Congrats on making it through another week. Is it just me, or does that feel like an accomplishment by itself? To celebrate, I've got another round of updates on what's been happening at the intersection of business, technology, and human experience. As always, thanks to everyone who has contributed to the running list. And with that, here we go! End of Remote Work? - Opening this week's on a spicy note. This one continues to leave me shaking my head. Despite the overwhelming data, many executive leaders seem set on forcing their employees into their familiar box. Check out why this one in particular gets me feisty. GenZ & Millenial Loyalty - There's a rise in commentary discussing the dwindling loyalty of GenZ and Millenial employees, but they conveniently fail to tell the whole story. While it drives clicks and soothes execs struggling with dismal retention, I'd encourage people to considering the bigger picture. AI vs. The Law - While tragic, it's not completely surprising to see an exponential rise in teens abusing AI to bully their peers. Kids do stupid stuff and often fail to consider the implications. Unfortunately, the lack of legal accountability seems to only be making matters worse. AI Resurrection - If you could bring back a dead loved one with AI, would you do it? It may sound like science fiction, but there's a growing number of people who are going for it. I've got all sorts of mixed feelings here. Samantha Rayburn-Trubyk (she/her) lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba with her husband Ryan and son Yale. Samantha and Yale were born with Achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism.   Samantha holds a Master's Degree in Disability Studies and a BA Adv. degree from the University of Manitoba where she majored in Labour and Workplace Studies and an Adult Learning certificate specializing in Workplace Learning from the University of Calgary.    Samantha has worked in Human Resources for 20 years and is currently the Director of Human Resources for a Winnipeg based lumber and construction company.    Since 2015, she has been President of Little People of Manitoba. In 2022, she was elected to the Board of Directors as the Advocacy Director for Little People of America, a non-profit with over 7,000 members.    Samantha is an ardent advocate for the rights of people with disabilities including little people. In 2017, she advocated for Manitoba to become the first province to annually declare October 25th as Dwarfism Awareness Day. In 2019, together with Sport Manitoba successfully advocated for the removal of the term midget from all major sports leagues in Manitoba, and shortly thereafter Hockey Canada followed suit.   Previously, Samantha was a featured speaker at RBC Winnipeg's Diversity & U employee event, the 3rd annual Winnipeg Women's March and at the Home Depot's Women in Retail conference. “I believe SMEs are the key to upskilling and rescaling in your organization. And I believe that if their knowledge is not leveraged, then you are missing an incredibly important opportunity to gather tacit knowledge,” explains Michele Medved, senior instructional designer and corporate learning professional with over 20 years of experience. Michele is the author of The Guide to Working with Subject Matter Experts and she has worked across various industries helping to extract and utilize the knowledge of SMEs to create learning deliverables. She joins Mike Horne in conversation to talk about the importance of gathering the tacit knowledge that all subject matter experts have and how to use that knowledge to give novice employees the information they need to become proficient at their jobs.    When their knowledge and experience is put to good use, subject matter experts can be the key to rescaling and upskilling an organization. Since most of the knowledge of an SME is under the surface and not necessarily documented, it is crucial to know how to ask the right questions to extract that knowledge. Michele uses the acronym FRED which means focused, relevant, engaging, and deep so that she can get the most content rich information out of SMEs when she is speaking with them. Then, she uses that tacit knowledge to create learning tools like simulations, presentations, guidebooks, infographics, and more in order to make that knowledge easily accessible within the organization. Matt Huff was born in Emmett, ID, and raised in Teton Valley. He calls Idaho home. He loves the outdoors and considers it a dream to grow up here. Brother Huff served a mission in Maceio, Brazil. He met his wife, Serena, at Idaho State University. They were married in the Boise Idaho Temple and are the parents of 4 children.   Matt decided that he was going to be rich and dropped out of college his sophomore year. He made a promise to his wife that he would complete his education. He went on to get a bachelor's degree from George Fox University and is currently working on his master's degree from Boise State University in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning program. Brother Huff owned a few different businesses in the first 12 years of his career.
