It's estimated Australians are spending $4 billion more each year on electricity than we need to, simply because we're not on the best energy plan available to us. But very few of us switch retailers because the process is too tedious and opaque. Frustrated by his own painful experience trying to switch electricity retailers, Matt Peterson has turned his ordeal into a startup business that could help us all save hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Automised Energy is an automated platform that helps Australians cut through the energy comparison chaos using our own data, and newly available legislation, the Consumer Data Right. Unlike many comparison services, Automised Energy isn't tied to any retailer, which means their recommendations are driven by what's best for us, not a commission.

Bill Stone, chief investment officer at Glenview Trust, says that the stock market has priced in so much good news that it makes him want to be more cautious, looking into headline risks for potential value opportunities. Stone notes that the stock market has had previous periods with three strongly positive, consecutive years — and it could complete that process again this year — but it makes him nervous that the market could adjust and re-set. That's not pushing him out of stocks, but has muted his expectations. Charles Rotblut, editor at AAII Journal, discusses the organization's investor-sentiment survey, which shows that nervousness is on the rise, but so is bullish sentiment. Kyle Guske, investment analyst at New Constructs looks at large-cap value funds and finds an attractive pick this week — rather than looking for the standard Danger Zone trouble spot — noting that even in a category that is doing well, top potential performers stand out. Plus, author Ross White discusses his recent book, "The Tree That Bends: How a Flexible Mind Can Help You Thrive."

In this episode we WadeOutThere with Chris Coole from Toronto, Ontario. Chris grew up fishing with his uncle for walleye, bass, and musky as a child until the mystique of fly fishing captured his imagination. About the same time Chris got his hands on a fly rod, he picked up a banjo. That was over thirty years ago, and they've been part of his life ever since. Chris's love of fly fishing makes its way into many of the songs and tunes he writes in the forms of places and feelings. His work has given him the opportunity to travel the world as a professional musician, who always seems to find a way to wet a line on the road. Chris is both a solo artist and a member of “The Lonesome Ace Stringband.” We discuss the value of keeping things simple in music and fly fishing in pursuit of falling into the flow, and the traditions and variations that have been passed down in both fiddle tunes and fly fishing. Please listen to the end, as Chris treats us to a performance of one of his banjo tunes that was inspired by fly fishing. To learn more about Chris and the topics we discussed in this episode, check out the following links:ChrisCoole.comLonesomeAce.comShow notes + MORENewsletter Sign-UpView Jason's ArtworkThanks for listening.VR- Jason

We often receive the message that we can have it all; we can do it all. Social media messages, societal expectations, and our own self talk often feeds the lie that we can do EVERYTHING. When we don't live up to the unrealistic expectation that we can do everything and succeed at everything, there is a cost to our mental health. In this episode, we discuss this topic with New York Times best selling author, Greg McKeown. He helps identify the lie that we can do everything, and instead offers a path of wisdom, balance, and priorities instead of the wild racing that we often indulge in when we are trying to say yes to everything. He gives us very applicable steps on how to make doing what truly matters to us easy. Affiliate income is an AMAZING way to earn extra money as a business owner. If you want to share things you love with people who may already be asking you about those things, affiliate income is for you. And here's the thing: for years now, my business has earned multiple five figures a year from affiliate income alone. I've even had years where it's been over a hundred thousand dollars of revenue coming from affiliate income alone. I'm telling you that for two reasons: What I'm doing to make affiliate income WORKS If it looks like I'm not spending tons of time and energy working on making affiliate income, it's because I'm not. I'm not saying affiliate marketing is passive, but it is more passive than other types of income we typically have as business owners. And today, I'm going to share 3 hacks to make adding an affiliate income revenue stream to your business even easier. And a little reminder from a website designer? You'll make more affiliate income when you have a great website. Not only are you more likely to get approved by affiliate companies that have stricter programs when you have a website, but you'll also be set up to make more affiliate income when you can blog and create landing pages for the companies that you partner with. My full website templates all come equipped with an amazing blog design that is set up to support you whether you're like writing your first three blog posts ever or you're transferring over 200+ blog posts to your new Showit website. As a blogger and podcaster myself, I put so much strategy into thinking through the blog templates. I make sure I'm creating thoughtfully designed sidebars to maximize space so that readers can know whether or not they want to click into a post to read it, and make sure that each layout has clear search functionality so that people can find what they need within your content. I also always design thoughtful 404 pages for when you have a broken link. If that sounds like what you need right now, use the code BBPODCAST for 10% off ANY template from my shop.
