Today our guest is Grant Emanuel, who is the Marketing Director of the Chamberlain Group – which is the world’s largest manufacturer of garage door, commercial door and gate openers. In November 2018, during a Sydney storm, the Chamberlain Group’s head office in Australia flooded – with the equivalent volume of water in a 25m swimming pool. Not only was there extensive water damage, the ceilings collapsed and everything inside was destroyed. Within 72 hours, the 40 plus member Chamberlain team were back up and running. The disaster challenged and changed the Chamberlain team for the better. Grant was part of the team responsible for the decisions around this. So today we’re going to talk about how they responded so effectively. With many businesses dealing with natural disaster across Australia at the moment, we hope that this is going to be a really helpful discussion.
Our guest is Fred Harrison, who is the CEO of Ritchies Supermarkets. We talk about how the brand has made it all this way to become the longest serving supermarket in Australia, the importance of customers and community and the industry more largely. Fred started out working for Ritchies 45 years ago as a trolley boy, so it’s safe to say he has a lot of knowledge on the company! The supermarket celebrates the 150 year milestone this year, and they are looking to use old tactics to bring an exciting future.
Today our guest is Jack Bowcott, who is the co-founder of goki, which was up until recently called Tipi – a hostel-focused technology company. goki provides tech solutions to hostels exclusively, enabling guest to check-in, download their keys, meet with guests, browse local experiences and much more. Jack founded the company in 2014 and has recently received a $3 million (US Dollars) investment from Hostelworld, which has allowed them to move in to Dublin and London. As we discuss in the podcast, Jack founded the company under the name Tipi and has pivoted the direction of the business in order to achieve the success they are currently seeing. The investment and partnership with Hostelworld, which came about from simple networking and word of mouth, has enabled them to gain more than capital; they now have access to more support which proved critical in their repositioning of the brand, product and service offering across mediums. We ask Jack about the re-brand, the investment and generally learn more on his journey of founding the company.

Jason Lucchese is a seasoned public servant with more than 19 years of experience executing large-scale government programs including the introduction of SuperStream and Single Touch Payroll. Currently ATO Assistant Commissioner and Single Touch Payroll Program Lead, Jason works closely with the employers, payroll service providers and intermediaries to support the introduction of STP. We aim to clarify STP for you, and give you the most reliable information possible by taking it back to the STP basics. Discussing why the ATO decided to bring the system in the first place helps us to understand the benefits for small businesses, and so far the feedback of the 70% or so of businesses that are signed up has been positive. There are some fears amongst small employers that STP is perhaps difficult to use, however as Jason explains, it has been designed to actually make lives easier. Throughout the podcast, we ask Jason how small business owners can get educated on STP, what options will suit them best and the fact that although the deadline has passed, there is still time to sign up.
