After losing the third and final game of their three game series with the Texas Rangers, the Boston Red Sox head home to take on the Orioles.
The Boston Red Sox improve to 80-72 on the year after another great outing by starter Eduardo Rodriguez.
Last night the Boston Red Sox broke their five-game losing streak by beating the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4.
Last night the Red Sox suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the Minnesota Twins pushing their season record to 75-65.
The Red Sox beat the Twins 6-2 last night behind seven shutout innings from Eduardo Rodriguez (17-5, 3.81 ERA) and two home runs from Mookie Betts (25 HR, 75 RBI).
Yesterday the Sox had an off day after sweeping a two-game set with the Colorado Rockies. Tonight, they battle Mike Trout and the Angels.
The Red Sox were able to complete the sweep of the Rockies, pick up a game on both the Rays and the Athletics, and saw their two young stars go off for six hits and three homers combined.
Six games out with 30 left to play. With half the games are against teams with a winning record, it’s playoff baseball for the Red Sox from here on out. The conversation might be getting stale at this point, but the wild card is still the sole focus in Boston. Let’s take a look at the upcoming series with Colorado. Good news: the Rockies suck. What used to be a pennant contender is now a bottom feeder. Bad news: Rick Porcello gets the nod. At Coors Field. For those of you that are unfamiliar, Coors Field is in Denver, otherwise known as the Mile High City. Porcello is a fly ball guy. Put those two together and the end result is not going to be pretty. Tune in at 7:10 to see who wins the battle.
After finishing up their suspended game with the Kansas City Royals, the Sox get ready to take on former Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres.
After a five game winning streak, Boston has managed to climb back into the race. 6 games back with 35 left to play. The odds may not be in their favor, considering that it would take an absolutely extraordinary run, but baseball is a game of numbers, and until a team is mathematically eliminated, they should never be forgotten.
Rick Porcello takes the mound as he looks to lead Boston past the lowly Baltimore Orioles
The Red Sox took another win from Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon, taking the series. So now while Red Sox fans have some hope again, they head back to Boston to begin a three-game set with Baltimore on Friday night.
The Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels last night on the back of Chris Sale's 8-inning 13 strikeout performance.
Message incoming for the Fenway Faithful: The losing streak that has been haunting your nightmares for the past eight days is finally over! Rick Porcello put together a strong six-inning effort that was matched with a couple of Monster bombs from Rafael Devers and Sam Travis. The bullpen looked shaky as always, but seven runs were enough of a buffer this time around to secure the win. Now five and a half games back from the second wild-card, the time for messing around has all but expired. Andrew Cashner is going to need to find the same mojo he was pitching with when he was a member of the Orioles. The 1-3 record and 7.33 ERA is not going to cut it. Lucky for him, he’s facing one of the worst teams in the league tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10.
Last night, Fenway Park looked as though all the helium in a balloon had seeped out. Deflated and dreary. Just 24 hours after the dormant trade deadline, the Rays finished their three-game sweep of the Red Sox with a 9-4 beat down. It’s as if once Dave Dombrowski announced there would be no changes to the lineup, the guys on the field accepted their fate. The heart and soul that carried this team to a championship is all but gone. Losing 8 out of 9 at home to a team that has a quarter of your payroll is absurd. Will they be able to turn it around in time? Who knows. Eduardo Rodriguez will have the first chance as he battles with James Paxton at Yankees Stadium tonight. Tomorrow features a vital doubleheader with the starts up for grabs. David Price returns Sunday Night for the rubber match.
If someone told me last week that the Red Sox were going to take three out of the four from the Yankees, I wouldn’t have believed them. My prediction was two games at best. Split the series, and then build from there. The fact that Boston came four runs away from sweeping New York caught everyone's attention. This road trip was the telltale sign. Would the Beantown Boys become sellers, knowing very well that they dug a hole too deep, or would they make a final push as buyers that see a light in the distance? It’s a faint one, but after this past weekend, there’s a light nonetheless. To keep moving towards it, Dombrowski is going to need to make an addition to the bullpen. With the deadline creeping up, the question of who will fill the hole grows.
Red Sox took care of business last night beating the American League East leading New York Yankees by a final score of 19-3
11 games back from the division-leading New York Yankees and two games back from their Wildcard competitors the Tampa Bay Rays, last night’s contest was a duel the Red Sox desperately needed to win. And win is exactly what they did. Eduardo Rodriguez was magnificent, throwing seven shutout innings of two-hit baseball while the offense blew up for seven runs in the third inning off of former Red Sox prospect Jaylen Beeks. Nathan Eovaldi made his long-awaited return to no fanfare as he got knocked around for three runs on five hits at Tropicana Field, prompting more search efforts for bullpen help from Dobroski. Game two of the series will feature a matchup between Chris Sale and Yonny Chirinos. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10.
Rafael Devers is putting on an MVP performance, and it’s exactly what the Red Sox need right now. In his last 28 games, the 22-year-old is batting .393 with 11 doubles, 9 home runs, and 30 RBIs. Somehow the numbers get even better against the Blue Jays who just so happened to be in Boston yesterday. Matched with Mookie Betts record-setting streak and Chris Sale's full form dominance, Boston came away with a 5-0 victory over Toronto. All factors are going to need to contribute in the upcoming stretch against the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. But first, it's down to Camden Yards for a three-game set with the Baltimore Orioles.
The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-8 after being propelled by rookie Michael Chavis's first career grand slam
Tonight the Sox start the unofficial second-half of their baseball season as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a World Series rematch
The 90th MLB Allstar game is finally here and J.D. Martinez has seized the starting DH role. With Alex Cora managing the American League, Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts will likely get turns in the lineup, but that isn't the biggest Red Sox story right now. Hundreds of miles away, Dave Dombrowski has been busy. Ken Rosenthal reported that the GM cast a wide net in search of starting pitching and that the New York Mets took the bait, offering up trade talks involving Zach Wheeler. No bids have been published but as many as ten other teams have expressed interest. It will be a fight if anything else.
The Boston Red Sox stole the series away from the Toronto Blue Jays, grabbing an 8-7 win after being down 6-1 early
