowly they don't notice it. Not me! I recognized the potential Scope Creep setting in and knew I would have to send a difficult email. I used the sandwich technique with praise and gratitude in the open and close of the email. In the center, I laid out the areas where the scope has increased. Then I shared how this affects my company. "I clean five offices every Saturday right now. I'm in the process of adding more as well. So when one office starts taking me longer, it ends up costing me money. I'm sure you understand!" Then, I offered possible solutions which either forced them to take ownership and have the staff do more end-of-day cleaning or I would submit a new proposal with higher prices for the increased scope. I was nervous about the outcome as it was surely possible to lose the client, but I had to do this. It's my business and I must run it like one! Fortunately, they responded with consideration and we worked through the solutions together. Ultimately, they decided to take ownership for one portion. The other part, where they've added more kitchen appliances, we decided to alternate half-and-half each week. They gave a little and I didn't raise my prices. It also raised my image of trust and professionalism.Read the rest of this article at the Solo Cleaning School website

Once upon a time, there was an unsuspecting sweetheart of a wife and mom living in a far away land called New Jersey. This beautiful, Italian woman, who was beloved by all, was asked to star in a reality television show. This wonderful woman was named Teresa, and she just wasn’t sure that her shy, timid demeanor was right for the show, but she decided, on a lark, to give it a shot. When the cameras invaded her world, lovely Teresa was SHOCKED to see that the woman they filmed, was not her. Somehow, she was portrayed as a hot-tempered, mean girl. Everyone who knows her knows that the cameras had it wrong. One day, this crazy institution called government, accused Teresa and her loving, handsome – dare we say, juicy – husband of FRAUD. This came as a complete shock to Teresa, as she had never done anything bad in her life! This unjust institution somehow found Teresa and her doting husband GUILTY and sent Teresa off to a dusty, dirty, sad place called prison. In this heinous place, Teresa experienced a lot of untoward behavior from her fellow inmates. From LESBIANS to drug addicts, she could not believe her terrible luck.Teresa navigated these turbulent times by befriending other white-collar criminals and discovering the works of patron saint, Joel Osteen. She spent her nights dreaming of her four beautiful angel-daughters and her handsome husband, and her days becoming a better woman through exercise and eating right. When Teresa was finally released from this dark place, she left as a better wife and mother, even though she did absolutely nothing wrong and didn’t even deserve to be there in the first place. The End.

Teresa Ann is the founder of Let's talk Teresa Ann show on Youtube, is a podcaster, and a dear friend of Carrie's. Today she was invited on the show to talk about something the Lord has asked her to do that is unconventional within the social media realm. If you’re a long time listener of the show you may be familiar with Teresa already! Stay tuned for one amazing interview where you will be encouraged and challenged on what’s about to be shared. Introduction to Teresa Ann (2:00) On top of being the host of Let’s Talk with Teresa Ann, Teresa also has a podcast with her daughter, Tristin. This podcast called “Oh...Teresa and Tristan podcast” is about encouraging listeners to shift their perspective to see with life giving eyes verses lack. To check this podcast out please click here. Goodbye Social Media (3:00) Teresa Ann felt a call from God to get off social media even though that is a huge part of her platform of influence. Act of Obedience (5:00) Teresa shares that through a series of wrestling back and forth, she realized she needed the Lord’s confirmation because it seemed to be very odd God would ask her to walk away from social media when at the time it was such a big part of her life! Though it felt odd at first, Teresa wanted to be obedient above all else and was expectant that God would show her something important from all of this. Different Callings (7:00) We all have different callings in this life and while God may call some people out of social media, that does not go for everyone. Some people are asked to stay and be a light in the midst of the social media realm. What’s important is that we listen to the Lord’s beckoning, then obey! A Heart Transformed (8:30) Teresa realized walking away from social media was not merely about social media, it was about Him wanting to expose her heart and how she was using social media to exploit something that was meant to be filled by God and God alone. Since Teresa has removed herself from social media, her eyes have been opened to see how much she had longed for the approval of man. No Desire (11:00) No longer does Teresa have a desire to be on social media in this season and time. It’s a Process (14:00) It’s a continual moment by moment process God wants to get those impurities out of us, in all areas of life! For a long time Teresa was allowing social media to be a security blanket and that is something she believes the Lord wanted to take away. It is the Lord’s kindness that leads us to transformation. God desires to take stuff out of us that doesn’t produce real, true, authentic, and pure fruit. Known and Loved (16:00) Teresa shares her process in discovering that the Lord may ask us to walk away from certain things not because he wants to punish us but because he wants freedom and liberation in our lives! God desires for us to be known in Him and find our worth and value in Him only. It’s a really beautiful thing when we can discover that for ourselves. Conviction is an Invitation (17:45) Conviction is an invitation to simply draw near to the one who loves us most! God is not condemning people when conviction comes, rather He is drawing us near to His heart. What an honor! The Journey of Leaving Social Media (19:45) Carrie poses a question asking how the process has been for Teresa removing herself from social media. Good Intentions (23:00) We can overindulge in the things of God and not God himself. When Teresa would dive into things that are good but focused on that more than God Himself, it became an idol. As people in the church serving, we need to be cautious with what our eyes focus on, that we don’t focus so much on the things of God and forget to focus on God Himself. If we’re constantly going to those things because they are of God but still not God, where is our hope lying anyways? Seek God First (25:30) When we pursue God first, all of these other things follow. First seek the kingdom of God and all of his righteousness and all of these things will be added to you! The Importance of Quality Time (26:45) Face to face interaction is so important! Teresa shares how going off social media has realigned her relationships and priorities in seeing her loved ones and close connections face to face when possible. Face to Face (29:30) When you see people face to face you get to see the intricate parts of how God created that person. Made for Community (31:30) We were made for community and connection. It’s not always easy or convenient to meet in person but it is absolutely worth it! Encouragement from Teresa (33:30) Teresa encourages all listeners to keep seeking after God, to hear from God, and to be still. If you’re caught in a situation not knowing what to do, simply respond to the beckoning of God and remember He is God and watch what will unfold. CONNECT with Carrie Robaina by clicking here.
