2025 BBWAA HOF Ballot Happy New Year! It's once again time to talk about the Hall of Fame, this time the writers' ballot. There are plenty of worthy candidates returning to the ballot, and two standout first year candidates to watch. Japanese icon Ichiro Suzuki is a lock for induction this year. Although he didn't debut until he was 27, the spry savant amassed over 3,000 hits, 1,400 runs, 10 All-Stars and Gold Gloves, not to mention two batting titles, a Rookie of the Year, and a MVP. He also holds the single season hit record, with 262 in the 2004 season. Although not the first Japanese player in MLB, his smashing success paved the way for other Japanese stars such as Hideki Matsui, Yu Darvish, and Shohei Ohtani. The only question about Ichiro is whether or not he'll be unanimous. Don't sleep on ace lefty C.C. Sabathia's chances on his debut ballot. As one of just three left handed pitchers with 3,000 strikeouts (Steve Carlton and Randy Johnson the other two), Sabathia was the definition of a workhorse. Add in 250 wins, a Cy Young, a World Series, and an ALCS MVP, and you've got a Hall of Famer, especially in this era. Among the other first-year candidates, there are a few who could survive the 5% threshold to remain on ballot for another year. Félix Hernández was one of the most dominant starters in baseball from 2007 - 2015, but that might not be enough for the writers. Dustin Pedroia and Ian Kinsler were both excellent second basemen that frankly lack the longevity needed for enshrinement, but are certainly worthy cases to discuss, particularly on the same ballot as sabermetric darling Chase Utley. Russell Martin and Brian McCann come up short in the traditional counting stats that writers demand from catchers, but their advanced framing metrics put them in similar ranks as Joe Mauer, Buster Posey, and Yadier Molina. Of the returning candidates, Billy Wagner came up just short last year (73.8%), and he will need a push to get over in his final year on the ballot. In his second to last year, Andruw Jones appears to be stalling around 60% of the vote, not far off from induction, but not close enough to be confident he'll make it this year or the next. Carlos Beltrán and Chase Utley appear to be on track for induction in a few years time, though they'll need to continue their growth. AROD, ManRam, and Andy Pettitte would be in the Hall if not for PEDs, and they're not getting in anytime soon. How many will join Dick Allen and Dave Parker for a July celebration? Find out January 21st when the results are announced. On November 20th 2013 a very surprising trade took place as the Detroit Tigers traded Prince Fielder (and 30 million dollars) to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Ian Kinsler. Let's take a trip down memory lane and reminisce on a big trade from over 10 years ago!
How did Kinsler and Jack White become friends and business partners? What was it like playing with Beltre and Hamilton? Is Michael Young's clown fear a real thing or a bit? We get into all of these fun topics during the 2nd segment of our live interview with the great Michael Young and Ian Kinsler!
In the final segment with two Ranger greats, we hear their thoughts and fun stories on working with Ron Washington, what it was like bringing Elvis Andrus onto the team, and what the future holds for Kinsler and Young!
Who's your favorite athlete and why?! Did the Rangers winning the World Series heal any wounds? How does working in the front office change your mindset on the team? Michael Young & Ian Kinsler answer all of these questions and more!!
MY GOD! We have Michael Young AND Ian Kinsler BOTH in studio!! We start off by asking them about their friendship through the years, and their first thoughts on meeting each other. We then dig into past Ranger memories and get stories on Jackie Moore, A-Rod, and Cliff Lee. ENJOY!
GDP Script/ Top Stories for Oct 31st Publish Date: Oct 30th Hennsler: 15 From the Henssler Financial Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, October 31st and happy heavenly birthday to actor John Candy. ***UNCLE BUCK – PRINCIPAL MOLLY SCENE*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Kia Mall of Georgia. For ex-Texas Ranger Ian Kinsler, there is nothing complicated about the war in Israel Despite Economic Struggles, Norcross Continues To See Business, Residential Development Activity Duluth Police Arrest 45-Year-Old Man After Fatal Hit-And-Run All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: MOG STORY 1: Mac Engel: For ex-Texas Ranger Ian Kinsler, there is nothing complicated about the war in Israel Former Texas Rangers second baseman and current team advisor Ian Kinsler has a personal connection to the conflict in Israel. As a citizen of Israel and a player for the Israeli national baseball team, Kinsler is deeply affected by the events in the country. He revealed that people he knows in Israel have been able to find safety, but others have lost their lives in the ongoing war. Kinsler believes that Israel has the right to protect itself and compares the situation to the 9/11 attacks in the United States. He expressed his thoughts and prayers for those affected and hopes for a swift resolution to the conflict. As incidents of antisemitism have increased since the conflict began, Kinsler also spoke out against antisemitism, stating that it should not be happening. Having visited the places that were attacked, Kinsler has a firsthand understanding of the impact of the war, particularly in areas like Gaza where bomb shelters are prevalent and the remnants of past conflicts still remain. STORY 2: Despite Economic Struggles, Norcross Continues To See Business, Residential Development Activity The city of Norcross has seen a slowdown in speculative development due to higher interest rates and longer loan approval times. Despite this, there are several projects under construction or being planned in the city, and businesses are moving to or expanding in the area. The economic development director mentioned that the slowdown in development allows the city to focus on supporting existing businesses. One significant project in progress is the 280-unit Prose Norcross residential development by Alliance Residential, set to open next summer. Additionally, there are plans for a new parking lot, housing redevelopment, a senior veteran residential development, and various businesses opening in the downtown area. ChefSuite, a ghost kitchen operator, is also coming to Buford Highway, offering kitchen space for a variety of culinary businesses. STORY 3: Duluth Police Arrest 45-Year-Old Man After Fatal Hit-And-Run A man, Nidar Ballan-Bellan, has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and hit and run in connection with a pedestrian's death. The incident occurred on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Duluth in the early morning hours of October 23. Cassius Franswah, the 26-year-old pedestrian, was hit by a car and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The Duluth Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit conducted an investigation, identifying the type of vehicle involved as a Nissan Sentra. Using their Real-Time Crime Center's cameras, they tracked the vehicle to a specific area within the city, leading to Ballan-Bellan's arrest. He faces felony charges related to the incident. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back Break 2: Peggy Slappy – ESOG – TOM WAGES OBITS STORY 4: Suwanee voters must decide two City Council races In Suwanee's upcoming municipal election on November 7, there will be at least one leadership change. Post 1 Councilwoman Heather Hall is not seeking re-election, and three candidates are running to replace her: Karim Ladha, Julianna McConnell, and Glenn Weyant. Additionally, Post 2 Councilman Larry Pettiford is facing an opponent, Bradley Golz, in his re-election bid. However, the mayoral race is unopposed, as Mayor Jimmy Burnette is running for re-election without any challengers. STORY 5: San Diego jail populations plummeted during the pandemic. It didn't impact crime, researchers say A study conducted by researchers at the University of California, Irvine, and the University of Arizona focused on six California counties and found that plummeting inmate populations during the pandemic, driven by bail rule changes and decarceration efforts, did not consistently impact violent or property crime rates. While some counties experienced crime increases linked to reduced jail populations, others saw no correlation between these factors. The study's findings suggest that crime trends were influenced by factors beyond decarceration efforts and provide evidence that reducing inmate populations may not negatively affect public safety, supporting the case for criminal reform measures. We'll be back in a moment Break 3: INGLES 1 - JACKSON EMC STORY 6: Can Hamas war give Republicans a new chance to woo pro-Israel voters in 2024? The Republican Jewish Coalition's annual leadership summit was held in Las Vegas with all major GOP presidential candidates and other party officials in attendance. The event provided an opportunity for Republican candidates to show their support for Israel, which is a priority for many Republican voters and Jewish Americans. Although the majority of American Jews identify as Democrats, Republicans have made some inroads among Jewish voters, particularly on foreign policy issues. The recent conflict between Israel and Hamas has brought Israel back to the center of American Jewish life, and the candidates hope to attract Jewish voters in key battleground states such as Pennsylvania. While the Republican Party's pro-Israel stance may appeal to some Jewish voters, many of their values align with the Democratic Party. President Joe Biden's response to the conflict has earned him high marks even among some Republicans. STORY 7: Norcross Adopts Master Arts and Cultural Plan The City of Norcross has adopted the Norcross Master Arts and Cultural Plan, aiming to expand its public art identity, celebrate its cultural diversity, and recognize its history. This plan, developed over 14 years by the Norcross Public Arts Commission, will enrich the lives of citizens and stakeholders through arts and culture. The plan focuses on public art like sculptures, mosaics, and murals, fostering connections, encouraging dialogue, and exploring the city's rich history. Several public art projects are already in progress, with calls for artists issued to beautify public fences, create a gateway to Heritage Park, and craft interactive murals. Residents and local artists are encouraged to participate in shaping the city's artistic future. We'll have final thoughts after this. Mike Trout hit two mammoth blasts to take the MLB lead in home runs at 23, and yet that still was not enough to propel the Angels to victory in Seattle. With another loss and potential sweep looming, the Halos could find themselves 8 games back in the loss column after the series. Yes, we are in mid-June. Yes, there are still 90+ games to go. But the mediocre play over the last two months has limited the Angels offensively, allowing the Astros and Mariners to further separate themselves. Problem is, this was supposed to be a veteran-driven team, with guys like Ian Kinsler, Zack Cozart, and Kole Calhoun adding even more juice to the lineup. Wild West Wednesday examines the state of the AL West. Even though the Angels entered Seattle winners of 7 of 9, they have lost ground in the division over the past two weeks, as no one can slow down the Astros and Mariners.Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. After another loss in Detroit to close out a disappointing road trip, many Halo fans are understandably frustrated with the Angels' play lately. However, hope is on the horizon with the Rangers and Royals visiting Anaheim. The Angels are plagued by many issues after more than two months this season. Kole Calhoun has struggled mightily at the plate. Ian Kinsler, while showing signs of coming back, has been underwhelming at second base. Injuries and inconsistency have decimated both the starting rotation and the bullpen. And yet, a team with Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Andrelton Simmons leaves plenty of room for optimism with more than 100 games still to play.Your questions also get answered in this Friday Mailbag episode, so tune in and find out why the Angels are still very much in the playoff hunt this summer.Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. The Angel fanbase seems to take Mike Scioscia for granted. With just 1 playoff appearance in the past 8 seasons, many are ready to move on from a man who just picked up his 1,600th win in MLB.Yes, some of his bullpen decisions drive us wild. Yes, some lineup choices leave us scratching our heads at times. The contact play with a runner on third still drives me insane at times. But Mike Scioscia just passed Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda in total wins, and he did it in less games and the same amount of playoff appearances. When Scioscia's brand of aggressive baseball goes into full speed, it can be some of the most aesthetically pleasing baseball to watch. For today, let's all admire the work that Mike Scioscia has put in to a franchise that was an afterthought in the league before he arrived.Wednesday also means we take a look around the AL West to see where the Halos stand, reflecting on a bounce back win in Detroit that saw positive contributions from Ian Kinsler, Luis Valbuena, and Martin Maldonado.Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. With the Angels continuing to struggle on their current 10-game road trip, they looked to their supposed ace to halt the woes. Garrett Richards failed to buck that trend in New York.Struggling with the command of his fastball, Richards consistently got behind in the count, allowing the Yankee hitters to stay patient and let things unravel. Richards failed to work out of the 3rd inning, adding to his long list of poor starts against New York. Looking back over his starts this season, there are only a handful of quality starts, let alone outings that define an ace of a Major League rotation.Tuesday also means it's time for the Down on the Farm Report. This week, the focus centers on the holes at the Major League level, defined by the struggles of Kole Calhoun, Ian Kinsler, and Luis Valbuena. Can David Fletcher stay hot in a potential call-up to Anaheim? Maybe Matt Thaiss is the solution at first base? Is there a dark horse candidate to fill any of these roles? Somehow, the Angels were able to take a series victory in Toronto, and now might have some momentum heading to a tough series in the Bronx.Friday means your mailbag questions are the focus of the show, and we had a record number of submissions. Should Shohei Ohtani hit leadoff? When will Ian Kinsler be moved back down in the order? Will David Fletcher receive a call up from Salt Lake soon? What type of package can the Halos offer for Kelvin Herrera? Is Chase Headley an option to sign and insert into the lineup. All of that and more in today's episode!Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. After a day off, we hoped the Angels would come out rejuvenated and kickstart their 10-game road trip with passion. That never happened...A costly error by Chris Young led to 4 unearned runs in the 1st inning, and the Angels could only crank out 4 hits as a team, succumbing to the wizardry of J.A. Happ. Multiple at-bats were hard to watch, as Zack Cozart and Ian Kinsler both had their slumps of the past few weeks continue, among other Halos. This lack of production offensively needs to change in a hurry, or the Angels risk finding themselves more than just a few games out of a playoff spot when the draft rolls around.Wild West Wednesday also examines the state of the AL West, and though the injuries continue to pile up for the Mariners, they continue to win games and distance themselves from the Halos.Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. With the American League's best road record and team batting average, there is cause for optimism as the Angels head north of the border to Toronto. Especially given the recent struggles of the Blue Jays...Something has to give, right? The Angels are coming off of a 4-7 homestand, while the Blue Jays are 2-7 in their last nine games, getting swept by Oakland most recently. Time will tell if notable cold spells will end for Justin Upton, Kole Calhoun, Ian Kinsler, and pretty much everyone else in the lineup not named Andrelton Simmons.Jo Adell headlines the Down on the Farm report given his scorching week, while Jose Suarez gets his due for an unreal 29 strikeouts in just over his last 14 innings pitched in Double-A. His struggles in spring were well documented. His every move at the beginning of the season seemed to be tracked by a horde of reporters. Lately, it seems that we've lost a little bit of the Shohei Ohtani hype.Ohtani reminded all of us last night of his brilliance as a two-way threat, smashing a late home run to punctuate a 7-4 Angels' victory in the series opener against the Twins. Ian Kinsler also had a nice bounce back effort, slugging a two-run home run in the early going to kickstart the Halos' offensive output, hopefully propelling him to get out of a multi-week slump. While Kole Calhoun went hitless, he provided the go-ahead RBI with a sac fly in the 6th, giving the Angels a lead they would not relinquish.Your mailbag questions are also answered in Friday's episode, covering everything from Kole Calhoun and the Angels' right field situation, to Griffin Canning ascending quickly through the organization. Yesterday, we discussed if Mike Trout should move up to the leadoff spot in the order due to the struggles of Ian Kinsler at the plate. Those concerns were not exactly quelled in the first game of a 2 game set in Colorado.Ian Kinsler had a tough 0-4 day, dropping his batting average to a season low .187 on the season. Up until Tuesday's game, it hadn't appeared to hamper the Angels' offensive output, largely due to the hot streak of Trout and Andrelton Simmons, and the turnaround of Justin Uption. But many veterans in the Halo lineup have failed to contribute consistently at the level they are capable of, such as Ian Kinsler, Kole Calhoun, Luis Valbuena, and others. Also this Wednesday, a journey through the entire American League on Wild West Wednesday, taking a look at where the Angels stand with the rest of the circuit. Ian Kinsler is off to a tought start in 2018, with his batting average falling below the Mendoza Line. With Mike Trout lighting the baseball world on fire, should Mike Scioscia consider batting MLB's best player in the leadoff spot?Despite Kinsler's struggles, the team has not skipped a beat as a team offensively, averaging 7 runs per game in Seattle after bludgeoning the Orioles' staff for 3 games before that. However, perhaps now is the time to experiment and give a few struggling Halos the opportunity to find their strokes. Kole Calhoun and Ian Kinsler have gone on notable cold streaks, with Zack Cozart showing some signs of life after a few tough weeks. A lineup with Mike Trout starting things off could spell early doom for opposing pitchers, or perhaps mess with the mojo of the rest of the lineup.Tuesday also means the Down on the Farm Report, featuring three guys who have been dominating the upper levels of the Angels' system. Jesus Castillo and Griffin Canning are scorching on the mound in Mobile, while David Fletcher leads the Pacific Coast League in hits. Also, congratulations to Jabari Blash for earning his Halo debut on Sunday!Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. Albert Pujols checked another milestone off the list, roping a single to right field on Friday for hit #3,000. That ended up being a major highlight in a weekend full of them for the Angels in Seattle. Not only did the team win the series against their division rivals in the Pacific Northwest, Mike Trout went 9-for-14, including a mammoth home run on Sunday. The trio of Garrett Richards, Tyler Skaggs, and Shohei Ohtani all pitched very well, with Ohtani's performance standing out, blending his devastating array of pitches. If those three can perform like a true 1-2-3 punch atop the Halo rotation, the ceiling for this squad is untapped. Not everything came up roses for the Halos this weekend, however. The bullpen struggled mightily at times, especially in Saturday's loss. Ian Kinsler continued to slump, collecting just one hit on the weekend and seeing his batting average drop below .200. Simply put, not acceptable for a leadoff hitter. All of that, and a review on fried grasshoppers, a delicacy at Safeco Field. Andrelton Simmons and Mike Trout both homered while Tyler Skaggs kept the Rangers' offense at bay long enough for the Angels to pull away in the middle innings, cruising to an 11-1 victory to clinch another series victory in 2018.The Halo offense has absolutely mashed in the first 12 games this season, amassing the most runs in Major League Baseball while also owning the highest team batting average in the American League. All of this is happening with the perceived slump of Mike Trout, Ian Kinsler playing in only one game due to injury, and the performances of sluggers Justin Upton and Albert Pujols ranging hot and cold. Depth has been a welcome addition, as Martin Maldonado continues his torrid pace at the plate, while Andrelton Simmons has also picked up where he left off from a career year in 2017.Wednesday also means another Wild West Wednesday segment, taking a look around the AL West, where the Angels find themselves tied with the Houston Astros in first place. Lastly, the show concludes with Shohei Ohtani, and why it might be time to pump the brakes a bit on the Ohtani hype train.
