This episode is brought to you by Fatty15 and Blueland. When it comes to weight loss, most people rely on the usual strategies—cutting calories and exercising more. But what happens when these methods don't work? And how do we ensure we're losing fat, not muscle? It's time to rethink our approach. Instead of just focusing on the number on the scale, we should prioritize body recomposition—building a stronger, healthier body that supports longevity and resilience as we age. Today on The Dhru Purohit Show, we bring you a special compilation episode featuring Dhru's conversations with leading experts on why body composition is more important than your scale weight. Sal Di Stefano, Mind Pump co-founder and fitness expert, explains why body composition matters more than the number on the scale. He breaks down the most efficient and sustainable ways to exercise and highlights the crucial role muscle plays in overall health. Sal also reveals why lasting motivation for a healthier lifestyle must come from within. By adopting practical, sustainable strategies, we can boost energy, improve well-being, and achieve our fitness goals—all while promoting longevity. JJ Virgin shares her top strategies for weight loss, muscle building, and vibrant aging, emphasizing the power of resistance training for sustained fat loss and the importance of tracking personal goals for long-term motivation. Sal Di Stefano began his fitness journey at just 18, quickly rising to prominence as a trainer and opening some of the largest big-box gyms in the California Bay Area. By 24, he launched a wellness-focused fitness studio that combined expertise in hormones, nutrition, gut health, and fitness training. Renowned wildlife ecologist Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant visits Google to discuss her book “Wild Life: Finding My Purpose in an Untamed World,” where she explores the ever-shifting relationship between humans, animals, and the Earth. Growing up in the diverse and bustling California Bay Area, renowned wildlife ecologist Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant always felt worlds away from the white male adventurers she watched explore the wilderness on TV. She dreamed of a future where she could spend sleepless nights under the crowded canopies of the Amazon and the starry skies of the savanna. But as Rae set off on her own expeditions in the wild, she saw nature's delicate balance in a new light. Wild Life follows Rae on her adventures and explorations in some of the world's most remote locales. Hers is a story about a nearly twenty-year career in the wild—carving a niche as one of very few Black female scientists—and the challenges she had to overcome, expectations she had to leave behind, and the many lessons she learned along the way. An incredible journey spanning the Great Plains of North America to the rainforests of Madagascar, Wild Life sheds light on our pivotal relationship and responsibility to the natural world and the relatives—both human and otherwise—that we share it with. In recent times, an essential piece of our nation's history is facing challenges and censorship across the country, making it all the more crucial we reaffirm our commitment to honoring and understanding our shared narrative. Our discussion today is not just a journey through the past; it's a conversation about the importance of preserving these narratives in the face of attempts to erase them. Historian Jan Batiste Adkin's work meticulously documents the rich history of Black people in these regions, shedding light on the experiences of these communities. She is the author of "African Americans of San Francisco," "African Americans of Monterey County," and "African Americans of San Jose and Santa Clara County" and in this conversation she sheds light on the major trends and experiences of Black communities in the California Bay Area from the time of the establishment of the Golden State. This conversation was recorded live at Esalen in late February of 2024. Visit Jan Adkins at https://www.africanamericanhistories.com/

We are back to podcasting, after taking some time off. Kristine has not been feeling well, and is now starting to recover. While Kris is changing work schedules slightly next year. We also have a comedian in the family - Ezekiel. He has been doing stand up comedy in his town for the open mic night. https://podtasticaudio.com/easy Then we are joined by Debbie Weiss. A former attorney who earned her MFA in creative writing from Saint Mary's College of California in 2020 at age 56. A longtime resident of the California Bay Area, , she turned to writing after losing George, her high school sweetheart and husband of 32 years, and she found herself single and living alone for the first time in her life. Weiss's essays have been published in The New York Times's “Modern Love” column, HuffPost, Woman's Day, Good Housekeeping, and Reader's Digest, among other publications. This April marks ten years since she lost her husband George to cancer in April 2013. They led isolated lives and that they had to create a new life or else reconcile themselves to a very lonely existence. She recovered from my loss and moved forward by taking small steps forward that eventually led to leaps. Her book “Available As Is: A Midlife Widow's Search for Love” was published this past September. It talks about creating a new life after widowhood, including dating, which was quite a surprise since she hadn't dated since 1980 as a high school junior. In order to recover from my loss, she had to reinvent herself including getting an MFA in writing at age 56, finding new connections and eventually a second life partner. Her book is about my journey and can help other women who find themselves alone at midlife. https://debbieweissauthor.com/ https://www.facebook.com/debbieweissauthor https://www.instagram.com/debbie_weiss_author/ https://www.tiktok.com/@dweisswriter ***** The Kris and Kristine Show ***** http://www.krisandkristineshow.com https://www.kristinesmithdesigns.com K2 RADIO: https://live365.com/station/K2-RADIO-a04551 Email: krisandkristinepodcast@gmail.com Voice Mail: https://www.speakpipe.com/KrisandKristineShow Twitter: https://twitter.com/k2showsandiego Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thek2showsandiego/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/k2showsandiego Patreon: www.patreon.com/thekrisandkristineshow

The Global Ecological Crisis That We're Facing Stacy Malkan • https://usrtk.org/• Book - Not Just a Pretty Face #StacyMalkan #CosmeticDangers#EnvironmentalHealthIssues Stacy Malkan is co-founder and managing editor of U.S. Right to Know, a nonprofit investigative research group focused on promoting transparency for public health usrtk.org. She began working on environmental health issues in 2001 and has researched food and agriculture, with a focus on agrichemical industry misinformation campaigns, since 2012.Stacy is author of the award-winning book, Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry. The book Is a The girls' guide to giving the cosmetics industry a makeover.Lead in lipstick? 1,4 dioxane in baby soap? Coal tar in shampoo? How is this possible?Simple. The $35 billion cosmetics industry is so powerful that they've kept themselves unregulated for decades. Not one cosmetic product has to be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration before hitting the market. Incredible? Consider this: The European Union has banned more than 1,100 chemicals from cosmetics. The United States has banned just 10.Only 11% of chemicals used in cosmetics in the US have been assessed for health and safety – leaving a staggering 89% with unknown or undisclosed effects.More than 70% of all personal care products may contain phthalates, which are linked to birth defects and infertility. Many baby soaps are contaminated with the cancer-causing chemical 1,4 dioxane. It's not just women who are affected by this chemists' brew. Shampoo, deodorant, face lotion and other products used daily by men, women and children contain hazardous chemicals that the industry claims are "within acceptable limits." But there's nothing acceptable about daily multiple exposures to carcinogenic chemicals-from products that are supposed to make us feel healthy and beautiful. Not Just a Pretty Face delves deeply into the dark side of the beauty industry and looks to hopeful solutions for a healthier future. This scathing investigation peels away less-than-lovely layers to expose an industry in dire need of an extreme makeover.Stacy Malkan is also a co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition of health groups that exposed hazardous chemicals in nail polish, baby products, make-up and hair products and pressured companies to reformulate to safer products. Her work has been published in Time magazine, New York Times, Washington Post, Nature Biotechnology and many other outlets. I turned to writing after George, my partner of 32 years, died of cancer in April 2013, and I found myself living alone for the first time at age 50.I needed to know I still existed after a year of being his caregiver, watching him disintegrate, feeling deep in my bones that somehow I was failing him. He was in denial so he thought he was going to recover even as his body abandoned him.I couldn't fix his illness, not could I jolt him into reality, nor get him to agree to palliative care, nor to involve his parents who were going to lose their only child. I thought I was crawling out of my skin. Through grief therapy, I found out I had post-traumatic stress disorder.Over the next few years, I sort of got better, in dribs and drabs, but the loneliness enveloped me. For 32 years, George and I had eaten dinner together almost every night, then curled up in bed to wake up beside each other each morning. I still wonder, where does all that love go? Is it transmuted into protective energy or is it just gone?I was a practicing attorney for over ten years which lends my writing an acrid tone of bitterness and irony. In an effort to work on that, I also earned an MFA in creative nonfiction from Saint Mary's College of California in May of 2020.My essays have been published in The New York Times' “Modern Love” column, HuffPost, Woman's Day, Good Housekeeping, Elle Decor, and Reader's Digest, among other publications. My award-winning blog, debbieweissauthor.com dispenses empathy and advice on grief and dating after loss.I've been in the California Bay Area since I was six, and currently live in Benicia, CA. I can usually be found walking by the water, on a hiking trail, in a yoga class, or discussing the virtues of cheese with my second life partner, Randal.DebbieFind Debbie here Instagram Website FacebookTikTok〰️〰️Shanny

Sal started as a professional in the fitness industry as a trainer at the age of 18. His passion for fitness, combined with his love of people, quickly propelled him into big box gym management by the time he was 19 years old. During his career in gym management, he grand opened some of the largest gyms in the California Bay Area and was often recognized as a top performer in sales, production, and team leadership, earning him accolades from top industry leaders. At the age of 24, he left the commercial gym industry to open his own fitness and wellness studio after he became dissatisfied with the big-box gym approach to health and fitness. He wanted to bring a wellness-based well, rounded approach to people. In his small studio facility, he brought in hormone and nutrition specialists, acupuncturists, gut health professionals, and meditative/bodywork providers, along with fitness trainers. This well-rounded environment formed the voice that Sal is often currently lauded for. It was during his time in his wellness studio that he figured out how to solve the hardest and most persistent problems with fitness, health, and wellness. His approach led to long-term success with his clients, and he developed a behavioral-focused approach toward health and fitness. After a decade of running his studio, he met Doug Egge, the current producer of Mind Pump, and shortly after, he met Adam Schafer and Justin Andrews. They quickly hit it off due to their different backgrounds but similar approaches to fitness and health, and they decided to start a fitness and health podcast. Mind Pump was launched and quickly became the number-one fitness and health podcast in the world. Find out more about Sal at https://www.mindpumpmedia.com/ and @mindpumpmedia on social media. In this recovery, there are many miracles. We have the choice to either to embrace the miracles and take part in them, or step around and deny them. As we open our hearts to our recovery and let it guide and teach us, we receive many gifts. We develop compassion for ourselves and others, we create a healthier relationship with our mind, body, and spirit, we free ourselves from the oppression of self-hatred and limited self-perceptions, and most simply, we learn to love ourselves. https://www.laureleeroark.com/Whitney Walker is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in addiction, eating disorders, trauma, and Spirituality.
