a full flowing Jivamukti class that ends with extended savasana (a led nidra session) and meditation (in apana vayu mudra) we dive in to the A – the beginning; U-the sustaining aspect; and the M – the resolve of it all... The sound of OṂ (A+U+M+silence) and its cosmic resonance is known as Śabda Brahman. Reflected in savāsana lies the grace that reveals itself only when we allow for “un-doing”. Yogis know that we cannot “do” enlightenment, it is our practice to go through the steps to be receptive to it.. .The Winter Solstice marks an auspicious shift in daylight, when we begin to emerge from the darkness back into the light. On the shortest, darkest day of the year, we are urged to call on the divine light from within. The long dark days of winter can lend themselves to physical stagnation, fatigue, and hibernation. In this yin yoga sequence, we honor the pause before we are called to expand once again. Just as the muscles need our attention to stay healthy and resilient, so does the connective tissue In order to keep our muscles healthy we need to approach them in a dynamic way, we need to move and stretch. Muscles respond to stress and effort, however our Yin tissues are very different. Rather than movement and striving, which are yang ways of approaching things, our yin tissues need gentleness and acceptance. When we go into a Yin posture the first line of resistance we face as our joints open or close is from our muscles. Get cozy, dim the lights, and please let me know how you feel after the practice. at the beginning of the class we chant: Asato ma sad gamaya Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya Mrtyor ma amrtam gamaya. The body, senses and material mind are magnetized. -Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati Through deep relaxation, a state of Yoga Nidra arises, which can lead to kaivalyam, or samadhi, in which the sense of individualization merges with absolute, transcendental joy. The practice of shavasana (corpse pose) can facilitate the arising of this state. But for success in shavasana, you have to understand, as Shri Brahmananda suggests, “how to use fixation, suggestion and sensation, and how to use the proper pause for time.” Please pass this link along, This class was recorded as Instagram Live, just get cozy and let go.During a time while we are mainly staying at home, let us stay connected through practice and reverence. This is a yin sequence to open your heart and shoulders. The meridians that we mainly work with are for the heart, lung and small intestines. Yin yoga is so amazing complimentary effects to the more yang lifestyle and yoga practices we do. Ideally we have both energies in our life: yin is the more feminine, receptive, lunar quality and yang refers to the more active, striving, masculine energy. From a physical point of view there are aspects of the body that are more yin – the connective tissue, and aspects that are more yang, –the muscles. Long held postures to release tension and return to our Yin nature.
